I took the plunge a few days ago and ordered my first new imac, 27", 3.4 i7, gtx 680mx, 8GB ram (will add 2 more 4gb sticks from crucial), 3TB fusion drive, wireless keyboard and trackpad.

It is coming tomorrow, too excited for words, will be a joy to finally get off this awful hp laptop i've been running for the last two years that overheats when playing youtube.

:apple:

Anyone know how long it usually takes for one shipped from Cork, Ireland to reach the UK and be delivered? Mine was shipped today and says estimated delivery is Monday. Any even reasonable chance of it arriving tomorrow?

If you go onto the email they will have sent you to confirm the dispatch you have the ability to track the order, it will take you to this form looking thing with a tracking number, if you then copy and paste this into the ups tracking section on their website it will show where it was last scanned and also when it will be delivered by! Mine was dispatched from Cork yesterday and it will be here tomorrow. If yours was dispatched today i would imagine it will be monday, in that they wont deliver on Saturday and Sunday? :)

I ordered mine this morning... yay! In just 3 hours it's already preparing for shipment. Original delivery estimate is 5/22. Somehow I think it will beat that :)

How annoying, yeah the estimated date says Monday. Weekends are a ball ache, best case scenario, UPS let me pick it up from the depot on Saturday.

My 2nd refurb 21.5 iMac is also having problems with yellow screen, so this time I had decided to order a brand new one in a hope that this time around I get a one with the perfect screen. Unfortunately, due to price difference between new and refurbs, I had to settle for a base i5 2.7 model with 16GB ram and fusion vs my refurb which was i5 2.9. Since I do not care for graphic card (I would be fine even with HD4000), I figured that 200 Mhz CPU difference means nothing in real use, so it was easier for me to justify paying the same money for lesser system.

So I had to cancel the order. They threw up a ton of different refurbs today and one caught my eye. Quickly called and had my order changed, that simple!

Same system except for $120 more I ended up with a 1TB Fusion drive and 16GB of RAM. The RAM wasn't a big deal, the drive alone was worth it compared to a newly configured one with a Fusion drive would cost more than I paid.

I hope I get to experience the same refurb process I've been reading about on here for over a year; a high quality and seemingly new machine.

Well, my first iMac arrived today. Mint condition refurb on the outside, and a surprise on the inside! I was one of those lucky people that received a machine with more upgrades than what was listed and paid for. I got a free 3.4 i7 upgrade in my machine!

Everything is working great right out of the box!!

27" 3.2Ghz Quad-Core Intel Core i5
8GB 1600MHz DDR3 SDRAM-2X4GB
3 TB Fusion Drive
NVIDIAGeFrc GTC 680MX 2G GDDR5
Magic Trackpad (already have a Magic Mouse)
Apple Wired keyboard (already have a wireless keyboard)
Country Kit (whatever that is, didn't cost anything additional)
Apple Care
Ships 2-4 days and supposed to arrive May 14-16. Can't wait.

Received it today, May 10th, about 2:30ish. Setting it up slowly. Have to figure out how to transfer content from iPod touch 4g. Was wondering if its better to transfer songs, etc. that way or just use the hard drive I backed up my old computer with and hook it straight to new one. Any suggestions? Be kind...

I took the hard drive route today when mine arrived. However, Apple provides the following.

Website down for maintenance. But thanks, will check it out later. I did look at Apple's support page and it looks like with Migration Asst. and Time Machine it's just a matter of hooking the hard drive up and a few clicks. May wait a few days though cuz I have a couple more midnight shifts left (work) and don't really have much get up and go.

I have a question about my 1TB Fusion Drive. Does the HDD stop spinning when it's not in use, or is it always on?

It would be nice if it did, so it would be even more quiet with just the SSD running. But maybe the 2,5" HDD isnt as noisy as previous 3,5" HDD.

I tried Migration Asst. The first time it got stuck on 6 hours and 21 minutes and stayed there for roughly 6 hours. I stopped the migration. Thought I'd try a FireWire to thunderbolt cable but nowhere had them (around here, anyway). Hooked up the hard drive which is the back up from the MacBook Air that's not in my possession anymore and really don't know what to do now. When I first got the Air, I hooked the hard drive to it, which was a back up of the MacBook I still have, and transferred everything that way. Any ideas, besides me not being allowed around computers, would be greatly appreciated.

Please carefully read and use Pondini's guide, it can be found at:

I was so incredibly apprehensive when I purchased a refurb Core i7 3.4, 16GB, 1TB Fusion, 680MX spec'd machine. I have not had the best of luck with iMac purchases, the first time round. Yellow tints, faulty WiFi, etc, but I decided to take a chance on the Late 2012 machine.

And my word, am I impressed. It was delivered yesterday, and it is simply PERFECT out of the box. Uniform, beautiful screen with no dead/stuck pixels, or image retention. Extremely quiet drive *am seriously impressed with Fusion*, and just a beast to boot.

I am simply enamored by this new machine! Thank you :apple:!

Just purchased a 27" iMac 3.4ghz i7. Got 8gb ram which I will upgrade to the 32gb when I get some money again! I'm using this soley for Pro Tools and Logic so will also be getting a UAD 2 Quad. That's another four cores for my plugins to run off! Going to be insane!! This is also my first Mac. Can't wait to get to work!

First Mac!

Just picked up my First Mac. After waisting two days of valuable time waiting for delivery I picked it up myself. Now I have to wait over the weekend to fix things if needed or replace the drive with an SSD.

It's just the base model 27" 660 to replace my studio laptop. I just need it for Logic, Cubase and Sim City.

Wish me luck as I'm about to unpack.

Save your money, it's rubbish.

Lol! It's quirky I agree. But too late! Bought the PC version so the Mac will be free when it's released next month:).

Well guys so far so good:). No smudges, yellow screen and most important no dead/stuck pixels so far. First thing I tested. Hope it stays that way...

I was planning on getting the Thunderbolt display next month or so, but this thing is huge! It's been a year since I've seen an Imac 27", it suprised me. Maybe I'll wait for a refresh.

I just ordered the same refurb setup. It will be here Tuesday. I can't wait!
