Yes. I guess so. I offered to walk over to the bank with her (1 block away) so she could get the money. She said she couldn't pay any more because she was a struggling student. I said to her since she is a "struggling student" maybe she should rethink buying the iPad 2 since its very expensive at the moment and just buy the original iPad. That is when she started crying.
Wow, just wow. So in addition to screwing your buyer, you also were willing to pony up some sage advice and for free?! You did all this for $50? You must be hard pressed.

The girl didn't show up when she said she was going to and I wasn't about to turn down other offers. I actually tried calling her but she didn't answer. She was about 1 hr late. While I'm waiting for her I have all these other people contact me. If she showed up when she said she was going to, then I would have sold it to her. The reason why I insist on people meeting near me, is because in the past I have had several people not show up when they said they were buying something from me and that is when I was traveling to them.
I call ********. My guess is she was not an hour late and if she was, that had little to do with you nickel and diming her. Who cares if you have others contacting you. For $50 I cannot see screwing someone over. Then again, I'm a much better person than you will ever be.

If I was the buyer I would have done the following:

1). Showed up on time after nickel and diming the seller to get a real good deal.

2). I probably would have paid the $800 since all other comparable listings for iPads were $850-$900.

3). Honored my word when I told the seller at initial contact that "the only reason I couldn't pay more is because I don't have time to go to the bank. ". The bank was only 1 block away and when the offer was made to go there then she suddenly didn't have the money.
SHE is nickel and diming you? Are you ****ing serious? You're the guy who f'ed her over for $50! You're unreal. The price of the iPad 2 won't be that much in 2 weeks. You would not have paid the $800, your first post makes that clear. On the other hand, my guess is if you're really willing to screw someone over for $50, paying $800 for that device is something you are likely incapable of. As for the whole idea of honoring her word, what word? That she would pay you $800? Your story is full of holes. It is a damn shame that people like you exist. I'm all for selling a hot item for a profit but I'm hardly a fan of people like you who will bail on a sale on account of $50.

The beauty of this is that you felt compelled to tell your story, although it's one big lie, online in some random internet forum. Do you feel super awesome now? I'm sure you were looking for some internet high fives; boy did that backfire.

Wow I don't think I've ever called anyone a scumbag on an internet forum before.

I have but I'm willing to bet I'd do it again given the right occasion. ;)

Reneging on your deal is pretty much a d*ck move but also being an hour late is also frustrating. I've had so much time wasted because people have no sense of punctuality. If you're 20 minutes late, it means your train was delayed, you were unlucky or something. If you're an hour late, you didn't leave until after you were meant to be somewhere.

Anyway, the NYC market is stupid. The 14th Street store is constantly out. Every day there's a line out front. I have a Verizon model because I went to the Fifth Avenue store at 2am on the Saturday after the launch (so like 14 hours after the 5pm Friday start) and that's all they had.

I'd ordered one online at 6am that morning (2 hours in). It's only today gone to "Prepared for shipment" so this one I basically consider a loaner until my real one arrives. I'm not real happy about the lack of (real) preorders this time around.

Looking on Craigslist though, maybe I should try and sell it. I'd probably need $1000 to justify the annoyance (once you factor in the sales tax I've paid on top of $829) and since mine isn't sealed, probably not worth it. Easier just to take it back to Apple I guess.

Another NYC iPad Hunter here... me and my friend walked down from columbus circle hitting every store that would have iPads from 60th st to 23 st and they were ALL out of stock. We waited at BH for two hours for a possible shipment then left. Then we got to Tekserve and found the model he wanted, 32GB White Wifi, they were just unpacking the shipment there, such luck. It was quite a day. The days before some black guy was trying to sell a 32GB 3G Black iPad for like 900$ outside the soho apple store.
Today I went back to Tekserve to see if they had any 64GB White wifi models for myself but they only had 32GB VeriPads White.
It's a jungle out there

How tall was he?

sounds like she was the first to show up to buy and had an agreed upon price ... but instead you made her cry ... for your Karma ... I hope she has 6 older brothers.

Just admit it you suck been a seller and dont keep your promise who will trust to do business with you next time...

How about you order online from apple.. and Fedex show up at your doorstep earlier then the given delivery date. How will you feel if Fedex demand an extra $50 for earlier delivery else they will sell it to other who willing to pay and ship you one later?

That's really an unfair statement. To the scalpers, I mean. This guys is worse than the scalpers because he's a liar to boot. You can't put a price on your word, but apparently for this guy it's $50!

Best response ever.

OP there is a reason eBay has strict rules on buyers and sellers. You prove the reason Craigslist is consistently getting scrutinized by the government for bad behavior.

What you did was ethically wrong and breach of contract. You entered into a verbal contract with the girl. If she had a recording of it she could sue you for not honoring the contract.

No way in hell would I as a woman walk over to an ATM with some strange guy who treated me like you and wanted more money. That's how women get robbed, raped and murdered.

Beware, karma's gonna get ya.

Glad I wasn't the only who thought the ATM offer was total creeptown. This guy has no class, and while I don't believe in karma, he most certainly will not make it far in life by screwing over people.

What gets me is that I can't even fathom flipping an iPad as a means for profit. I had the opportunity to buy an iPad on day one, but chose not to because of the backlight bleed issue. But even if I did buy one, I would not feel right ripping someone off--especially a college student who can barely afford an iPad at retail price. The is one of the main reasons I wish Apple had restricted the sale to one per person, so all of us had a fair chance and not feed extras to unscrupulous scalpers.

so you made a girl cry over 50 bucks after you already agreed to sell it to her?

I ****ing hate garbage people who do this. I drove all the way to this WalMart back when I wanted an iPad 1 and the woman agreed to sell it to me for $400. After my long drive there she texted me and said "someone offered 450, can you match that?". I ****ing found her address and slashed her tires.

maybe the store should enforce box opening and activiation right at the purchase, or perhaps restricted to online sale only, and limit to 1 person each until supply over demand.

Oh no, that was big time Creep Alert. My warning bells went off just reading that part of the story. I feel awful for the poor girl reduced to tears by this jerk.

Does Craigslist have some sort of seller ratings like eBay? This guy should be reported for his nonsense.

Stories like this make me loathe scalpers even more and have a yet lower opinion of Apple for doing squat to discourage the abuse we're seeing. I thought the Wii craze was nuts. iPad2 mania is downright absurd.

Holy *****, man. You're a complete ---hole. What is $50 to you? You already agreed to sell it to her for one price and now you want to walk her to the bank so that you can rip her off for $50 more?

While I think its is ridiculous to cry over a tablet that can't do half the things a similar priced laptop can, I am not the kind of person that would p*** all over some kid's excitement for a lousy $50.

Wow. Your mother must be proud of having raised such a noble son.

It's funny, pure capitalism makes people angry for some reason. OP is right, a "struggling student" shouldnt be spending $750 on an iPad anyway. You can buy two netbooks for that! If she could afford $750, she isn't struggling. An iPad isn't a necessity, it's a luxury.

Op had no right to judge her on how she uses her money, especially considering he has no morals , is a hypocrite AND his word cannot be taken as the truth.

Seriously the guy is a pleb for doin this, even worse is the fact he has tried to justify this by saying she was late lol ( I doubt this was true as well considering what he did to that girl).

What good would two netbooks do? Two computers that can only be used one at a time...?

OP is not right. The student might be struggling, but does that mean she isn't allowed to buy what she wants with the money she saves? Just because she's a struggling student she has to buy strictly necessities and nothing more at all?

The OP is wrong on so many levels. And most of these levels have been covered thus far. And for the OP to claim that she nickeled and dimed him to the $750 price, it makes me question whether the OP knows what nickel and diming actually means.

But on the bright side, this thread compelled me to log in and post for the first time since last September.

I would like to fist OP square in the face if I met him. Excuse me and I'm not sure why. His whole post just pissed me off

OP, next time dont waste others' time and tear.plz!
especially to a girl.

I hate sellor or buyer agree on something but turn his head later on.

I'm off to NYC on 2nd April for 5 days; on a scale of Slim to None, what do you think my chances are of picking up 32Gb AT&T one??

Officially of course, as I won't be meeting the OP on the street since he'd probably sell his granny to the slave trade for $50!

This happened to me. I had found an 64GB 3G on CL for $450 and was on my way to pick it up and the jerk changed his price ($50 more). I thought it was kind of rude, so I told him no thanks and turned around and went home. It wasn't because that I would not have paid $50 extra, but it's the way he approached it.

It sounded like he was playing games and I wasn't even sure he had an iPad for sale, since I requested pictures of the iPad multiple times, but he never sent any.

A day goes by and the guy texted me and said that the other buyer backed out and now I can have it for $400. Yes $400. I asked him for pictures of it or a serial number to verify that he has it. He still could not provide either.

The whole situation was kind of shady, I did not feel like playing games with this guy, so I did not buy it. There are way too many scammers on CL and it's not worth it. I understand that the OP was trying to get the most money for his iPad, but what was done to the asain girl was totally WRONG! There's a place for your kind, and that's on eBay, where bidding takes place.
