27-inch iMac
3.4GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7
16GB 1600MHz DDR3 SDRAM-2X8GB
3TB Fusion Drive
NVIDIAGeFrc GTX 680MX 2G GDDR5

At what point should I consider this machine 'late'? I know that I have not yet waited nearly as long as others, but I can't see how this machine is going to ship on time. Is this common of apple now? I have never had a delivery from them late. Most of the time they are very early. But this is the first time I've ordered anything from them in a dog's age (2 years).

Went into the Apple Store in Augusta, Ga.

Walked out with:

27" iMac
3.4ghz i7
8GB RAM
1TB Fusion Drive
680MX 2GB

It was the only one they had. Woot. I was literally going to just order and have it shipped, without the Fusion drive. Since they had this one in stock, I got it.

Is that with UPS or FedEx?

Fedex 2 day service (was $30)

Mine was 'processing items' until i got the shipment notification. it was never 'preparing for shipment'.

straight from processing to shipped.

also FYI, Apple will normally pay to make sure they make it in their window for faster shipping if they have to.

over 7 years of ordering stuff through their online store, I've never had anything be delivered beyond their originally estimated date (unless I wasn't home to receive it because it was early)

I'd love to know the company's overall stats on that, but I know they've shipped things overnight to me before without my having paid for it.

Mine should be here on the 28th. I ordered the brand new iMac 27in. Should be perfect for my photography!! Oh and according to the shipment progress, it's actually come from The Netherlands.

There is no better feeling than finally making up my freaking mind on a Mac purchase. I just picked up a 21" iMac from my university's IT store and I couldn't be happier so far. I almost went for the Fusion drive but decided to go with the model they had in stock. I'm sure fusion will be standard or cheaper the next time I upgrade. It's so nice to have my hardware squared away for the next few years.

I will start by saying that I am a Server/Network Admin in a Windows/Cisco environment and haven't touched a Mac up until a month ago! I have to say I am a total Apple fanatic now !!

It all started with an iPad and in the past month I have purchase a new iPad 4, iPhone 5, iPods for the kids and my new pride and joy.. a 27" iMac..

I started with the i5 standard build for $1,999 from the Apple Store and took it back on my last day of the return period and bought the $2,599 model with i7, 1TB fusion drive, gtx680mx 2GB video card...
Just upgraded to 32GB of ram and it runs perfectly!

I am getting more into picture and video editing (mainly our old home movies on vhs and 8mm tape)

I just wanted to post and "show some love" for the Apple forum community!

I am sure I will be posting and asking alot of questions as osX is still very new to me..

Please excuse my typing as I am posting from my phone :)

just ordered this from a local mac prefered supplier

3.4GHz Quad-core Intel Core i7, Turbo Boost up to 3.9GHz
16GB 1600MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 2X8GB ( buying the ram from them for 79.00)
1TB Fusion Drive
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680MX 2GB GDDR5

Should have it Friday - saved 150.00 from the apple store price - they gave me some discounts since my wife has purchased over 20 Ipads from them for her work over the last year.

Yea she has a job that MAKES her go out and purchase Iphones, Ipads and Macs for her work

My story is not unlike may others on here. My interest in apple products started with my iPhone 3s. I have been mulling over buying an iMac for a long time now and always put it off saying that I will just wait for the next spec update and then do it - never happened though. Last night my wife saw my looking at them for the billionth time and said "Go for it!", so I did.

I have been a Windows users since the DOS 4 days and while I can appreciate what MS has done over the years I have become bored of Windows. I have always custom built my PCs and still enjoy that very much and will most likely still keep a Windows box around because I can. Being in IT for 17 years (Mostly Cisco Voice and R/S) I have come to appreciate many things about technology and having choice and I feel the time has come to see what the other side has to offer!

Let the waiting game begin!

I'm a hardware tinkerer as well, the only reason I tinkered is 1) because the WinPC was never optimized and 2) I somewhat liked doing it.

Let me tell you the iMac has changed that. Just about everything that was ever wrong on a PC (and therefore caused me to tinker) has been addressed on the Mac. My 2012 iMac is pretty much what I've always wanted a PC to be. The only thing missing is great sound and I wish they pushed the viewable area (adding pixels) out to the very edges of the screen.... no 1" black surround. Also kinda wished the screen had a step higher ppi, like 150 or something like a Nano.

I sold my iMac and MacBook Pro, flirted with Lenovo for less than 6 months and I've since come rushing back to Mac's like a long lost friend. I bought an iMac with these specifications:

27-inch iMac

Configuration

• 3.4GHz Quad-core Intel Core i7, Turbo Boost up to 3.9GHz
• 8GB 1600MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 2x4GB
• 1TB Serial ATA Drive @ 7200 rpm
• NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680MX 2GB GDDR5
• Magic Trackpad
• Apple Battery Charger
• PAGES 065-C13D NONE
• NUMBERS 065-C13F NONE
• KEYNOTE 065-C13G NONE
• Apple Keyboard with Numeric Keypad (International English) and User Guide (English)
• Accessory Kit

It has since been delivered and I've put all my old AppStore applications back on it. I have to admit it is the most beautiful Mac I've owned; very fast, very reliable, and very cool operating as well (but I guess living in New Zealand doesn't put much stress on the cooling).

Congrats on your new mac purchase! You will like it. If you need a good resource, the missing manual books are great, and they have one that specifically targets Windows users. They are on amazon.

I'd probably take something like that directly to an apple store...

New iMac Owner

Hello folks,

I finally made the jump to an iMac after pondering doing so for many years. I have a 10 year old Windows desktop that is finished. I also installed Windows 8 on my 3 year old laptop, which was the breaking point for me. It slowed down my 3 year old laptop to ridiculous pace. So many other little issues with it, but I won't go into it here. All you need to know is that I am done with Windows. I'll likely install Linux on the laptop in case I need it when travelling...or just sell the damn thing.

I have been eying the Apple refurb store for the past year! Finally made a move when the late 2012 iMac 27 inch went up for sale in the refurb store last week. I have the "base" model 27 inch, but have in the mail another 8 gig of ram (purchased via third party supplier), which will bring me to 16 gig. Good for my photography and multitasking needs. I also grabbed a LeCie 3TB Porsche Design (P'9233) external HD on sale for $150, which I might add, looks pretty slick on my desk next to the iMac!

I am on a bit of a limited budget, but after having the system arrive (and loving it), I am having a bit of regret. I am thinking I should have shelled out the extra cash for a Fusion drive, and possibly a video card upgrade (there were a few more powerful versions of my system in the refurb store when I got this one). I got so excited about seeing the new 27 inch, I just jumped on it without thinking it through. I find if you think too much about a refurb, it will usually disappear. :) I have always built my own Windows based systems from scratch, and not having the ability to open this thing up is already bothering me! I really wish I could pop in an upgraded video card to enhance gaming, and the Fusion drive would have been a sweet addition. I will likely wait a year or so, and try to pick up a 1 TB SSD, and hook it up via Thunderbolt....or once the warranty has expired, I may attempt to crack this thing open myself, and add an internal SSD. I thought about returning and exchanging for an upgrade, but I don't want to go through the hassle of doing so now (unless they would allow me to return to local Apple store), so I'll likely keep it as is. Not that this is a bad thing, it's a sweet sweet machine....I just have Fusion / Video envy, and hankering to take a look at the guts of this system. My inner computer nerd is....well, no longer in hiding. :)

Anyway, just thought I would say hello! This site has been a huge help in providing me with info on how to use this new iMac. My Apple experience (other than iPhone), is next to nothing, so it's a bit of a learning curve, but a fun one. I look forward to doing some more reading/participating in this forum as I slowly become an iMac expert. :)

Also a hardware tinkerer here......as I mentioned in my previous post, I am getting the urge to rip this thing apart a week after getting it. :)

Just noticed you said you were not impressed with the sound. I for one thought the sound from my new iMac was pretty damn impressive. Not much to compare it to though...other than a laptop with horrible speakers, and some decent, but not great, external speakers from my old Windows desktop. I thought about getting some external speakers, but I am for the most part pretty satisfied with these ones for now, and don't want the extra clutter!
