I agree. If they had an event for the new iPod nanos then why wouldn't they do the same for the new MB and MBP? This update is huge!

it is huge for us. apple may not view it that way. they are funny like that. and apple always holds sept. events for ipods, no matter how tedious they have become.

good question. i had expected a press invite to a special event by now. i thought they were usually sent out 2-3 weeks before the event.

and given what big announcement they made for the ipod nano release i would have expected a similar announcment for a redesign of their entire notebook line.

that could mean it's either a small update and no redesign or the release is not in october.

maybe with the economy going down the toilet they want to wait for a better release date when the dust has settled over wall street......

Are the press event emails sent out at a specific time?

Hmm not bad. What are the MacSoda's declarations based on ? This is my 1st question of this post. I mean it's bit strange that they 1st say that there WILL be some invitations and then that there WON'T be any.

There will be some invitations based on hope and speculation
There won't be invitations based on logic and common sense

Yeah.. Even though he may be right, he seems to jump to fast conclusions. First definitely then suddenly the opposite.

Edit: haha! the Macsoda guy now've removed the post..

If there's no invites by 8PM (the latest they've ever been reported online), then I'm assuming there will be a silent update on the 14th.

MacSoda is an not a reliable source. I don't know who their source is, but their predictions are just as good as ours. [/rant]

Anyway, it may actually not be the 14th now.

It is all based on the assumption that the date of October 14 from Daring Fireball is/was correct. All of the other blogs got the date from this one place and consistently repeated it. I have not seen anyone else independently verify it.

If that is the case then they shouldn't of worded it like it was their inside info.. They should of linked the Daring Fireball article referencing it. Now they will blame them because the info was most likely wrong, but they certainly wouldn't of given them credit if the info was right. They would claim credit themselves if the prediction came true. It takes a few minutes to create a pretty blog and make it look/sound legit.

he didnt retract his post, he just added something to the earlier post scroll down his page to see what I am talking about. still think we have all day to see and then if not it will most likely be silent, which is fine by me just makes it more exciting!! I cant buy one anyways my student loans are taking forever!!

"Today is October 7th: the day Apple is going to invite the media to the brick event. Post what you guys think Apple will write on the invite in the comments… I’ll post whoever gets the closest with the actual invite once its released.

UPDATE: My speculation was wrong… no invite, which probably means no event. Unless Apple releases it later tonight or tomorrow, we’re all gonna have to wait.

Or Apple won't have an event and roll it out silently.

The thing with the MBand MBP is that there is unlikely to be anything to demonstrate. Yes, they may well be pretty, but that's not really enough for a presentation - the message will get across perfectly well, if not better, with high quality website/press release images. What would happen at the demo - "Here's the new MB and MBP - see how pretty they are! They are still made the same way as before because that lasers and solid metal business is, frankly, prepostorous. Instead, most of the ports are on the power adapter so that its kind of like a docking station. Any questions?". 2 minutes tops?

While the Let's Rock event was pretty light on ground-breaking hardware, it had software, particularly the new Genius feature, which really needed SJ to show it off and convince everyone it was a big deal. It wouldn't have worked to have released iTunes 8 without a demo.

well said sir!!

Possible invite slogans...

"About as subtle as a flying brick"

"There's something in the Brick"

Any other suggestions? I'm posting the best ones on my blog once the invite is released.

I understand... I'm starting to get worried now though! (time is ticking)

Apple has sent out invites to their events the Tuesday before the event consistently for the past 5+ events. If there is no invite today, there is no event, which would break the predictions of all the sites (Apple Insider, Daring Fireball, etc.), not just mine. If no event this week, I think we can bank on an event the next week, so the 21st, resulting in an invite the 14th.

Let's just hope they slept in a little today... ;)

Retracted. See here.

There will be an event though... no doubt about it. This just means we're gonna have to wait an extra week or two.

I'd suggest you to change your tone. Saying something is certain might possibly make you seem more informed in the future if it proves correct, but it's a gamble. One you just took and now realize it might not have been this good an idea after all, even though you still have a slim chance of getting away with it.

I really mean it: don't say that you have your sources unless you really have them. If you relate others' rumors, link them and report they're saying it, like other sites do. Even if you're sure about something, don't put it like that. There's always a chance you're wrong. It's only fair to your readers to admit it.

I don't mean to insult or accuse you, but right now it seems like you were just hungry for popularity. And so you took what you thought were pretty sure predictions as facts. Tried to sound just like those seriously treated bloggers - especially Seth Weintraub it seems, with "I know more but I can't tell" suggestion, also informed sounding "our sources" all sites like to boast about. It might even work for a while, with many people who are willing to believe a site with no history of either credibility or lack of it, but it won't be long until they realize your information isn't reliable. It'll only hurt you in the end, giving you a bad opinion.

That's all it is as a MacRumors junkie! Christmas Eve every day of the year! We all just like to imagine that there's something coming.

It helps ease the tension.

You mean gingerbread and unpacking your gifts all the time? That's great ;).

8 PM PST makes it 5 AM here... I think I'll just get up tomorrow five minutes earlier and check. Even if it isn't likely ;).

I'm going to be disappointed if there isn't an event announced.

I DO wonder though, if maybe Apple has a NDA with its event annoucement. I'm not sure what purpose that would serve though, as I would imagine Apple would want us tunning in.

That'd be really evil of them... I almost wish they did it

The supposed October 14th event is probably another sham. Also as for NDA'ing an invite? That's just crap. If they sent like 5 invites sure, but otherwise it won't work.

Besides that isn't sending out invites to an event supposed to attract attention to an event and not only let the press know, but all those who would care about it know?
