Enjoy your new Mac. And don't worry; the new one, when it comes out, won't make yours suddenly keel over from obsolescence. Even base-model iMacs are smooth-running, powerful machines in their own right.

Awesome machine and congratulations.

I'm curious, how do you get 90 days to return it? Normally Apple has a 14 day return policy. I could be wrong?

I second this question - would really like to know. Was this some sort of business deal or is it something to do with the Applecare warranty. 90 days from now puts us in October - considering I don't plan on buying until probably my August paycheck then we're in November and surely the new imacs will be out by then :/

I did a very brief web search for this info. and came up empty but I have indeed heard the same, regarding a 90-day return window if a product is upgraded.

Should I wait?

9to5Mac reports that no new hardware is launching with Mountain Lion next week.

I really want to buy a 27" iMac but I feel like if I do, Apple will launch a new one right after I buy.

Anyone else in this boat?

9to5Mac reports

No, they don't. They speculate, they assume. They write whatever thought appears in their head and post it for the world to see. The particular "no hardware" claim seems to have no basis and wasn't repeated anywhere, including pieces that cited the 9to5 article for proclaiming July 25 to be Mountain Lion Day.

Might as well wait until ML releases and see what the real story is.

My first iMac on order

Hi all - after years and years being on PC I have finally taken the plunge. I bought an iPhone 4 in October 2010 and loved the aesthetics and funcionality and it got me to thinking about other Apple products and finally moving over to their ecosystem. I had been considering the rMBP but was concerned over the apps that are not retina ready that I need to use.

I have always loved the style of the iMac and today I ordered the base model (enough for my usage) and now have a long, long weekend before it arrives. I can't wait to see it proudly sitting on my desk instead of my knackered old PC. No doubt I will be posting and searching more regularly here for hints and tips in the future and I feel now I truly belong on MacRumors ;)

Greetings all,

I've finally reached the end of my deliberations and sealed the deal on a refurbished iMac for $999. Most if not all people on this forum will likely think me foolish for buying days before a "supposed" new release, but truthfully I don't feel there's any characteristic of the expected new model that would be worth an extra 200 bucks - the 2011 model was/is a spectacular machine to begin with. I think the discount in the refurb store is recompense fair enough for its age. And since Apple restores computers so well and I've never seen a refurb that has so much as a single scratch on it, this is a luxury we can take advantage of without compromise. The one thing that was keeping me thinking about the new model is USB 3. But my current external drive doesn't have a 3.0 port either and after paying new price plus a new drive, it would actually be cheaper to go for Thunderbolt storage since of course that interface is already present on the Mac. (I'm thinking Buffalo station) And it's even faster still. If by chance there is something revolutionary next week, I'll be covered by the return policy. But I don't anticipate any "buyer's remorse" because this computer does everything that I need and expect, very well, and most importantly while saving me substantial money. It's only too bad I won't be able to go online to be hip and brag about my higher spec numbers... :p

I'm so happy to finally be a :apple: owner!

My thoughts exactly - no buyer's remorse here - just excited to have my first Apple computer and it suits my needs today - which to me is the crucial point of entry to a new experience - any computer is outdated the minute you buy it - whether the latest version comes days or months later. Enjoy your purchase - I can't wait for mine to arrive and I won't be thinking about any new releases. :)

I wish I could do that but I know I would just feel to bad if one came out 1 month later!

I'm still pretty stoked I pulled the trigger around 2/3 months ago on a beast of an iMac. I may have been pretty bummed about still waiting if I was still holding out for a machine that hasn't even been announced yet, or that may or may not be released anytime soon. Touch wood, iMac still running really well, happy days, woo woo woo.

That said, I really required a machine to work on, my old Core 2 Duo laptop was struggling. For the people that don't really NEED a new iMac, well then, wait as long as you want I suppose! But - soon as you buy it, there'll be other people waiting for the 2013 iMac to come out lol. Computers by and large don't gain value over time like some old furniture or fine wine does. Just the opposite.

My fingers are crossed that Apple releases a new iMac with ML. I'm hoping they finally use a desktop GPU and obviously it will have the faster Ivy Bridge CPU.

If they don't release a new one with ML, I'm buying a 27".

I wish I could say 9to5 pulled that one out of their *****, but I think it's a more educated guess than that. From the amount of correct assumptions and lack of reposted BS rumors on 9to5 lately I kinda feel they have dipped their pen deeper into some apple hole than macrumors or any other sites have managed so far. This week will show us though, but currently nothing seem to indicate otherwise. sadly!

From how it seems we can expect a very boring apple fall, unless ML alone gets you off.

Sorry for the bad sexual references :)

Desktop GPU in an imac = highly unlikely. I think they would rather choose to make it thinner I'm afraid.

My iMac arrived yesterday and I am absolutely loving it - what a great piece of kit. The screen is excellent and I am finding my way about it a pleasure. I must have been living in the dark ages with my dusty old windows laptop. Are there any essential software programs I should download to protect or to ease my usage?

If you're use to Windows, I would say the best advice I can give is that to cut from finder, use Cmd+C to copy Cmd+Alt+V to move. Other than that, just enjoy it.

Just ordered the highend 27" iMac, it's coming tomorrow and yes I'm super excited! Upgraded to 16GB of ram!
