This place cracks me up. You defend the resellers cause it's "free enterprise" their totally within their rights but then you crucify a seller for upping the price. Why isn't it still free enterprise!?

Sure the seller can do anything he wants, but free enterprise or not, raising the price on someone who has already left their house based and are on the way to meet you is just plain obnoxious.

Money's money. If I'm selling an iPad to the hottest asian girl ever and she's in front of me about to hand me $750 bucks, then some ugly guy sees her and put $7,500 in my face I'm going to take the $7,500 instead.

that's a 900% difference. that's just ridiculous to me b/c if i got $7500 from an ugly guy, i'd turn around and buy an ipad2 from another reseller and STILL sell it to the cute girl for $750. i would still be making an absurd profit

but in this instance, we're talking bout $50. agreed upon AND ACTUALLY MET UP and then changed the price. what a scumbag

Who knows what the truth really is.

Hypothetically, if she really was an hour late and not answering phone calls amidst the OP being showered with $800 offers, I agree with the seller although its best to state these types of things as disclaimers (like offer is not good past x o'clock) to be upfront.

1. OP Complains about hoards of asians buying iPads for reselling.
2. Decides to resell his iPad at a premium on craigslist.
Now becomes part of the problem, scalping
3. Agrees to sell at price of $750 with a 'cute' asian girl.
In law, that entering a contract.
4. Later receives higher offers after entering the contract to sell for $750.
5. Breaks contract by raising price to $800.
6. Post on macrumors,
7. Many people point out ethical and logical flaw
8. OP isn't remorseful, and continues to defend his deeds.
Claims unable to reach her on the phone and she's running late.
If you're a New Yorker, you should know there is no cellphone coverage
in the subway. So, if there is a train delay, you have no way to letting
other people know until you get out of the system.
10. OP is full of hypocrisy, and full of pride.

I feel sorry for the OP for lacking a moral compass.

I said $7500 because apparently $50 is not much to you guys. Maybe $50 is a lot to the OP. $50 is like a month's earnings to 3rd world country or two less drinks at a bar to this "struggling" college student. If what he did was so wrong, she can certainly take him to small claims.

Jeez, you pay $25 for a drink!? You're getting conned! As for the third world thing...way to go off point!

No one is saying that what he did was illegal, just that it wasn't a very nice thing to do. I agree with them.

No i'm cheap and go the $10/beer route, but cocktails can easily hit $20+ midtown unfortunately. It's an expensive city, but thought London was the same.

I don't think I was off point, I just think that a lot of people think $50 is easy to give up, but it's a lot of money. I don't blame the OP, there was no contract.

The funny thing is a cute Asian girl wanted to buy it for $750 and I originally agreed but then received 3 offers at $800. She was already on her way to my place and I met her on the street. When I told her it would cost her $800 she just started crying right there on the sidewalk. This whole thing is crazy.

Seems a bit of a d!ck move

In truth, to be fair, a time restraint on the agreement should have been given don't you think?

Just be glad you didn't bring me down to meet you then try to up the price.

Thats pathetic what you did, karma is a bitch.

If he has the money to buy ipads, then $50 is nothing to him and he is a scumbag.

Wowzers. That's an expensive beer! Most I paid for a cocktail in a posh London bar is £7. Fair enough though, bad assumption on my part!

I agree, $50 is a lot of money whatever way you look at it.

Sure, there was no lawful contract, just a verbal agreement. I'd have been rather pissed off if he did that to me. I'd already be paying retail+whatever he'd demanded. Not to mention he'd already sold an iPad for $1000. Seems to me he'd gotten a little greedy.

It's extremely difficult to secure an iPad 2 right now in NYC but the OP just so happened to find a couple wifi models laying around at the 5th Avenue store? Please, I doubt any wifi models are just sitting there at Apple's flagship North American store. Sounds like you're just reselling iPad's like everyone else but made up some story to make it look like you decided to resell on a whim. There is nothing wrong with reselling but some people do not like to admit to buying an iPad for that reason.

Seriously OP?
The just of your post is you hate scalpers and then you tell two stories where you're doing the same thing? And the second one you go back on an agreed deal and are now trying to justify it?
Wow! I've read a lot of odd (want to use other words but won't) posts in the past, but this one takes the cake. This is an all-time low.

It seems to be that way all over.
So far, I have sold 2 iPads...both to Asians.
My first, a 64 GB WiFi Only...in Hong Kong via eBay...1100.
And Today, 32 GB Wifi Only...825...in Phoenix...

I just can't believe what is going on with iPads in NYC. Everyone is probably aware of the Asian gangs buying up all the iPads from Apple stores in the city. Now the market seems to be heating up on craigslist. On launch day I bought a 32gb 3G from an AT&T store. The store only had 8 units but they took my name and I only needed to wait 30 minutes. I planned to keep it but when I paid for the unit a guy in the store immediately offered to buy my iPad. After discussions we agreed on $1,000. The best ROI I have ever had on an investment.

On Saturday I went to the 5th Ave store in late afternoon and for some reason they still had some Wifi and Verizon models. I picked up a 32gb Wifi model thinking my dad would want it. Unfortunately he didn't. Before returning it, I listed it on CL for $750 just to see what I could get. No hits until today when I had about 6 people contact me and bidding up the price. I sold it for $800. The funny thing is a cute Asian girl wanted to buy it for $750 and I originally agreed but then received 3 offers at $800. She was already on her way to my place and I met her on the street. When I told her it would cost her $800 she just started crying right there on the sidewalk. This whole thing is crazy.

Do you have a pic of the cute asian girl?

I've been in this city for a while, and I can't say I've seen cocktails for $20+, let alone "easily". Sounds like you are getting taken if you are paying that much.

Yes. I guess so. I offered to walk over to the bank with her (1 block away) so she could get the money. She said she couldn't pay any more because she was a struggling student. I said to her since she is a "struggling student" maybe she should rethink buying the iPad 2 since its very expensive at the moment and just buy the original iPad. That is when she started crying.

Wow I don't think I've ever called anyone a scumbag on an internet forum before.

Depends where you go. Find yourself at some of the more trendy places like the Standard and $20 range for a cocktail is definitely the norm. I'm sure you can still find $3 bud light happy hour specials too.

And no I don't pay that much, I'm way too old and cheap for that :) Only if work is taking us out then why not.
