Same here. I just transferred all my stuff back to my 12 Mini from the 14 Pro. Way to big and heavy for me. Will be returning it tomorrow or Monday.
As soon as I get a good deal on it or the 12 Mini battery dies I will upgrade to the 13 Mini and keep using that as long as possible.
Love all the features of the 14 Pro, but I agree with you. The 14 Pro is very heavy, I picked up my 12 mini again from being in my desk the last week. Felt like a feather. It‘s perfect. I’m going to miss some 14 Pro features, but I’ve been missing the 12 mini form factor more. The fact that I feel this way dropping $1000+ on a new phone and missing the old one means I should probably just return the new one And get my money back.

I’m going on one more trip with it today, really going to test out the camera on it. I have a standalone DSLR, but don’t always want to take it out with me. That’s my main reason in keeping the 14 Pro.

My dream iPhone is that camera system on the mini, maybe give it an extra hour or so of battery too.

I have a battery replacement scheduled at the Apple Store for my 12 mini, I guess I’ll figure out today if I’m canceling it or not.

UPDATE: DAY 4 with the iPhone 14 Pro Max. Screen is great. Camera is great. It’s fast. HATE the design. I passed by a Samsung store and looked at their phones and they are without question ahead of Apple on design. The rounded corners, thinness and tiny pill trump this Gordon Gecko phone I’m holding.

The 14 PM is just a tired and old design. Apple is no longer a leader in design and is just riding on the coat-tails of yesterday.
With respect, I’m surprised that someone would debate an iPhone purchase to this extent. In the end you’ll keep or return the iPhone. All of the ruminating on this isn’t going to change the iPhone design.
I would have thought that 20+ pages of responses would have helped you.

If the iPhone design doesn’t please you just go buy the phone that does. I hope you find a good one that meets your needs!

14 Pro above and 11 Pro below - lighting on the open door is brighter that’s my deduction for my decision.

I’m curious, since you dislike DI, where is the placement of the URL bar in Safari on your iPhone?
You are correct sir. URL bar is at the bottom.

Anyone return the 14 pro for a 14 non-pro because of the atrocious camera bump that makes it impossible to lie flat and use it on a table even with the Apple case on?

i've seen quite a few ebay listings for the pro's... people are flogging like crazy. not many PM's though. Some auctions have surpassed the RRP surprisingly

btw can somebody tell me why ppl hide the serial number bc i saw a posting on there without the blurred barcode?

A couple things. What do you mean by flogging in this context. What’s the RRP. And lastly they’re hiding the serial number because there’s possibly a level of dishonesty associated with what they’re selling

flogging = selling. I saw around 20 listings for the pro's.

For the PM, I see one auction, ending in 20 minutes, currently on a bid for 1400.

Possibly yes

Meanwhile a big plus for me getting my 13 Pro from the 11 Pro Max was the flat sides. I HATE rounded edges. It’s uncomfortable to hold for me and makes them slippery as a bar of soap. I have wanted the flat sides back for years.

And I’ve also wanted a deep, dark purple iPhone for years which is the only reason I upgraded this year and passed down my 13 Pro to the hubby.

If the next iPhone goes back to rounded sides, I don’t care how much they change the rest of it and make it do everything but serve breakfast in bed, I’d have to think hard about going back to rounded sides.

Iphone 14 Pro is going back due to the usual eye strain and debilitating migraine issues I associate with PWM on OLED. 😞 5th year of this.....

And it most certainly is not because I cannot afford it. For 5 years I've been unable to upgrade so I have a large fund waiting to be spent with Apple for a suite of their products but they insist on using PWM at low frequencies + dithering on their displays which for some, like myself, cannot use.

I'm also in this camp. I can not look at those new screens for more than a few seconds.
Today everything is about brightness, contrast ratio, and being able to see the screen in the sun, seems to be about all they care about.
This is brutal on my eyes and I simply can't do it. Same with the iPads.
At the same time I can look at my old computer LCD screen (HP LP3065c) all day without problems.

I returned my pro and got a regular 14 instead. I know I'll miss the telephoto lens, but the 14 just feels much better in the hand. The Pro isn't just heavier--the weight seems unevenly distributed so it feels very bottom-heavy whereas the 14 feels more balanced. And yeah, the Dynamic Island, while cool, just means there's less usable screen space than before. So for me the 14P is just a poor design. I went from a 12 mini though, so I can't really compare it to a 13P.

I’m tempted to return my 14 Pro. Coming from the 12 mini, it’s just too heavy. It’s causing my hands to cramp up far too often, at a certain point, it’s just very uncomfortable to use. Lots of cool features. Other than the camera, I’m not really using it for anything my 12 mini couldn’t do.

Still deciding if I want to return it, then trade my 12 mini in for the 13 mini, or just get a refreshed battery in my 12 mini.
I found the 14 to be a pretty good compromise coming from the mini, but I was frustrated with the mini's battery life and typing on the smaller screen (I guess I never spent that much time typing on the older, smaller iphones, as this never seemed to bother me before). So I went for the 14P but it really was uncomfortable to hold. The 14 is lighter and just feels more balanced.

I am trying out the Pro Max now because of the Amazing battery life. Last year the 13 Pro Max was unbelievably awesome. I am not sold on the 14 Pro Max so far to be honest. Still not sure if I should keep it or return it. I have got the normal Pro as well still in the box.

It looks like the iPhone 14 Pro Max is losing battery faster than the iPhone 13 Pro Max at present with the same setup by at least 5%. It feels like that Always On Display is defo impacting the battery life. Not sure how much of a headache this is going to be for me.

I'm just worried that this AOD is not going to help things. With the amazing battery life of these things, something Apple has slowly, and carefully worked out, do we really need this? Is it a gimmick for sales?

This forum will be interesting as reviews come in, over time.
AOD was nice, I guess, but not especially useful for anyhting, esp if you have a watch. even fi you don't, all it takes to turn on the screen in regular iphone is a tap, so the circumstances where you would be unable to look at your watch or give your phone a tiny tap are pretty infrequent.

Well i activated my 128gb new 14 pro max yesterday morning. Immediately knew not much of a change from my 13 pro max.

But I went ahead to Apple Store and traded in my 128gb 13 pro max for $720 plus sales taxes ($50). So $770

I will keep the 14 pro max.

And next year do the same (trade in to apple)

I will buy the lowest gb model and effectively treat it as a $33/month rental. That’s the cost to upgrade yearly (assuming trade in prices remain stable).
Woah

In Europe you have to Pay much more for the phone and with trade in you even get less.

You will only get 615€ for an iPhone 13 Pro 256gb.

So the gap is getting bigger. Stupid!

Bingo. This happens with literally every Apple release. Folks who couldn't bear the thought of showing up to their local Starbucks without the latest Apple device in hand, now desperately seeking co-signs/reassurance from strangers to justify their poor decisions.

A lot of issues (weight, dimensions, pill size) being discussed in here were quite literally public knowledge prior to the phone's release. A simple trip to the Apple store PRIOR to buying the device would've alleviated most of the other things. You could've held the display model for 5 minutes & realized you didn't like the weight, or that the Island extends like 1 or 2mm farther down the screen than the notch did, or that the camera bump is what it is.

At the end of the day, this thread is essentially A.A. for Oniomaniacs, who probably need a lock placed on their credit cards.
There's no need to be a condescending *****. I read all the reviews and played with the various phones in the Apple store before ordering. I was coming from a 12mini, so the entire 14 line presented a substantial upgrade, esp the pro. And I really wanted the better cameras for close up shots of flowers in my garden. But playing around with the pro in store for a couple of minutes didn't prepare me for what the phone would feel like with sustained use. It grew uncomfortable and even painful pretty quickly. I am on the petite side, and have even smaller hands, so obv everyone's use case is different and some love the feel of the pros. I ended up switching to the 14, which feels much better in my hand and much more balanced--the pro feels weirdly bottom heavy. Plenty of people have perfectly legitimate reasons for returning their phones, and for most, a couple minutes in a store is not a good substitute for days of real world use.

I got caught up in the usual hype for the new iPhones.

I’ll be be returning both 14 Pro and Pro Max phones and sticking with my 13 Mini.

I just couldn’t justify spending a ton of money at this point in time for an upgrade to the Pros especially since I won’t be traveling for awhile.

This will be my first ever Apple return. My wallet is spared this time around. And it feels good.

At least you're able to openly admit it. That should actually just be the thread title.

Not to mention the phones aren’t out in stores until release day, and if you wait until after getting to a store to see them to order, you could have to wait quite a while to get your phone.

I’m just ready for the notch/island days to be a thing of the past. This has kept me from buying the flagship devices for what seems like forever. I’m just glad that Apple offers the SE line for the minority like myself. It keeps me on Apple and away from Android.

Both the Notch and Island are way, WAY better than massive bezels, IMO.
