IMO Justine was something different back when she started doing this, because cute tech nerd girls were not really a thing on the internet. Now they're dime a dozen. IMO she's well past her prime and I haven't watch a single video in many many years.
I’m sure she is crying all the way to the bank.

I'll way in on this Tech YouTubers vs The " overviewers". A old Boomer now, but I spent most of my career as GM technical trainer. back in 2006, GM expanded the training program. The new hires were the cheerleader types. Us old tech trainers had a service background, and actually technicians. They would read a "walk around" guide with fluff like new for this year color keyed mirror covers etc. If somebody asked them, " what's the towing capacity on this truck with 6.2 liter engine, with a 373 rear end ratio?" Often they would tell the sales people or service tech at the dealership." that's a good question! Ill get back to you!". Of course they never did, or called the old guys like me. After a couple of years, GM decided that the cheerleader types is what they wanted, all of "old Tech trainer were forced out. Times changed. I think the main issue here is nobody now a days really gets too deep into what's under the "hood" of the new M2 Air for their own real world experiences. Guess what I'm saying, ask somebody you know personally about your purchase, who has been a long time Apple user. Years ago there used to be a Apple user groups all over the country, but are gone now. Just don't take a popular YouTubers word as the gospel truth, do your own investigation on your purchase.

I didn’t realize running multiple apps and playing games isn’t intended for these base models. If it’s not crippled, tell me, how is it 50% slower than the 2 year old M1 Air in so many real world use cases? And why did Apple give reviewers upgraded models and not the base models?

My guess is because YouTubers, by the very nature of their work, would be an ill fit for the entry level MBA. One very common benchmark would be editing video (their bread and butter), and base storage would simply not suffice in this scenario.

And the people for whom the base model suffices (like teachers), you won’t hear of them online because it’s not their job to post in-depth product reviews on social media.

So what we end up seeing is really a case of selection bias.

Why don't you have your own review business?
I have a HUGE handicap: my mother tongue isn't English. I don't want to annoy anyone with my pronunciation - there are quite a few tech reviewers on YT that, while they deliver exceptional content (for example, Hugh Hou https://www.youtube.com/c/HughHouFilm/videos ), their pronunciation is very hard to put up with. (Therefore, I just switch off the audio and just read the transcript when watching Hou's videos. Which are, otherwise, absolutely excellent.) I don't want to be one of them and making people fun of my pronunciation. Therefore, i specialise in stuff NOT requiring me to utter a single word of English: 8mm / Super8mm historic archives and event shooting. It's not making me any money but I don't want / need money off YouTube either - I have a decent, well-paid job in a completely unrelated field.

And I bet the best of my 8mm archive uploads, in the long run, will prove to be WAY more valuable (precious) than anything iJustine every produces. My historic 8mm uploads will be watched even 20-50 years from on and will be still of value. (That's why I keep investing in tracking down private 8mm films like these and making them available for the entire world.) iJustine's videos? I really don't think so.

I'm still dumbfounded by the comment last night about Justine "flaunting" herself. I looked at the video interview posted here which I have to assume was where the "flaunting" was happening and I don't see it at all.

Is a woman just existing, now "flaunting" herself to some people?

and I'm told I am imagining sexism in this thread.
Right? I’ve never seen anyone here say anything remotely similar about any of the guys doing this same thing. I’ve seen people call her “pretty,” and “easy on the eyes,” also as if that’s the only reason she’s where she is.

There may be some legit negative feelings regarding this class of reviewer, for not being in depth as some would prefer, but these people are having a difficult time understanding who these reviews are aimed at.

I think there’s some clear sexism leveled against iJustine also, but even that’s besides the point. It’s just a low effort way of communicating something else.

The issue is jealousy. And not in the “I want what they have” type of a way, but more, “I can’t believe they were able to make this work. I could have done better, but I won’t, I just like saying I could,” kind of a way.

If you don’t think that someone like iJustine or any of these other reviewers you detest couldn’t have been the more in depth reviewer you wish they were, you’re fooling yourselves. They’re all obviously very capable, motivated and talented. They were able to see where the largest audience would be, and they’ve built their own brands around that with the talent they have. And they sure look like they’re all having fun too!

Not a single one of them would look at any of the comments here and feel down about what they’ve done. On the contrary, I bet they laugh for a half a second and then get on with their lives.

Why a weird way of looking at your life, and then comparing it to hers. Your videos will be "way more valuable (precious) than anything iJustine produces?" Ok, and? I don't think she's in the business of producing anything historical that she's hoping someone will regard as precious. In fact, I'd argue that people aren't regularly going back and watching review videos from machines that came out 10 years ago. That's not really her business, or what she, or any of the other reviewers that everyone regards so poorly here, does.

If you've got your thing, and you're happy, then let me assure you, a life with less sodium is a healthy one. Because those folks are happy. They're having a good time, they work for themselves, they enjoy what they do, and as a bonus, they get sent a lot of free stuff that enables them to do what they do.

If you don't like what any of them have to say, just move on and focus on the reviews you do care about.

I'm enjoying the debate, but for the life of me I can't figure out why a person would be motivated to spend so much time talking about something they don't like online. Personally I'm excited about the air, I enjoyed watching iJustine's video and I'm looking forward to receiving mine in the next week or two.

I respect what she does, but I do wish she would see the flaws and not think everything is amazing, even talking about the studio display she said I love that display and there isn't any issues, she just can't ever say one thing is bad, that's why she can't be trusted for reviews
That’s because she’s in bed with Apple.

As if Miani isn’t a huge apple shill lol
He's been tweeting about the MacBook Air throttling "issue" so I fail to see how he is a shill either. I feel like people use the word "shill" if a person isn't 100% of the time negative about a company. A true shill would never say anything bad about the company and would not even hint at it.

Since when was anyone claiming she was putting up historic content. I doubt she or Rene or Linus or Jarrod or any other big name tech review person expects their content to be watched and admired 50 years from now.

First she was supposed to be an investigative journalist hitting up Tim Cook with hard hitting questions. And now she is supposed to be a historian.

And I notice you again focused on her when the same is true for other people in her field of work. It is personal for you for some reason.

There are actually people who believe Apple is electing to use a notch when they don't need to. Instead of realizing this camera requires more room than the thin bezel and thin lid would provide.
Here is the MBP notch array which clearly would not fit in the tiny bezels.

Someone will reply and say "The iPad Pro has a 1080p camera and the bezels are also thin" ignoring the thickness of the iPad Pro in comparison to the lid of the MBP/Air. Also the bezels aren't as thin anyway.

Yeah, two reason for that. The iPad is thick/deep enough to hold the Face ID array components and its bezels are twice the size of the MBP which is why it its array fits inside the bezels.

Why do people keep pointing out the new M2 Air is "it’s thinner and lighter". The difference is practically insignificant, and if anything it 'feels' thicker when you type on it because the front edge is now a lot higher.
