The RAM is going to be expensive anywhere you buy it...
the DDR3 pricing (at least with the 15" model) was very competitive when it came out.

How long does it normally take before the pricing drops? I just don't see any justice to spend 1k on ram.

RAM prices fluctuate every day. Today it could cost $1200 tomorrow it could cost $1150 then it could go up again to $1200,

The main problem with the current RAM is:
1. Its Laptop RAM and Laptops dont usually have 4GB Dimms.
2. This is DDR3 Laptop RAM which is still quite uncommon.
3. Its quite fast DDR3 Laptop RAM (Considering).

So with all these factors I think your be looking at $800-$900 in 6 to 8 months from today for 4GB Sticks of the same spec RAM that Apple is using in the Notebook.
 
Mine is stock. Just ordered today the 11th shipping to Eastern US and it's due to arrive on the 16th of Feb. :D So psyched.

Where is everyone getting 8gb 2x4gb ddr3 ram? I checked on newegg, and couldn't find anything. Links appreciated

Can anyone confirm the shipping time for the 15 inch UMBP when it was first released, did it come before time!!!!.....mine says 11/02/2009, and i leave for a 2 month holiday on the 12th morning
 
Just wondering - has anyone heard of when these models are heading instore?

I'd like to see the matte option before I make my final decision... Did they remove the glass or place a matte treatment on it? From the conversation I had online with the Apple store helper, she mentioned the glass wasn't gone, just coated with a matte treatment of somekind...

The bezel itself got a replacement, someone had posted pictures of the Matte option somewhere. I don't know if you'll see a Matte in the stores or not but it may happen. Worse case you could get a glossy and get a matte treatment on it.

This is the way I thought of it..if you get the matte and don't like it you're out of luck but if you get the glossy and it gets to be too much you can put either a anti-glare cover over it or have it treated.
 
Does anyone know if changing something on your order will effect the shipping date? I'm not sure if I want to upgrade the HD or not so I might make that change but not if it's going to delay it even longer.

Still waiting for a decent anti-glare cover to appear in the UK however. God knows how long that'll take. Powersupport have only just got a film set for the 15" model, no idea how good that is. And there's no chance of treatment in the UK that I know of. Gloss is just a no-go for my line of work atm.

I think you get bumped to the back of the line, especially if you're customizing the laptop.

That's over 5 weeks wait.. /sigh

Yes it does. I ordered when the store came up after the keynote. I made a change today (CPU to 2.93) and went from a 4 Feb ship to a 10 Feb ship. While it stinks that I will wait an extra 6 days for this machine it is really a trivial amount of time in the grand scheme of things.

So if you order 2.93, shipping date will be later
and if you are getting the version with some weird keyboard layout (like my Thai keyboard) it will be pushed even later!

Mine is probably later than anyone here right now: shipping date 18 Feb.

Mine is 20TH. Becasue i have got the Matte screen

I ordered the 2.93GHz, 4GB, 320GB 7200rpm with remote and matte display and Danish keyboard.
This is a replacement from the earlier 17" topmodel with 2.6GHz, 4GB, 320GB 7200rpm with glossy display that i returned the day right after MWSF.

My status shows:
Estimated Shipping: 05 Feb, 2009
Estimated Delivery: 11 Feb, 2009

I guess it is shipped from Ireland :rolleyes:

You're either all incredibly rich or incredibly foolish to be able to spend $2800 of a laptop.

I'm guessing rich. :D
