I'm a 50 year old white male and it's obvious what's going on here with these comments... sexism and jealousy. How dare a blond female discuss tech!! I think she's great to watch and my girls love watching her, which makes them interested in tech too. Is she my preferred tech reviewer? No, but that doesn't mean she's a "shill" or whatever else you call her. She seems to know her stuff too, certainly more than a lot of us more casual readers interested in Apple products.
Yes. Your age and status qualify you to make what must be a 100% spot on assessment of the thoughts of everybody on this forum.
Meh.

Whilst we should have evolved past it. People like to look at things, (including other people), that are easy on the eye.

So true

And for both women and men, we simply react to it and there's absolutely no way to "not" have it be something you react to. It's literally built right in and by the time you've maybe noticed yourself reacting to it, you already have.

I'm of course not advocating for extending further conscious selection bias from that point, but it's undeniable that humans react to visually attractive things with a positive correlation of some kind.

I respect what she does, but I do wish she would see the flaws and not think everything is amazing, even talking about the studio display she said I love that display and there isn't any issues, she just can't ever say one thing is bad, that's why she can't be trusted for reviews
I agree with you and don't even let myself consider tuning into anything she does or is featured in for this reason.

I feel like I'm more entertained and get more product information from watching one of Apple's 1-minute ads.

But I do think that there's a certain audience that enjoys this kind of extremely light-hearted approach to tech.

Like some people, even very young ones, are both in the market for a laptop but also completely "tech illiterate" in terms of computer specs and have no clue what to look for when buying new tech and just want something that looks good and pairs well with their iPhones.

I feel like they just want to get hyped about pretty Apple stickers and colourful MagSafe cables. And that's what influencers like Justine are for.

On the flip side, maybe everything isn't always as awful as everyone makes it out to be, and publishing an opinion that matches, maybe what, 5-10% of consumers will think doesn't make sense when you make content to appeal to the other 90%.

I see so much hate for her in these forums and I don't get it. If you don't like her, don't watch her content, don't watch her reviews. Hold out for the ones you care about instead. You will probably never see the 90%/casual audience moaning about the more in depth technical reviewers, so why do we always see the 10%/hardcore audience getting upset about content aimed at a more casual audience?
Getting mad at iJustine for her take on tech is like getting mad at a kids' TV-show presenter doing a segment on the history of Japan who doesn't talk about the destructive work ethic and subsequent depression that's plaguing the Japanese workforce today.

iJustine is for kids, teens, young adults and anyone wanting to get into tech and need something that's very easy to grasp but still has more depth than advertising.

I hope we can all try to grasp that far from everyone is at the level of tech literacy and cynicism about consumer electronics that many in here are.

Like, go watch Linus Tech Tips if you want your tech drama fix for today.

Justine has done nothing wrong.

Like many other influencers, she has to be seen as the longer arm of the Apple marketing staff and NOT as an independent tech reviewer. As an influencer she does a very good job, but a horrible one as a tech journalist. It’s the same with every other media published, no matter if printed or digital, Do you have to pose the question, who is publishing for which target groups and with what kind of agenda in mind. Many people confuse influencers with friends, but they want to sell a product.

So you just completely ignore all of my points about esthetics and battery life, two things that are very important to normal customers.
And once again, price is price, $100 is still $100 that could be going to something else like AppleCare.
Clearly you don’t understand the average consumer who couldn’t tell you a 3nanometer chip from a barbecue chip.
To them for $200 less they get pretty colors, smaller and lighter design and longer battery.
Why do you care what they purchase as long as they’re happy?
Personally, I know for my needs that a 14 MBP would be absolutely overkill and I’d never use even half of its power.
120hz isn’t something that I notice or care about.
I also do quite a bit of traveling, so the thinner, lighter design and longer battery are of major benefit to me.
I’d rather put my money towards an air then a pro, and I am in the majority.
I have absolutely no reason to lug around an extra pound of computer just because… well… it’s only an extra $200
No, I didn’t ignore the weight. If that’s your primary concern, then buy the MacBook M1 Air. Because $200 is still $200, to use your words. And in percentages, that’s a MUCH bigger difference than the $100 difference between the m2 air and the 14” pro. And I noticed you used % to talk about weight but in actual terms .7 lbs not a big deal for people who care about performance.

As for aesthetics, if vanity is your primary motive for buying a laptop, then sure, by all means buy the crippled M2 Air. Like you said, what do I care?

What I do care about is Apple crippling its machines and falsely advertising them. There’s a serious breach of trust not to mention it’s unethical. And like you said, there are a lot of people naively spending $200 more for a machine that is slower than the M1 Air in many real world scenarios. They may be happy initially, but I can guarantee you, if they ever learn the facts, many of them will be very unhappy… and over 70% of users buy the base model, not the upgraded model Apple shadily gave to reviewers.

… and over 70% of users buy the base model, not the upgraded model Apple shadily gave to reviewers.

That really is a bunch of bunk from Apple..
Apple just wanted to avoid the talk about the halving of the SSD speeds

They should give reviewers base models if they really stand behind their base model offerings.

(The base models are mostly about price point hitting and setting things up for overpriced upgrades of SSD/RAM)

The notch should never have become a thing on laptops. It's ugly enough on phones. Just give us more bezel and use the extra space to extend battery life.

Also, the 25% price increase over the notchless M1 Air (in the UK) is unjustified, considering the minuscule performance increase. Judging by reviews, Apple has also exaggerated the screen brightness of the M2 Air.

you're bashing iJustine, but are the these two dudes from MacRumors any better? to me they all seem clueless, iJustine is at least decent looking

I myself couldn't bother watching ANYTHING featuring the super-annoying and super-shallow iJustine so I can't really comment on this video. Nevertheless, I do remember cases where - to tell the truth - MR editors did prove to be pretty much clueless. See https://forums.macrumors.com/thread...-an-older-iphone-its-time-to-upgrade.2314868/

And can you believe she held up an old second-generation MBA when talking about the original one... talk about shallow knowledge. /sarcasm
Oh come on... I've several times linked to her Tim Cook interview where she has PROVED she knows nothing of even the very basics of camera technology. And that's only one example of how shallow her "knowledge" is.

Yes, she's a great showperson (for people that can put up with her style), but nothing else.

EDIT: change: his -> her

So what. Was she doing an in-depth camera review or was it a general conversation? Has she every pretended like she has technical knowledge of cameras? At least she is honest about her knowledge as she only speaks about technology as far as how she uses it. Besides, she hired someone a while back to handle the camera aspect of her show so there is even less reason for her to have "camera knowledge" beyond a basic understanding of how it applies to her workflow.

Look, some forum members here even repeatedly(!) state (along with accusing us being sexists because we dislike iJustine) she has a way better understanding of technology than us and this is why she is far more successful than we here at MR forums.

Yes - he has earned a lot of money by her "Oh great!!!!" Apple-b*ttlicking (and being pretty). But does that mean she's more knowledgeable than us? Hardly...

Congratulations, you know more about technology than iJustine. I don't recall her ever pretending that she has a deep technical understanding of the technology she uses; its always in the context of how she uses it.

No one is being accused of being sexist simply because they said they dislike iJustine. It's their publicly stated reasons for disliking her and/or dismissing her success that is being called sexist.
