Wow...

You're either all incredibly rich or incredibly foolish to be able to spend $2800 of a laptop.

I'm guessing rich. :D

Do you call carpenters rich or foolish for purchasing top of the line tools when the same $2 hammer will do the job? Do you call race car drivers rich or foolish for purchasing the best car to win the race when a Kia is the same thing(car)? Do you call a doctor rich or foolish for using the best equipment and instruments when a knife and thread would do the same thing? What about a chef that using $300 knifes when Walmart sells them for $2?

I don't know about everyone else but this computer is my livelihood, the faster and more efficiently I can work on it the more money I make. I use my current computer around 16 hours a day almost non-stop so purchasing the laptop with the best screen, longest battery(if I need it) and fastest internals is a must for me. :p

He's got a point though...
I would be more cautious to pay for a "Rev. A" with my own money

Well your comparision is a little flawed... You have to compare the same "class" if your going to do it in that way.

A "race car" and a kia not in the same league.... a better comparision would be why would someone want a $250000 ferrari, when a $80,000 GTR is just as fast??

A doctor doesnt buy his own equipment... and thats life or death so you cant put a price on that....

The knife comparision may be more valid... but again comparing the same class or configuration would need to be done...

So are you saying that it takes a $2800-$5000 laptop to do your work that a $1500-$2500 of the same/similar specs couldnt do?? Thats the question....

I ordered the 2.93GHz, 4GB, 320GB 7200rpm with remote and matte display and Danish keyboard.
This is a replacement from the earlier 17" topmodel with 2.6GHz, 4GB, 320GB 7200rpm with glossy display that i returned the day right after MWSF.

My status shows:
Estimated Shipping: 05 Feb, 2009
Estimated Delivery: 11 Feb, 2009

I guess it is shipped from Ireland

Now my order has been cancelled by Apple! I guess it was because of their mistake in getting me a glossy instead of matte display...

Yeah that's my luck in life :(

The day after the new MBP was announced I phone Apple to make an exchange order - I just got the previous MBP late 2008 and haven't unpacked it yet due to the rumors of the upcomming MBP.

The unopened MBP was picked up 24 hours later...

I was supposed to wait three weeks for the new one...

One week before the announced shipping date the online order status change to what i actually wanted except the glossy screen should be matte as i ordered...

I phone Apple to get it right...

Now this delay for their typo mistake in the first place - thanks :apple:!

I wonder if this would had happened if i just had made an ordinary order online with no student phoner involved....

Wow, indeed...

I really take exception to this comment. It's not about being rich, some of us use this as our primary means of making money. Would you tell a construction worker he's rich or foolish for buying a good set of tools?

I'm not rich, privileged or foolish -- I just want the best tools for my job.

Lets take the example that you've already accepted is a fair comparison, the knives. There's nothing that a $500 knife will do that a $100 will not do. It's a matter of quality and pleasure of use. If you're not a chef then you're not going to see $400 worth of difference, if you are, you probably will.

It's very very unlikely that the matte option will be available in store.

Do you really think so? Apple has traditionally offered both versions. Considering the popularity of the option I would think they would offer both. Maybe not initially, but eventually. I guess we'll see.

The Apple Store doesn't carry custom configs and no stock MBP config comes with the matte display, besides that Apple seems to have a massive hardon for glossy displays (admittedly they do look slicker in the store than matte).
