I thought I had a perfect phone, until I heard the hissing. There should be a RECALL immediately! I wouldn't care if it was just a subtle sound you could only hear if you put ur ear to the back. However, this sound gets recorded into any video taken and is LOUD and obnoxious. It sounds like metal crickets/static in the top portion of the back of my phone.. probably an issue with the Intel chip or the new speaker placement.. It literally kills the video taking ability because the sound is riddled with nasty garbage noise... This is a design flaw and Apple screwed up big time. On top of this other people have countless other issues like bad screens, etc. Fortunately I got lucky there.. My brother and every other person I know with a iPhone 7 or 7 Plus have this hissing/static noise issue, along with countless message board posts saying the same thing. I'm returning my phone and waiting for Apple to address this, or I'm going back to the Note 7 as they've fixed the battery issue. They've released a broken product this year. There is no fanboyism here, just realism...

Enjoy your Sammy Note

A simple profile look-up for the OP's history shows:
  • He has had every possible problem with his iPhone 7 imaginable (screen, hissing, etc)....
  • He has personal grievances with Apple and the iPhone 7 (lens covers/lying, hardware flaws, conspiracies regarding Apple left/right/centre)....
  • He also had problems with his 6S generation....
  • He also had problems with his 6 generation....
  • He also had an exploding battery with his Note 7, but is still thinking about going back to his Note 7, and has no issues telling people on an Apple-based forum to get Samsung products instead of of the iPhone 7...
  • With all the conspiracies he's accused Apple of, he's quick to accuse anyone that says anything against him is buying into a conspiracy theory.
He may not be a troll. He may be the unluckiest tech user in the world. If he is - I agree with other's, there's ways to ask for help.... In such a case I'd be very sympathetic as that's a heck of a lot to go wrong to one guy.....

OP - if you're not trolling, there are people that will be sympathetic and will advise you, but with so many Apple (and even Samsung) customers, and so many of them not experiencing the same as you - it doesn't mean they're lying, it doesn't mean these companies are out to get you, it just means you've had the worst luck in the world. You have to see that your experiences (in their totality) aren't normal and these companies wouldn't be in business if they are.

If you've had as much bad luck as you have, I'm sure it's nothing that Apple wouldn't sort out. Most of us pay what many deem to be an "Apple Tax" precisely because when something goes wrong, Apple do go above and beyond to put things right. I can't fault their service, it's considerably better than any other company I've ever needed help from when things do go wrong....

Haha it's really a non issue and will likely fix itself over time. I can hear a tiny hiss if I place the back of the phone to my ear, that's the only time I hear it. Otherwise it does not affect any usage of the phone and cannot be heard on videos or anything.

All I'm reading is more twisted justifications and silly excuses for apple. Lol. Cults are silly.

Wait until you hear coil whine from a GPU on a powerful windows PC.

I just took a video using my 7 in a dead silent setting then played it back at full volume, couldn't hear a thing except for a very faint, constant, white noise. This can't be the hissing people are talking about, can it?

I also put my ear to the back of the unit and again, nothing. Is there a better way to reproduce this phenomena?
No, that's the hissing/noise of the preamp the microphone in the phone is using. It exists on all recordings, it's just some preamps have a better signal-to-noise ratio than others, and a lot of professional recordings use what's called a noise gate so the recording is truly silent in the silent parts rather than keeping the microphone turned on when no one is talking.

I personally hear the hissing sound when I place my phone to my ear. I haven't tested it with video recordings. That's the ONLY way I'll return my phone. If it doesn't affect audio quality. Then I'm good. I recognize that this is technology for one.. for 2.. it's coming from the processor. We have like a 2012 desktop class processor in our phones right now and anyone that has ever built a computer or used a computer without a case recognizes this sound.. it's normal. The only reason you can even hear it is because the apple logo isn't as thick of a material as the case of the phone.

I think people need to give Apple a break. And I feel it's not the original iPhone users that are complaining but mostly the new comers. People that hoped on the band wagon late. Personally, I don't think apples QC is dropping.. but when you have to make 40 million of anything in 3 months. Theirs going to be issues.. When you are trying to put the fastest everything in a phone as well as trying to make things thinner and lighter in a phone. And you are a company that is known to push the limits. You have to sometimes make sacrifices.. and you learn from it. We all remember the iPhone 4 days with the antenna problem.. but that antenna design was something nobody ever used before that allowed the phone to be that thin at the time. And that same design is essentially has been carried and used and improved till today with the 7. The same can be said with the original MacBook Air.. it's a sacrifice that we make and that's why we love Apple.. Could it be a manufacturing issue. Maybe.. did they know. Maybe? That's besides the point. Apple could always play it safe. But they don't. Apple is known and loved by the media because they always push the limits. That's what they are known for and they aren't afraid to do it. But aye.. go with Motorola or whoever that always try's to play it safe.

Got my phone in yesterday (7+ matte black 128g) no hiss or screen issues on my end. Other than me messing up the screen protector and having to buy a new one its been smooth sailing.

Again this is just speculation. We don't know 100% what is causing it

Seems like you totally ignored the link I sent you and also what many are saying here that it's coil noise and it doesn't make the phone explode. If it was the battery fizzing it would already have exploded in your ears while you were listening to it.

If you do find the coil noise too loud for your liking then get it exchanged or returned and either get another 7 Plus with, hopefully, less coil noise or get your Note 7 again. Whichever makes you happy. I do not condone flaming and I feel you, but you need to accept certain facts and either move on with life (e.g. accept the coil noise until Apple says it's an issue) or at least listen to some of the feedbacks here. In the midst of all the flaming there were still some constructive feedbacks.

LOL

In your delusional mind

Go and just hit ignore if you're really real about it and not just stirring up your post count in this, which I honestly dngaf

Seriously? Do people have a hissing noise issue? Yes!!!! So why are you trying to discredit what he's saying his problems with HIS phone? Geez so what if he has used different phones from different manufacturers I have done so he same thing and others in this thread I'm sure of. Some of us can be honest and like certain aspects in many different things that are different.

I'm not going to read through all the arguing, but I can add a solid +1 for this being an issue (not a health and safety issue, mind, but not something the phone should be doing). With little ambient noise I can hear the hiss from my phone (7+) from a good 6" away, and it gets picked up quite strongly when recording video - more-so even for me than any of the clips I've seen posted here. I'm hoping it'll be less of an issue when there's more real noise to drown it out. I should also note that my phone has been slowly working through re-downloading the massive amount of apps I have so hopefully the hiss quietens down once the wifi radio gets to take a break...

Not even a hint of noise from my old 6+.

Like I've said apple should do a voluntary recall for all affected devices. This seems like a hardware/engineering issue. Anyone insulting me is a fool as this is a real thing. And no, I'm not trolling

No hissing, no yellow screen over here on my 7 Plus....in any case, these issues arent life endangering in the slightest so there isn't any justification for a recall.

Sucks what happened to Samsung but there was a real safety concern for using Note7 devices as opposed to superficial hardware annoyances with the new iPhones.

Despite the manner in which he addressed the issue, OP does point out a valid problem with some (many?) of the units. Don't confuse the messenger with the message. I can feel his frustration too, as I also had to deal with the note 7 failure (leading me to become a first time iPhone owner). It's been annoying switching devices so frequently and having to set them up from scratch again and again. I do notice this issue when recording videos. I do find a total recall to be a bit of a drastic measure though.. I doubt I'll be exchanging the phone any time soon, seeing as the plus models are still rare, and I'd possibly be without a phone for quite a while. It is also not as bad of a problem as, let's say, an exploding battery..

The only reason you got flamed real bad is because of the way you talk. Honestly...

Just hold on to your horses for now. With the amount of chatter on the internet, Apple is surely looking into this. At least give them a bit of time to either come up with an answer or keep quiet. If they do ignore this issue, you can file a class action lawsuit.
