beamer 8912 and I got into a fun flame-ish war over this a couple weeks ago. This thread isn't going anywhere.

People are going to do it. No matter how many times we, the 'returners', hear it's immoral or how we're cheating the system and we're disloyal customers of Apple, it doesn't matter. We're going to do it. Whether we knew all along we were going to do this, or, as is my case, we just decided that, since we were provided with a faulty phone and were given the opportunity to return it within the first 30 days, why not? We're taking that money and giving it back to Apple. We're also providing them with a replacement phone for those keeping black that have some issue with theirs. It's a cycle. Let it happen. Nothing any of the opposition says will hinder our decisions to return the phone.

Yeah, you’re going to keep doing it until they change their return policy. And then the rest of us get screwed. I like the idea that if I’m not satisfied with a product, that I have the ability to return it. I don’t want people to abuse the system so much, that they have to change the system. Wal-Mart and Costco had great return policies that people like you ruined.

Eventually if you guys don’t stop, Apple will change their return policy, and then we’re all screwed out of a great and generous return policy.

Usually. Apparently it's a federal law that cellphones must have a 30-day return window.

I've got 4 on my family plan. Had iPhones since gen 1. I read somewhere that AT&T are offering free microcell to people who live in areas with iffy reception. Me, I live in 5 bar territory. No free microcell for me!

That's probably why, I live in a decent (not 5 bar, but not horrible) coverage area. Oh well!

This isn't Apple's usual return policy. They did it because "people like me" have phones that don't work as phones that they paid $300 for.

seriously? there are people (including me) who have been waiting weeks for the ip4 and your going to return yours for a different color?? Thanks for the further delays!

apple should make it a rule that those who returned their black iphone for a white one have to go to the back of the line until those people who have orders that haven't been fulfilled get their phones! :p

Do we know for sure that Apple isn't going to retroactively charge a restocking fee for people who buy a white iPhone after returning a black one?

Uh oh the moral police are back at it. How are those working phones? Bet you keep hittin refresh and can't wait to receive your free case right? Even though your phone works? God I hate Internet moral police. It's so easy to play captain Jesus over the Internet.

See here's my issue. Most of the so called moral police are more worried about whats in it for them. IE I waited for white and I am entitled to get one. I have news for you. You aren't entitled to ****. Whether or not people waited or bought black. If they want to exchange or return its their right. They are also paying customers. So right or wrong give it up. Who cares. We all know you're only whining about it so you have someone to blame if you cant get one.

im about to return mine and wait for the white one and i dont give a f*#k what anyone says i really dont im just a selfish a hole. oooh and i planned this from day one :)

You shouldn't care. It's your money. Seriously I would wager apple will lose far more money giving away needless cases to people that don't need them then people returning their black phones to get a white one.

Wow, I wonder why. I'd be more concerned with the fact that you clearly never reached the stage of development where you learned delayed gratification.
I do hope that is not a personal attack... believe me, I assure you that is a "ban-able" offense ;)

Also, you do realize this is a forum correct? I would venture to say that over 60% of folks on here are NOTHING what they are like IRL.. myself included. It's a nice little "get-a-way".

That being said, I have no remorse in my actions. I did nothing "legally" or "morally" wrong. I purchased a product, used it for the 30-day period, decided I wasn't as happy with the black as I had hoped, and will be buying a white now.

I knew about 10 days in I didn't like the black, why in the world should I have to return it 10 days in? Why can't I wait the extra 17-20 days? I see no rules stating that. If you feel that way, then you don't understand the way the world works apparently.

If you were walking down the street, and you found a $100 bill on the sidewalk, nobody else around, not a soul. You would walk past it? Are you insane?

FYI.... that is morally wrong... it is not your money. It's generally the same idea here, I didn't hurt anybody by doing what I did. Apple set forth a set of rules, ones they felt are acceptable, and I played by them. I in no way "cheated the system"... I followed it, ot the "T" actually.

Return it if you want. I wouldn't even think twice about it, I didn't.

BACK ON TOPIC.....

I count 3 folks now in the thread as I scanned thru... anybody else?

Huh? I don't even want a white iPhone 4... and if I can't get an iPhone 4 on the 30th, I have nobody to blame but myself for not lining up earlier. I don't feel I'm entitled to anything. It's first come, first serve.

Who cares? I care. You're just sidetracking so that you don't have to discuss why you do what you do. To justify your selfishness, you have to convince yourself that everyone is self centered. Well, I can tell you, there are many people on these forums that agree with me, and would never buy a device knowing that they would return it the last day of return policy.

If I created a new line and the iPhone 4 was the device chosen upon opening that new line, and it is returned, do I lose my number? Or am I just in a state of subsidy limbo in which I am eligible for full upgrade?

Apparently you didn't read my post. Who the hell said I wanted white? You couldn't pay me to carry a white phone around. Enjoying my black one just fine.

Oh and good for them. I care not what others do with their money. That's my point.

Have you seen inception? Just watched it tonight.

Judging by your post, you would highly enjoy the movie ;)

Of course we're being selfish. When it comes to an almost $3,000 decision on this phone, I better get what I want and I better be happy. I don't care about anyone else but myself at that point and to be honest there really is no one else to care about. I don't care about how it affects you because it won't. So technically everyone is being selfish because their purchase only affects them and not their surroundings.

And btw, the $3k came from 2 years of contract service ~ $100 a month + the phone.

You have the right to buy what you want, no arguments. However, when you bought the black, you made your decision. You had full knowledge and ample information (i.e. pictures) of the white iPhone.

If you wanted the white iPhone you should have waited for the white iPhone. Apple has no obligation to feed your selfish needs for a loaner phone "so you can play with it" while waiting.

Correct.

No obligation.

They have chose to do so though on their own free will. I believe that should about wrap it up.

Anybody else swapping?

OK, I'm not here to argue about the ethics of purchasing and returning an iP4...I'm genuinely concerned with returning my iP4 for A DIFFERENT phone...but my question is about the sim cards.

How do I go about keeping the same number if I have an iP4 with a micro-sim? I purchased my phone at an Apple store, which is FAR away from where I am right now...so, I'd have to drive all the way there (almost an hour), return the phone, and then go to an AT&T store for a new sim card? Would they charge me for it? I'd think that wouldn't be fair considering I'm returning the defective phone and it's not my fault that it runs on a micro-sim and 99% of all other phones on their network do not.

How did everyone else who returned their phone get around this? What's the best thing?

Ha, love the spin.THAT'S why they removed restocking fee. Silly me. And I thought it was because of the antenna issue. Oh wait, it was.

Please. Everyone swapping lucked out. Had Apple not removed the restocking fee because of the antenna none of you would be swapping because you'd have to drop an extra $60-70 to do it.

Just keep the micro-sim card. Buy a sim card adapter that you plug the micro sim into. Then, whatever phone you buy, you just put the sim card into it, et voila, you still have your same number!

Hope that helps!

You guys found a loophole, and decided to take advantage of the system. Don't lie, don't butter-coat it. Admit it. You guys just don't realize that as you get away with this stuff, the people who don't end up paying more. I'm not saying that the iPhone prices will go up, but for example, maybe bumpers would have only been $25, but now they're $30 to make up the difference.

It's just an example, but Apple has to make up the money somewhere.
