Did, you tried out 2x LBD daisy chained? Any results?
BTW how do I daisy chaine to see one volume? Or do I missunderstand somehting?
you first see them as 2 drives one one lbd then with a daisy chain as 4 drives with 2 lbds. you then open disk utility and if you want 1 big 1tb volume you build a raid0 with 4 of the ssds. i have run 3x samsung 256gb ssds 2 in 1 lcd and 1 in the second lbd this was a 768 gb raid0 as my booter
iirc about 600/550 read write.
i would not mix different drives in a raid.
same size and type work better. [general rule of thumb] you could do 3 ssds a a raid0 and then use a hdd in the last slot as a stand alone drive 3x ssd = 768gb as a raid0 and a 500gb -1tb hdd as a stand alone tm or backup of some kind

Hi, This is interesting, could you please tell me the negotiated link speed of the controller (Little Big Disk) in system report?
Also how old is the LBD? did you buy one with 1TB drives and swap them out for the SSD's?
I am trying to assess if they have changed the hardware at some point from the original ones they released last year to the ones that are currently available because I have one of last years enclosures and it shows link speed of 6gbps but NEGOTIATED link speed of 3gbps and when I tried a SATA 3 SSD inside the enclosure (Vertex 4) I could only get around 150mbs read speed which I took to mean that it is only negotiating to SATA 2.
Their newest one with the 2 X 512 SSD's claims to have read speeds of 670mbs so the only way I can see they have achieved this would be if the negotiated link speeds were 6gbps.

the new version is faster. the old version would max each drive at about 280/250 which was a pair of sata II if you were lucky in raid0 you could get about 480/440.
the new ssd models can go up to 670/600 in raid0 .
remember these speeds don't help unless you are copying from this to another ssd. I have 3 older lbd's 1 promise pegasus r6 and a seagate thunderbolt adapter. I done a lot of testing and the best copy speed I every got was about 530mbs I had a 2011 quad mini to the pegasus in the Pegasus

I booted with the mini's internal and it had an internal 128gb samsung 830 ssd.
on the 1tb raid I had 10 18gb sized eye tv recordings they were in a file folder so the copy had 180gb data . it copied it at 490 to 530MB/s really fast
but some claim to have done some large copies at about 800MB/s
I never could get those speeds without stutter issues. but those test were done about 10 months ago.

A 1 year and 1 month of ops follow up. the gear is still going strong.
I have used it in 8 or 9 different setups.
I have settled with 2 500gb sata II toshiba ssds.
1 boots 1 is a clone. I am happy with it.

they are now selling 4 I grabbed menus 3 in a family pack deal on black friday 2010. 28 bucks for 5 computers. half price 14 bucks.
i think menus 4 is going for 16 for a single pc. it also has a great fan control if you really want to push the mini's cpu for a long hand brake job (sounds like porn does it not). Hand brake can use all cores on the cpu. I have lots of speeds to pick from in my fan settings.

Thanks for all the testing you did regarding this setup. I have got my LBD but still debating which SSD setup to go with.
I was set on a RAID 0 setup which I believe you were using at one stage(I could be wrong). Any particular reason you moved away from that?

yeah I setup a fusion with a 250gb ssd and a 500gb oem. so it is 750gb size. I decided. to use the 2 external 500gb ssd as jbod clones.
so my fusion has about 365gb info and each clone has the same. the raid0 was rock solid. but I don't need it with the fusion.
I have my eye on this new gear as it is a stacking match for the mini

Lacie 2BIG 6TB Disassembly.
Got bored so I tore down the Lacie 2big 6TB Thunderbolt. To my surprise I found the same board used in the Lacie Little Big Disk mounted atop a power module to turn off bigger drives etc. See attached photos.

I have 4TB Little Big Disc (9000466) and I tried replacing 2TB Samsung HDDs with Samsung Evo 4TB - Lacie enclosure failed miserably. I only got 210/220 MB/s speeds (test by blackmagic) regardless of whether SSD was the only drive installed or if it was also accompanied with another drive (non-raid configuration).
Surprisingly, my ancient Seagate Backup Plus Portable Thunderbolt Adapter (https://www.amazon.com/Seagate-Backup-Portable-Thunderbolt-Adapter/dp/B009HQCARY) has performed considerably better with 4TB Samsung EVO SSD, resulting in 325/375 MB/s (yes, it does work, despite numerous reports saying that this adapter can only handle SSD with no more than 256 GB).
My conclusion is - Lacie's claim that Little Big Disc has "Up to 10Gb/s Interface Transfer Rate" is a flat out lie. They produce non-future prof garbage only to get your money.
P.S. I used Lacie's enclosure for ~2 years with noisy useless fan removed. I noticed no difference in drives temperature (max t = 99 degF).
