Me and you sir, should be friends.

That is all.

You guys definitely have the same “me first, everyone else second” mentality...

I still don’t understand how it’s okay for Apple to pay for your joyride because you can’t wait a month! I guess it’s just beyond my comprehension...

Instead of criticizing people for their purchasing habits, it's best to keep your opinions to yourself. I mean how old are you people on these forums? You sound worse than a group of little children deciding who gets the last cookie. It's only a phone. I understand that a phone might be the most important possession in some of your lives, but I would say that it is a nonentity compared to your health and happiness. If he wants to trade his phone in, let him do it, it affects you in no way.

And I vote that someone just closes this thread so people don't have heart attacks and virtual fist fights.

IT'S A PHONE! Get over yourselves. People are dying from hunger in Ethiopia

^^ they made it okay by offering a 30 day, no restocking fee, window.

No, they made it plausible to do by offering it for 30 days. If everybody did this (which by their theory, everybody should), Apple would have to file for bankruptcy. What is Apple supposed to do with these refurbished iPhones? The rest of us (people who don’t do this) are just lucky you guys are in the minority!

how do we know that returning a black iPhone wont block you from being able to buy a white iPhone. I really wanted the white one, but i'm happy with my black one. And people call me racist.

Six iPhones? Family account I gather?

Ours only has 3 and we didn't get a Microcell, I wonder how AT&T is deciding how that works.

I just wanted to let you know Apple has over 30 BILLION in cash. ;)

What does that have to do with anything? He's from Canada, there are no iPhone 4s there period. And thus no one to trade black for white. It doesn't negatively affect him, and he still speaks out about it. That should tell you something.

I just wanted to let you know Apple has over 30 BILLION in cash.

So what, because they're more wealthy than you they should pay for your phone?

lol calm down. I was just saying that Apple would not go bankrupt.

I would think about switching, but I don't have a majority of the problems most black owners have so I don't want to risk getting a worse phone. Along with that, I use screen protectors no matter what, and on both the front and back of the 4, so if I used them on the white I could see dirt collecting along the edges being easily visible on the white one and that would piss me off.

This reminds me about how Costco used to have the most amazing return policy for electronics. Pretty much no questions asked return it, even after an extended time. Enough people abused it that they had to change their policy.

Well in the end the OP knows it's wrong, and everybody doing it with him knows it as well.
But I mean really? The people that complain about it make it sound like the OP is killing 10% of Apple's profits by doing it. Apple is currently richer than Microsoft, and I'm sure it's gonna continue that way for a while. I don't think that 15,000 people doing this will ruin their economy. Besides there is really much worse things going on in this world.

Same thing happened to Walmart. Gamers with an RROD Xbox 360 would buy a new 360, switch it for the broken 360 and then return the broken 360.

Oh yeah, I remember those days! It used to be so easy to return products to Wal-Mart. Now, even with a receipt, it can be a challenge to return anything. And if you throw out your receipt, you're totally screwed now!

I bought a black 32GB iP4, but decided it wasn't for me, and took it back last week. I'll be buying the white one when they're out.

tbh, I think it was pretty smart what the OP did, it's not immoral, or wrong, and Apple won't go bankrupt over it.

He found a loophole, so what, stop flaming him just cause he wanted the latest and greatest gadget and get on with your life, jeez.

I've got 4 on my family plan. Had iPhones since gen 1. I read somewhere that AT&T are offering free microcell to people who live in areas with iffy reception. Me, I live in 5 bar territory. No free microcell for me!

Let's all play nice. I've already been banned twice in 2 weeks. 3-day and 7-day lol.

Trying to avoid a 3rd ;)

Anybody else swapping colors?

Wow, I wonder why. I'd be more concerned with the fact that you clearly never reached the stage of development where you learned delayed gratification.

I couldn't care less about the profit loss (there really isn't any). I'm more annoyed by people like the OP who abuse Apple's EXTREMELY generous return policy, because honest customers are the ones who get screwed in the end. You've heard of Costco's return policy that's good up to a year, no questions asked? Oh right, that's because they canceled it because people kept taking advantage of it.

So basically, yes. I'm glad at least one person here admitted their selfishness.

Of course we're being selfish. When it comes to an almost $3,000 decision on this phone, I better get what I want and I better be happy. I don't care about anyone else but myself at that point and to be honest there really is no one else to care about. I don't care about how it affects you because it won't. So technically everyone is being selfish because their purchase only affects them and not their surroundings.

And btw, the $3k came from 2 years of contract service ~ $100 a month + the phone.

Thanks for inflating the demand of the white iPhone and making future iPhones more expensive, I really appreciate it.

False statement, I'm not "for" people doing this exchange and I see how it can anger some, but your statement is false. You have to understand that Apple typically releases the iPhone in the two colors at the same time (at least from when they released the 3G). So where I'm heading is Apple realized their manufacturing difficulty (or whatever they claim it to be) would make people do this exchange. Now account for the amount of people that will be doing so, some but not so much that it is going to really setback Apple at all. This is what I see to be a special case that shouldn't happen when the next iPhone is released, assuming they don't have this manufacturing defect again with the color of the phone. With that, you can see that it is going to be a limited number of people are going to do this exchange. 3 million people have already bought an iPhone 4 (remember some are even out of the 30 day return period), now how many people do you think will exchange the phone for a white one? Let's say 5% of people- that's a lot more than I expect it to be, but let's say 5%. That would be around 150,000 exchanged iPhones. Keep in mind Apple is not losing these 150,000 phones they are simply getting them back to be used a refurbished units. Now after this whole exchange process is over with and has settled people will go on with their regular buying habits, in which case they can choose white or black upon arriving at the Apple store. So yes, Apple will have to pay for this; However the consumers will not, seeing as how relatively little people will do the exchange. You also need to remember that there are many people out there waiting for the white one simply to be released (people who haven't even bought an iPhone 4 yet). This should not happen again and this will only be applicable for those 5% of people that may return their phone. Hell, I bet that it won't even be close to a 5% exchange rate, but we will see.

You also must realize Apple does set this into the price figure. People do change their minds about what they do and do not like. One day my mom just might think the black iPhone suits her well, and then two weeks later she isn't feeling it and goes and returns it for a white one to make her happy. In this case, it is going to be a larger number of people doing this but Apple does realize that this kind of stuff happens. I think some people really just need to relax.

So, don't worry about seeing an increase of the price of the iPhone. I think we will be just fine.

beamer 8912 and I got into a fun flame-ish war over this a couple weeks ago. This thread isn't going anywhere.

People are going to do it. No matter how many times we, the 'returners', hear it's immoral or how we're cheating the system and we're disloyal customers of Apple, it doesn't matter. We're going to do it. Whether we knew all along we were going to do this, or, as is my case, we just decided that, since we were provided with a faulty phone and were given the opportunity to return it within the first 30 days, why not? We're taking that money and giving it back to Apple. We're also providing them with a replacement phone for those keeping black that have some issue with theirs. It's a cycle. Let it happen. Nothing any of the opposition says will hinder our decisions to return the phone.
