Apple did hold an event at their campus when they introduced the white iBook in 01 but they were much smaller back then and didn't attract the amount of attention they do now. They will only hold an event if the new MacBook is truly unique and deserves press else they would just release it on the website as they did with the MacBook.

Possible invite slogans...

"About as subtle as a flying brick"

"There's something in the Brick"

Any other suggestions? I'm posting the best ones on my blog once the invite is released.

You're really going to look like a fool if invites aren't sent out today. Bold statements without backing are exactly that: bold statements.

Believe me though, I hope just as much as the next guy that you're right.

But... they went iBook>MacBook 5 years AFTER the iPod?

yes but when did the ipod REALLY take off? at what point did you see EVERYONE carring an ipod? in my opinion thats when apple really took off. 2005-2006. back then too apple was all about their music and not so much their computers. dont get me wrong it was still awesome, but they were pushing the ipod. there was no reason for a huge laptop release. now on the other hand everyone has an ipod and the age where kids have laptops is only getting younger. therefore it shows more the reason they would have a huge event to introduce their now more portable macbooks aimed at the entry level students and base consumers now instead of then.

just my opinion.

It is possible for them to be released without an event. The first Macbooks were.

still no word...

yeah, this is making me worry lol

i mean, its only 9:30 on the west coast...so maybe steve needs to wake up still :D

its still hard to say whether there will be an event or not...but then again, there WAS an event for the iPod refresh...so i would think that the Macbooks would get the same attention...

why? Apple is an iPod making company that just also happens to make computers.

I bet we wont see an event.

thats true...but then again look at the iPod refresh a month ago, that wasnt a HUGE update, but yet they had a whole event for it...

i would think the new Macbooks would get the same attention, if not more...

Maybe, the ipods are a large area of their company however. I know lots of people with iPods, but only a few with Macs.

Heres to hoping we'll get new macbooks!

I'm not holding my breath for any type of "event". What other manufacturer hosts a keynote for a notebook update and/or redesign?
Why should Apple be any different?

Bear in mind that the October 14th date is just a rumor to begin with. There is no guarantee that anything is coming on that date.
We all just hope there is.

I understand... I'm starting to get worried now though! (time is ticking)

Apple has sent out invites to their events the Tuesday before the event consistently for the past 5+ events. If there is no invite today, there is no event, which would break the predictions of all the sites (Apple Insider, Daring Fireball, etc.), not just mine. If no event this week, I think we can bank on an event the next week, so the 21st, resulting in an invite the 14th.

Let's just hope they slept in a little today... ;)

If what that guy says (invites at noon west coast time) that means we have about two hours left to wait. If something gets reported I'll probably run out of this Chemistry lecture screaming like a little girl.

Then when the invite doesn't come on the 14th, it will be on the 21st, then the 28th, then........ One day they will guess right and claim they knew all along and they are insiders. Anyone can create a message board or blog and make it appear legit.

There's someone being quite strong on the comments at macsoda saying there's nothing happening today, and no event on the 14th.

Who is that guy and what does he know that we don't?
