I pay $19.55 for 48 Emiril's Vanilla Bean K-Cups and $17.85 for 50 Coffee People Donut Shop K-Cups.

It's all about Amazon Subscriptions.

Edit: and if anyone is wondering about expiration dates, the last batch I received a week ago doesn't expire until April and May 2011. They'll be used up by the middle/end of this month.

The Breville is a Keurig with a different facade. The entire internal machine is all Keurig B70. In short, you pay a premium for a really fantastic looking machine that will perform just like a B70.

Yes, I know that. And that "really fantastic looking machine", well, looks really fantastic in my kitchen! :D

I buy my K-cups at Costco ($47.99 for 108 K-cups), so I save money that way.

Pssssst..... Amazon Subscriptions is cheaper (although I don't know which K-Cups you buy, here is a comparison between your price/quantity and mine:

You: $47.99/108 = 44¢ per cup

Me: $19.55/48 = 40¢ per cup
&
Me: $17.85/50 = 36¢ per cup

Plus there's no sales tax with Amazon.

:p

My lovely setup:

I'm drinking a cup of the Nantucket Blend coffee...delicious as well...

Every coffee I tried so far has been perfect, smooth, and rich in aroma...I love it!

I'm thinking of buying a Keurig coffee maker but i'm totally confused. I was look at the special edition one and the platinum. On the Platinum it says it has an ice beverage setting. Now on the box of each it says that you can brew hot over ice. Does the platinum one have an additional setting that the water comes out cold for true ice coffee?
I'm so confused
I'm a big iced coffee fan so this will be a deal breaker

Does anyone use the mini? It seems like it would fit my kitchen better but it doesn't have the ice coffee setting...

I have the Platinum B-70, and I use the iced setting daily.

The water doesn't come out cold for the iced beverage setting. It uses less water in that setting than in the others, so that the drink is stronger. You're supposed to brew it into a glass of ice so that the ice melts and adds to the liquid in the drink. I think that if I used one of the other settings to make iced coffee, too much hot water would be used and too much ice would melt.... it would water the drink down terribly.

I'm very happy with the B-70.

Thanks Surely,

I can't decide between the B60 and the B70. If i go for the B60, BJs has it for like 130 and you get like 70 k-cups and the my k-cup. If I go for the B70 i can get it at bed bath and beyond with a 20% savings. So it comes down to only a few dollars between the two. What samples are included in the normal package? Are they good ones or are the crappy flavors no one likes.:p

I believe there were 16 samples of various flavors included. All but one has been used, and that's only because I haven't felt like Earl Grey Tea yet.

Both models are good choices, I'm sure I would have been happy with the B-60, but I'm glad I got the B-70. The B-70 has a larger reservoir, the iced setting, and has a 12 oz size..... the B-60 only goes to 10 oz. http://www.keurig.com/compare-keurig-brewers

Have you checked Amazon as well? That's where I bought mine.....

Before we got the Keurig, my wife and I had two different coffee makers, as we enjoyed two different styles of coffee... she likes flavored coffee and I like coffee that grows hair on my uvula. ;)

Nowadays I am hooked on Kona blends and a few chai teas.

Oh, and here's a tip: recently our Keurig started cutting off sporadically and making half-cups instead of full. It turns out that our well water is "scaly" and was gunking up the inside of the machine. So, I ran a cup of vinegar through the machine and flushed it with two reservoirs of water. Now it's right as rain.

Good tip. They recommend doing that every couple of months. :)

I also use filtered water only (Brita) for my Keurig.

For the love o' Keurig...!

So I have this Keurig hot beverage machine now-- Elite B40, for those who must know. I must admit it’s nifty.

I’d like some K-cup recommendations. Yes, I have the My K-Cup adapter already, but I’d like your opinions (positive and negative) on the various pre-packaged brands and flavors you may have tasted.

Here’s what I’ve tried so far, and my judgments…

From the starter pack included with the machine:
  • Green Mountain French Roast: Too acrid.
  • Green Mountain Nantucket Blend: This was good enough to drink black, although I usually like a darker, richer flavor.
  • Tully’s French Roast: Umm, no. Raspberry-flavored syrup couldn't help this one-- I couldn't finish it.
  • Newman’s Own Dark Roast: This is the best dark roast I’ve tried so far, although that's not saying much; it's OK with a touch of soymilk.
  • Timothy’s Melange Italien: Umm, no again.
My wife went crazy in Bed Bath and Beyond the other day and got the K-cup drawer and four 12-packs:
  • Café Escapes Café Mocha: Sweet and chocolaty—my wife loves it. Then again, she likes those instant cappuccino machines at gas stations and loads them with syrups.
  • Café Escapes Hot Chocolate: For my daughter, who likes it; haven’t had it myself.
  • Celestial Black Tea & Lemonade Iced Tea: This is a nice variation on the “Arnold Palmer”.
  • Café Escapes Chai Latte: Not bad, but I kinda prefer Indian masala chai.
So, what I’d want ideally is:
  • A rich, dark coffee that strikes the right balance between smooth and intense. Something I can drink black, like the coffee served traditionally in Ethiopian restaurants.
  • A couple of other sweetened coffee flavors for my wife; she likes coffee that doesn’t taste like coffee, pretty much.
  • A really good chai, preferably masala style if it’s available in a K-cup.
  • Other iced teas to try.
I’m open to suggestions, and would appreciate any advance warnings on what brands/flavors to avoid.

Fans of Kona Blend k-cups may want to stock up. I got a notice, the other day, that they have all been discontinued due to supply issues.

By the way, I finally found what I was looking for: Caribou Coffee's Obsidian. Deep, dark, flavorful, yet smooth.

I'm glad this thread got bumped.

If you like a full-flavored cup, Coffee People's Wake-Up Call is a good one.

I brew a lot of oversized (12 oz) mugs, usually travel mugs, and these bolder K-cups don't get watered down.

Am I the only one using Keurig water filters?

I think only the newer models work with those correct? I don't think mine can use them, but I don't remember the model # (it is several years old).

EDIT: I have an original B40 with only 1 brew button (1 size), not 2 as on the newer models.

Thanks for the tip, though I don't relish the thought of smelling hot vinegar while I do this...

I have an older B60 model that doesn't have the filter. The thing's starting to get loud so maybe a cleaning will do it good...

Mine (the Platinum) didn't come with a filter, either - you put this in the water reservoir.

It is for only newer models, though:

I remember researching these when I bought my machine, and the consensus was that they were pretty useless.

I elected to go the Brita route because it makes it really easy to fill up the water chamber, and I have enough counter-space to keep a filled Brita pitcher right next to the Keurig.
