Careful now. Apparently asking questions about cases and sleeves is a big "no-no" around here. You may only go to the "cases/sleeve thread from 2010" and read. I repeat no questions. Just read old this 3 year old thread about cases that may Or may not still be available.

If you attempt to start a new thread or ask about specific cases, this thread nazi (aka the prick posting above this post) will jump all over you and tell you to read the "cases/sleeve thread from 2010" and tell the mods to lock your new thread.

You have been warned.

Haha this is hilarious.. Thanks you man

I'm a big fan of the Twelve South company and their BookBook (real leather cases designed to look like an ancient leather bound book) iPad, MBA and MBP cases.

Personally, this is what I use; I love the elegance, the style, the fact that my iPad and MBA are both well protected, and greatly admire the high quality products made by Twelve South (in fact, I only learned of the company on this forum, I had never heard of them before that).

You know, it is possible to make that very point - quite precisely - without resorting to crude language.

As it happens, in general, I agree with you re a certain expressed intolerance towards questions that may well have been asked half a dozen to a million times before, and I agree that you (and other newbies - we were all newbies once upon a distant time) should feel free to ask questions, and be uninhibited in doing so, but there are other words which can be used to describe the actions of someone who is maybe - or comes across as - a bit intolerant,.....perhaps a little ungenerous with their time......less than fulsome in their welcome to newcomers........

Thanks for the replies guys, I appreciate it. I'm gonna look into your recommendations, and also read the official thread about it. I'm just used to people wanting a new thread for each individual issue on forums, no intentions to disrespect the norms here.

Please explain what has changed about MBAs that would render the existing thread irrelevant?

Did their width change? No.
Did their length change? No.
Did their thickness change? No.

Sounds like Saddleback Leather's MBA sleeve fits exactly what you are looking for. I have one and its great. $80 and some of the best quality leather and craftsmanship around

I'll second that - the quality made by Saddleback is superb and it crafts/makes/produces some great products. Actually, this is another terrific company I only learnt of through this forum - indeed, this forum is a wonderful way to learn about superb US companies.

Anyway, recently, I bought one of their bags and it is an incredibly well made - an awesomely well made piece of leather. Be warned; their stuff is not cheap, but it is superlatively well made.

How come nobody gets yelled at or threads locked when the 5,279th thread is made about 'SHOULD I RETURN MY AIR' or 'SHOULD I GET 8GB OF RAM'

Does this mean they're gonna get rid of all the extra I5 vs I7, and LG vs Samsung threads.:)

Here's the deal: I really just want a thing sleeve that will fit easily in a small backpack, but I also want to be able to use it as a pad to put the macbook on in bed while maintaining healthy cooling.

Won't happen.

I use my Air on my lap, bed a lot so I know.

A "lap-pad" needs to be flat and rigid. Never mind cooling but if at any given time the 4 rubber feet are not in contact with the pad, it will slide all around and given the Air's lightweight this doesn't seem acceptable to me.

If somehow u can find a hard case that has an outer rubbery texture, OK, but I haven't seen one.

Nowhere in my original response was there anything about the MBA changing.

Cases available when that thread was thriving may no longer be available. Also, new cases may be recently released that were not available when the thread was thriving.

better?

Then build on the thread with new information.

I made an account just to offer my input to you guys that always try to end new threads and questions because they have apparently been answered previously. Look, I am a hardcore Windows/ Android user, I have grown to hate Windows however because of windows 8 and I am looking to purchase a Macbook Air within two weeks. I have been lurking for at least one month gathering information and answering my doubts and questions with the answers this community has provided. You guys have truly been helpful and I love reading other peoples questions. I do my research. With that said, it is aggravating when some of you tend to detract from the thread starters question.

On more than one occasion a question relevant to my needs has been detoured to another thread that is much less relevant to the specifics that the original poster asked, which left me with no more knowledge than I did before. It takes a lot of courage to switch operating systems, ESPECIALLY two of them and it is nice to find questions and answers that match your specific issues. If my experiences with Mac are good I am planning on buying my first iPhone after 4 years of android. Sorry that was so long, it was shorter in my head.

As for the question, I was looking at buying this one, it is very elegent. http://www.hardgraft.com/collections/11-macbook-air/products/x-macbook-smoke

...and all the wisdom contained in the 'old' threads goes to waste because people think their sleeve/case requirements are so unique, they've never been discussed over the past 2 - 3 years and can only be addressed in a new thread. I understand.

Hey guys, I'm looking for a sleeve for my new macbook air. I've been all over google looking for the right one, but I can't seem to find the perfect one.

Here's the deal: I really just want a thing sleeve that will fit easily in a small backpack, but I also want to be able to use it as a pad to put the macbook on in bed while maintaining healthy cooling.

Price doesnt matter, I appreciate quality. At first I was thinking maybe hard leather, or a hard case or something.

I really like leather, but only real leather. Especially crocodile leather. I also found this: http://r.ebay.com/6S8htA which looks pretty much perfect (i have the 13 inch though, they also sell it for that but i dislike ebay).

So if anyone knows of something similar to that, or simply a sleeve hard enough to not interfere with the macbook airs cooling in anyway, please help me out.

OP, although it isn't leather, I purchased a CaseCrown Book Cover for MBA 13. According to the reviews and personal experience, it doesn't feel cheap at all. It also has a palm rest. The downside is (and this might be a no go for you for this reason) with heavy use, you might get some heating/ventilation blocking. But for light use, it holds up well.
Hope that helps!

again thanks for replies, also I just wanna say thanks to AXs. I didn't have time to check your link before today, and I saw you had found a pretty good alternative in the existing post. Thank you it's the best option ive seen so far.

The only change that would even matter is the second microphone port that some cases might cover.

Hey everyone! Long time lurker, first time poster.

I'm loving my new MacBook Air 11, and I'm about to take it to school this coming semester. I want a snap on case to protect it. (I already have a nice bag to carry it in thanks to Booq.) I ordered the cheap iPearl case on Amazon and wasn't thrilled -- it squeaked, was a fingerprint magnet (my mistake for going black, probably), and just didn't feel right to me.

The Moshi iGlaze case seems ridiculously overpriced, but as far as I can tell it also seems to have universally good reviews -- including from people who have tried the cheaper options. Can anyone add their two cents? Is there a significant difference in quality between the Moshi and others? Has everyone who's gotten it been satisfied with their investment?

My plan is to definitely go translucent this time. I also intended on buying it from Moshi's official site, but are there better options?

Thanks!

I usually am a Zagg skin user with all of my Mac portables, but this time I went with the Moshi iGlaze "translucent" for my 13" 2013 MBA (yes, it has a hole drilled for the 2nd mic). I've never been a fan of snap-on's like Speck but this Moshi is of extreme quality. The fit is amazingly tight and I really can't tell there is anything at all on the Air (I really like the look of a naked Air). No issues with creaking, or with the top piece bending or separating when opening the lid...it also does not at all limit how far back the display can open. Very light, excellent non-slip tactile feel, not a fingerprint magnet, impressively scratch-resistant . It IS expensive at $60.00, but I purchased mine on Amazon with free Prime shipping and no tax. Best protective cover I've purchased.

Outstanding, well made product that i highly recommend.

Are there any hard cases that don't cover the new second microphone?

Also, I briefly had an InCase Hammered Hardshell that did NOT fit the June 2013 13", so I returned the case. It was slightly different for the top case and did not fit, leading me to believe the top case of the 2013 13" has indeed changed.

I just purchased the new Moshi iGlaze for my 2013 13" MBA and it indeed has the hole for the 2nd mic...it is rather expensive at $60.00, but it is the best snap-on case on the market today IMO.
