Fantasy means 'not real' and 'make believe'
So Fizzystan is not really a country, and their leading goal scorer is not really David Villa. Well, not until they declare independance from Mrs. Fizzistan anyway 😉
Edit: It does give armchair managers a chance to prove their worth though, although even the best managers can be undone by other factors. Take the ball for example...

We are all better than the managers at the World Cup.🙄 There are a number of games that allow us to show our superior skills; all give a budget used to assemble a team, and the players are awarded or deducted points - goals, own goals, clean sheets, goals conceded, bookings .... Because it's not real, sorry to break it to some people, the word 'fantasy' is used; alliteration? Football's version of a virtual investment portfolio.

I peeked at pivo6's lineup...😱 We both have Lahm, but he's got Pique.
So Pique: Relax today. Get the ball to you your mates early, let a goal or two breeze by (but not from Schweinsteiger), and just have fun out there. Whatever you do, do NOT score. You hear me? DO NOT SCORE. Great. Nice chatting with you.😉
I really think the MR Fantasy WC is going to boil down to the choice of Captains in the Final. If you pick the right guy and he scores a couple or three, there's quite a few people out there who have a chance.

too true . especially with only 2 teams to choose from choice is limited and pretty much everbody will have the same players.. but also deciding can be if a game ends 1:0 or 2:1 .. not only because of the strikers but also defenders (clean sheet)
that's why i decided to go for a 3-4-3 in the final 4 games .. i'm gambling on no clean sheets and on the midfielders
but even with getting van bronkhorst, robben and forlan as goalscorerers and kuyt with the assist right i'm still barly up front and since pretty much everybody is going to have the same german + spanish players i think not much else will chance
We also score points from the third place play-off match, so don't go dumping your Uruguayans just yet. 😉
Mind, you're right insofar as the pool of available players has diminished greatly. A lot of us are naturally going to be selecting the same players so things like choice of captaincy could prove crucial to deciding who wins the competition...

well i suspect i was one of the few who had Forlan on their squad right from the beginning thus i'm sticking with him (sadly Lugano injured: he was just so great as a centreback at the early games)
but it also depends on who is going to lose todays game: if germany means it means spain battling for the third place .. which honestly i don't think they are really capable off especially against yet another very defensive squad with two dangerous striekrs up front
if uruguay faces germany then i will say goodbye to everyone who isn't Forlan.. because germany is no matter what, going to try to get at least 3rd place (and perhaps possible try to help Klose get that goal record)

The question is... how costly has that decision been for you? Let's take a look at the post-Semi Final standings...
Well, those missed 14 points has put you off the pace a bit, behind our leaders Tilpots and pivo6, whose teams are level on points with only two matches remaining in the tournament. As we've discussed, we're at a point now where a good performance or indeed a poor one by a single player could make all the difference, so I'm sure that Tilpots and pivo6 will be carefully considering their players' form while I'm left checking how we split teams in the event of a tie. 😀
One situation where there's a clear winner though is our Team of the Round award with an uncontested 56 points from the two matches played it's Ipanemas who take the plaudits on this occasion.
So well done to their manager vincebio, and of course Tilpots and pivo6 too. 🙂
I mentioned a potential tiebreaker in my previous post, and I thought that given that we've got two players topping the table with equal scores it best be something that I look into so we know where we all stand.
The game's official rules have two ways of separating teams in the event of a tie...
* Tiebreaker #1 - The Entrant with the highest score in the final Game Week (which includes the Semifinal and Final matches) will be considered the winning entry.
* Tiebreaker #2 - In the event that the scores during the final Game Week are tied, the Entrant whose date of entry creation was recorded the earliest will be considered the winning entry.
Now, Tiebreaker #1 is fine but the problem with this is that we have two players going into the gameweek already level on scores so if they're level after the final tomorrow then they've clearly scored the same points, making Tiebreaker #1 redundant.
However, Tiebreaker #2 looks a pretty unsatisfactory way of settling it basically whoever registered first wins it. As such, I've made an executive decision and in the event that things are tied I'll be using the following methods to determine the winner...
First, I'll look at Gameweek total score whoever has gained the most points in the final week wins (basically, Tiebreaker #1 from the official rules).
If this is level, I'll then look at Goal points gained. I'll total up the number of points gained through goals scored in the final week, whichever team has the higher tally wins. Please note that this is the total number of points the team has gained through goals, not the number of goals actually scored. The captain's bonus counts.
If this is level, I'll then look at Clean Sheet points gained. I'll total up the number of points gained through clean sheets in the final week, whichever team has the higher tally wins. Remember that Clean Sheet points can be earned by Midfielders as well as Defenders and Goalkeepers. Once again, the captain's bonus counts.
If after all this we're still level, then it's officially a tie and the title is shared, unless the players level on points fancy meeting up for a penalty shootout. 😛

Tie breaker rules look fair to me.
Captain, my Captain Muller came thru big today! He and Forlan were my only remaining transfers for this game and both score. Unbelievable. Plenty of football left tomorrow.
Will Van Brockhurst find the goal again or will Pique and Schneijder come thru for Brainerd FC? This is gonna be a great finish!

honestly though i pulled a lucky one today .. before the semi finals i took cavani in the squad as a cheap back up for the bench since i knew he was going to start no matter what and he scores today for the first time at the cup
and with klose and lahm being out because of flu, cavani on the bench with his goal gave me the points 😉
though i also have müller, özil, forlan and arevalo (though on the bench thus very likely i'm going to loose 2 points there)
for tommorow i'm all down to the classic ones: Villa,Robben, Kuyt, Puyol, van Bronckhorst can all bring me points tommorow...
my Captain was an obvious choice with Müller as well.. no matter what he just _scores_

As we can see, our winner was run close by pivo6 and his Brainerd FC, while Takao Tigers kept the pressure up on the two leaders right until the death so a special doff of the cap to those two gentlemen.

Woo-hoo! First a blue ribbon in the 10 million post avatar contest and now this? I don't even know what to say... So let me just get this speech out of my pocket.
This was a team effort. Each member stepped up and contributed as their name was called every single round of this tournament. I want to thank all the fans for their support and the constant blaring of the vuvuzelas. I'm partially deaf now, so I couldn't really hear you cheering but it looked like you were clapping.😕
pivo6 and takao, you were worthy competitors. Hats off to stellar finishes.🙂
