Appears that ICQ does backlog messages, but it's setup is a bit strange and the interface is quite unusual. So on that note, I guess it'll be Skype, since Skype still works on PPC. Any objections or other options?

Totally cool with Skype. It's the one app I learned real messaging in.

As I mentioned earlier, only the public chat (the one this thread pertains to) will be migrating to Skype or a different platform. The private one will remain on slack for the foreseeable future... Sadly, since you are annoyed with Slack, I guess that means you will not be returning to the private chat.

Not for the time being it seems.

Got home from school today and went on the G5 to setup Skype. After trying to remember what my password was, i finally was able to login and message someone successfully. So on that note, I think unless anyone objects, we should move forward with the transition to Skype.

Does Skype work right away or do you need a hack?

On that note, I've sent everyone a PM on Slack requesting their Skype usernames. You can send them to me on there or in a PM on here. As for @eyoungren, @Slix, and @KawaiiAurora, as well as anyone who may want to join, if you would still like to join, you can send me a PM through MR and I can then add you.

just need to change the version number in the info.plist with something like TextWrangler... I guess I could also upload the modified file to be replaced inside Skype.app>Contents.

Tried getting into Skype. Changed the version to 8.0 in Info.plist.

The app wouldn't let me create an account so I went online and did it. When I tried logging in with Skype it told me the password was wrong. I reset my password in case I had typed it incorrectly at registration. Skype still says it's incorrect.

I AM typing the password correctly btw. I've tried about 15 times, won't let me in still! :(

Anyone else ever had this problem?

i had the same issue, but my password was actually wrong. and its not 8.0... should be 6. something as it mentioned in the post on LEM.

6.15.0.334 this is the exact version number... you also need to disable auto-update/check for updates as it resets the modifications made.

Yep, red the LEM post, turns out there were a lot of things I was doing wrong. For example I was using TextEdit and they said it wouldn't work.
[doublepost=1493846845][/doublepost]Well, followed everything the LEM post said. Still not working. :(

Honestly, I don't see why a "setup that's a bit strange" is a reason to not use ICQ. But whatever, as long as I can get Skype working eventually.

ICQ's interface was, in my opinion, extremely difficult to navigate. I could give it another shot, i guess. Not really able to test it however since no one else has an account.
[doublepost=1493849610][/doublepost]Ok, so upon testing ICQ with someone else, it does indeed backlog messages. And once you get it setup, it is easy to navigate. So, completely reversing course from Skype, now does anyone object to ICQ?

Having installed it earlier .... it doesn't appear to have changed since the last time I used it in the 90s!

Looks proper odd on Leopard, the main app is very Mac OS 8.6 looking.

Same opinion as earlier, I don't want to have to install a whole new client and make a new account for it. Also, the early polls are not looking favorably for ICQ and Skype! Hopefully the sane decision can be made to keep Slack, as it does work on PowerPC with a few tweaks as shown by other members. It's the best option without needing to mess with separate clients.

Here's a crazy suggestion:
How about Gamer9430 or AmazingHenry make a PowerPC-titled account on VaughnLive or something similar.
Then the rest of us make our familiar user names accounts there too.
Keep the chatroom open 24/7 with assigned trusted mods chosen by either Gamer or Henry.
