Most of the people I know, who are young 20 somethings, are uneducated on phones but are always updating on their 2 year carrier cycle. I don’t know anyone with an older phone than an 11. I haven’t seen anyone with 14s at work or in my social circle… the majority of them have 12s or 13s.

Perhaps in the US, here where I live it's so expensive that you might as well spend the extra for the Pro model which at least doesn't seem like a compromised, cheapened phone. And you at least know you bought the best iPhone.

I mean, it's cheaper to get an S22 Ultra and even a Fold 4, and probably the next Pixel XL, compared to an iPhone 14 Max, and these are serious flagships.

Don't get me wrong, I actually like the feel, colours and notch of the 14 more, but I wouldn't buy one, coming from an 11 Pro I can immediately see the 14 has one less camera. It's gotta be the Pro.

I think the problem with the 14 Plus in my country is the 13 Pro Max is around the same price on contract. For me it made better sense getting the latter for the spec you get. That’s not to say the 14 Plus is not a great phone though but the pricing is a bit of a gamble at £949 starting IMHO.

When I bought my girlfriend her S22 Ultra in March it was $1300 (that was after they gave her $300 for her Note 9 on trade in). That means her 512gb S22 Ultra was $1600 unlocked from Samsung...

It feels like forever waiting for my 14 Plus since everyone has the 14Pro, Max and regular 14...

The problem with the 14 Plus is that you're genuinely better off just buying a 13 Pro Max for the same price, or less in some cases. And if you're willing to spend just a bit more the 14 Pro Max is a FAR superior device... In the long run the Plus will sell well though, because it's a big phone from Apple for under $1K and the general public will eat that **** up.

For me, these are the current starts of quality/price. Iphone 13 pro max has promotion and macro/telephoto added lens but has 35 grams more…and lacks x65 5G new modem, bluetooth 5.3 to pair with new airpods pro 2, new 1.9f front camera. Beside this, battery of 14 plus I think is going to wow us…

We are enthusiasts, everyone that participates on MacRumors Forums is probably the most tech savvy person in their family, so granted, majority of us are going to always gravitate towards Pro models. Most of us understands that the 14 Plus is basically a stripped down, repackaged 13 Pro Max.

But I am firmly predicting that this phone is going to be the next iPhone 6S/6S Plus, iPhone XR. This model is going to sell like crazy because it's a big phone that has a massive battery and it's under 1k. This will be the go-to phone for normies, and the kind of phone you buy your parents/grand parents. People that have the XR, SE (2020), or any iPhone 8/8Plus or below is going to probably get this phone.

Calling it now!
I don't think it works that way.
Which model sells the most depends upon which model Apple promotes the most. Most people purchase their phones from their carriers, with a contract. And they make the purchase when their current phone breaks or their contract allows an upgrade. Which phone the upgrade to is very dependent upon what's in stock and what the prices and promos are. That's controlled by Apple and Apple's supply chain, especially now.

So we don't know. Maybe Apple will manufacture more Plus models than other models, and promote it more aggressively than other models, and maybe they won't. When I needed a new phone, they didn't have any iPhone 13, they had iPhone 12, so that's what I bought. And I chose the color that was in stock.

Yes, of course people's individual preferences play a role, but it is not the pure, consumer-driven free market you suggest, either.

I'm talking about prices now, not in March. At least here where I live the S22 Ultra is cheaper compared to the 14 (not Pro, not even Max!).

I had the same dilemma as you but my preferences were different so I’ve ended up with the 13 Pro Max. I don’t get 5G where I live unless I occasionally go to the capital which is 35 miles away. I use Soundcore headphones so the bluetooth is fine and I opted for the improved camera on the Pro. The weight isn’t ideal however. I was pleased by the choice of the two devices though.

I believe the pro models will sale better. It’s not that just for $200 more you get much more. It’s the fact that those that get monthly payments on a device you talking an extra $10-$15 a month extra. Also usa carriers giving a lot of credits towards the 14. So why not go for the pro’s for some extra dollars.
Yea I doubt price will mean too much with trades and installments. Availability will be the factor. People who just want a big screen and don't care about other features might snag Plus if the stores are still super sparse on Max stock then. One Max appears every few days, and is eaten in a blink of an eye.

I think it around Nov/Dec might get easier to get a 14 Pro.

I’ve been predicting this the moment they had a rumor about it. 😊 There’s a reason it got a delayed release, being available almost a month after the pre order starts!! Apple probably did this so it won’t cannibalize the sales of the other models.
I know I want to see if some cancel their backorders Maxes in droves once they see they can literally just walk in an Apple Store and snag a Plus

Do you mean Z Flip 4? I finally got tired of waiting to find a Max, and wanted to try Android again since it's been a while. Will have no installments with my 13PM trade for Z Flip, but there were no promos for the Fold. And only $475 for the 13PM trade for that. So still like $1200-$1300 left for Fold.

No, the Fold 4. I was looking at the 512Gb models since I have about 300Gb of music. Here where I live (Switzerland), right now the Fold 4 is 1370, the S22 Ultra is 1150 while the iPhone 14 Plus (not Pro) is 1409. All 512Gb models (the Samsungs do not take microSD either). CHF = USD at the moment.

This is really, really expensive for the iPhone 14. I personally think the S22 Ultra and the Fold 4 are much more capable phones, it would make no sense to get the iPhone 14 for this price.

So if I wanted a new iPhone I would definitely buy the Pro, at least it has superior capabilities to the Samsung flagships minus the unique folding screen but I personally have an iPad and I’m fine with it.

Um no - it does not offer SOS emergency which is the main reason I am upgrading from 12Pro.
I have always wanted the ability to summon help where I fish in remote waters.
In the past I had to rent a satellite text only device which was extra gear to haul in the backwoods.

I am happy with my 12 Pro - don't need the fancy camera and video hardware.

Lighter weight of the 14 Plus compared to 13 Pro Max and larger screen to help my aging eyes.

Is the 14 plus available to demo in apple stores? I’m curious since it weighs less than the 14P. I love my 12mini, but was thinking of the 14plus for travel. I don’t want stainless steel. I don’t care about the best camera

Not yet. It will be in apple stores on October 7th and reviews will be released Wednesday or Thursday before.

Perfect, thanks. I knew it wasn’t available yet, but thought maybe it would be available for hands on like how the initial watch was available

Really want to know how the 14 Plus will feel in the hand. Recently tried out the 14 Pro Max at a store, and it was just so heavy. As someone with a 12 PM I'm probably not the target audience for the 14 Plus, but honestly I think I would prefer it over the 14 Pro Max. It's more similar to the 6-8 Plus phones, which nailed the "phablet" ergonomic.

Apple has no interest in moving this date before. Iphone 14 plus does not have any complex components compared with 14 pro/PM, so the delay is not justified by any means. It’s only to avoid cannibalization with expensive models.

I might make the 14 plus my new back up phone. Right now I have my iPhone 14 Pro Max and the back up is an iPhone 13 in midnight color. Mint condition. Still 100% battery health with apple silicone case. I’ll be putting it up on FB marketplace in the coming days to see the offers and interest. Can’t resist that lightweight max size factor of the 14 plus. It weighs the same as the 8 plus from 2017.

It’s very interesting that we are much closer to iphone 14 plus release date but there is hardly any interest in forum. As I said before, after returning 14PM due to uncomfortable weight for me, option now are 14 Pro o 14 plus to replace current 11 PM. The problem is I know I’m going to miss extra battery from max to non-Max and reading threads about 14 pro battery situation seems to be even worse. I don’t want to configure as off all new things in order to save some battery if I have paid extra for those extra features…

Other option is holding 11 PM but a13bionic starts to be lower with some modern webpages compared with a15bionic of my ipad mini 6. And the lack of 5G is a little bit missed too…

So hard decission this year!
