Is there a way to use ICQ with iChat still? Looking online I found many articles ranging from 2004 to 2011 but nothing current. I've never used it myself. :p

Here's a crazy suggestion:
How about Gamer9430 or AmazingHenry make a PowerPC-titled account on VaughnLive or something similar.
Then the rest of us make our familiar user names accounts there too.
Keep the chatroom open 24/7 with assigned trusted mods chosen by either Gamer or Henry.
I'll need to check out VaughnLive. Maybe I can set up something unless @Gamer9430 want to. ;)

Ok, after hearing much feedback, I think its safe to say we will be staying on Slack for the time being. I know this will disappoint some, but in reality, the chat is easy to access by other means than just using the online thing. As proven by several people, Slack opens and runs fine with a User Agent changer in TenFourFox. Besides logging in via the website, Slack has full IRC support. By going to ppcmacs.slack.com/gateways, you can see your individual login information for IRC. Thanks to this support, you can use apps such as Adium and Colloquy to login, eliminating the need for the web browser altogether.

EDIT:

Well I'll be damned, I discovered Slack also has XMPP/Jabber support, which you can use with iChat. And sure enough, i went to iChat on my G5, signed in successfully, and opened the main chat channel!

Awesome! Could you post the details of how to login to Slack with iChat please? If it works, I'll probably like to join the chat as well, if that's alright. :)

It works via jabber/XMPP. You'll need to sign up for the Slack using the web, and a customised gateway link will give you all the config information. Just plug it into the right box in iChat and you're away.

If you get any problems then ask in the Slack at the time. ;)

All I need is your email (PM it to me) and I'll send you an invite!

I confirm it works really well on iChat:

Wait a minute... why is that my profile picture?

Anyway, I still can't get it to work... could you screenshot your settings?

Make sure you're typing your password in correctly. There may be an L that looks like a 1. I noticed it when I was typing in my password because I've done a little work in Java (most coding programs use that font) and when I first saw it, it through off my program since I thought it was a 1, not an L (lowercase).

Also, if it prompts you about a certificate, you have to select always trust.

Also, you need to go to File, join channel or something like that, and type in General in order to join the main channel.

Please show me where have I complained about Henry's posting volume? You are having a go at me for something I never said.

My point was that we're trying to help Henry out here, and he's been asked a few times now which version of OS X and/or iChat he's using. He just complain's it's not working and doesn't provide enough information to get some useful help.

He was using OS X Tiger's iChat, and eventually used Adium to access the XMPP Slack gateway.
*mumbles about storms and teacups*

Sorry for the doublepost. It was a mistake btw, but it turned out nicley. :D

OK, I thought this was a different thread, where "answering the question" was not necessary. I didn't realize it was the Slack thread.

@MagicBoy I said on the Slack chat that I was using Tiger multiple times.

Hey I know I know, we're just having fun, there's no need to get emotional :)
Yeah, the PowerPC Macs forum is probably the most emotional one around...

@MagicBoy maybe he posts a lot, but, we must admit that since he came back, he brought new life in the PowerPC Macs section. I am happy there are users like him
I don't wish to diminish anyone's contributions to the forums here, but I must ask.

If you believe your statement to be true then it implies that you thought these forums were a dead wasteland before he came back.

Which has a negative reflection on all members not named AmazingHenry.

If true, I find this a little hard to accept. I don't think that's what you meant, but clarification might be good. :)
