The girl didn't show up when she said she was going to and I wasn't about to turn down other offers. I actually tried calling her but she didn't answer. She was about 1 hr late. While I'm waiting for her I have all these other people contact me. If she showed up when she said she was going to, then I would have sold it to her. The reason why I insist on people meeting near me, is because in the past I have had several people not show up when they said they were buying something from me and that is when I was traveling to them.

You live in NYC and you are surprised when someone is late? WTF dude, you clearly are greedy and care nothing about being a good seller. An hour late is pretty typical and you should have just expected that to be honest. I would never buy anything from you and I hope nobody else tries to either, they clearly dealing with someone who cares about nothing but making a quick buck.

Wow, you gave her sh** after you dishonored the original agreement? Can you get any worse? How about yell at her parents for not providing enough money for her??

Yet you come on here and complain about the Asian gang buying and reselling. You are even worse than them. I'm pretty sure at least when they say a price, they won't change it again just to ******* the buyer over.

IMO, you screwed someone over for 50$. That just shows how low you are.

How long am I supposed to wait before going to the next person? As I said she was an hour late from when she said she was going to pick it up? If she came when she originally said she was, then I would have sold it to her. She bears some responsibility for it also. When I had other people contact me she didn't answer my calls.

The OP mentioned that it was a cute girl and now everyone's coming down on him ha. You've angered all the nice guys aka guys who frequent computer forums.

It doesn't matter if it was a guy or a girl, it's the principle of the matter. He is being a bad seller and not sticking to the offer he gave.

This isn't exactly the worst crime in NY history, or a crime at all.. but I'll tell you one thing.. if I did this I wouldn't be posting it on a public forum, heh.

This place cracks me up. You defend the resellers cause it's "free enterprise" their totally within their rights but then you crucify a seller for upping the price. Why isn't it still free enterprise!? Where are the "she should of got there earlier on Friday if she wanted one" comments?! Hypocrits.

Heh, this post cracks me up. An agreed upon price is completely different, that has nothing to do with free enterprise its just common courtesy. And the forum isnt a collective, is it the same people defending resellers?

You're a piece of work

I would have done the exact same thing the OP did.. If the people want one so badly, they should expect to pay up or wait in line like the rest of us.. and if someone is willing to go through all the trouble of waiting in line for one, they should be able to make whatever profit they want if people are dying over them. No one is forcing a struggling student to have an ipad.. why must she have it, cause its a hot tech toy? there's more important things to be worrying about. Quite honestly anyone that pays a cent over apples price is a fool... you aren't going to die if you dont have one this second. Only people I can see doing it are business people who have too much money on their hands and could use one for their job.

Lay off the OP. Who cares what he did in his transactions. This is not MacEthics.com.

The info he provided on how crazy the NYC market is provides useful info on what's keeping the rest of us from being able to get an iPad. That was the relevant portion of the the post.

Take your moralizing off to church. I'm sure you all do some less than nice things from time to time. Throw you stones on some other board.

You agreed for $750 and suddenly raising the price... such a bad seller, breaking the agreement. You should be paying her money for wasting her time and breaking the agreement you had with her.

What if you were the buyer? You would be crying also if you had an agreement with the seller but suddenly bumping up the price due to other offers.

Aren't you doing the same thing?

That he pointed out that she was a "cute Asian girl" is what initially made him come off poorly.

There are so many classy people on Macrumors.

Your word is supposed to mean something.

Damn the OP is getting torched in this thread! Oh well, he deserves it. This story would have been 10 times better if the girl slapped the **** out of the dude.

What if you were the buyer? You would be crying also if you had an agreement with the seller but suddenly bumping up the price due to other offers.

If I was the buyer I would have done the following:

1). Showed up on time after nickel and diming the seller to get a real good deal.

2). I probably would have paid the $800 since all other comparable listings for iPads were $850-$900.

3). Honored my word when I told the seller at initial contact that "the only reason I couldn't pay more is because I don't have time to go to the bank. ". The bank was only 1 block away and when the offer was made to go there then she suddenly didn't have the money.

original poster should go hangout with the guy who ripped off bestbuy by giving them only $230 for his iPad. They could share scam stories.

I just can't believe what is going on with iPads in NYC. Everyone is probably aware of the Asian gangs buying up all the iPads from Apple stores in the city. Now the market seems to be heating up on craigslist. On launch day I bought a 32gb 3G from an AT&T store. The store only had 8 units but they took my name and I only needed to wait 30 minutes. I planned to keep it but when I paid for the unit a guy in the store immediately offered to buy my iPad. After discussions we agreed on $1,000. The best ROI I have ever had on an investment.

On Saturday I went to the 5th Ave store in late afternoon and for some reason they still had some Wifi and Verizon models. I picked up a 32gb Wifi model thinking my dad would want it. Unfortunately he didn't. Before returning it, I listed it on CL for $750 just to see what I could get. No hits until today when I had about 6 people contact me and bidding up the price. I sold it for $800. The funny thing is a cute Asian girl wanted to buy it for $750 and I originally agreed but then received 3 offers at $800. She was already on her way to my place and I met her on the street. When I told her it would cost her $800 she just started crying right there on the sidewalk. This whole thing is crazy.

If I was the buyer I would have done the following:

1). Showed up on time after nickel and diming the seller to get a real good deal.

You advertised it for $750 and she agreed. There was no settling for $750 on your part. She didn't negotiate down to that price.

2). I probably would have paid the $800 since all other comparable listings for iPads were $850-$900.

"Probably" being the key word here. You don't know what you would have done.

3). Honored my word when I told the seller at initial contact that "the only reason I couldn't pay more is because I don't have time to go to the bank. ". The bank was only 1 block away and when the offer was made to go there then she suddenly didn't have the money.

You just tried to raise the selling price after you agreed to sell it for $750, then you expect everyone to believe that you'd honor your word. Somehow I can't even fathom that being true.

Honestly, I think the whole story is a fib, as you keep adding more and more to it.

if i was the buyer, i would have kicked you in the nuts and mugged you.

JUST KIDDING!

But seriously, that girl knows where you live now right? What if she brings her NFL player boyfriend to look for you again?:cool::cool:

I would have knocked you out if you changed the price on me.

If Chuck Norris would have showed up, you wouldn't have changed the price on him.

"You know, I got some offers for $800 but since I already agreed to you, here's your brand spankin' new iPad. Hey, we should exchange email addresses to test out the FaceTime!"

In.

Word. Very short sighted...or maybe not the op's bag.

So...what I gathered from your rant is that you're complaining about scalpers while doing the same thing by reselling the iPad and being a giant douche in the process.
