The MacRumors Show: M2 MacBook Air First Impressions ft. iJustine

Why do people keep pointing out the new M2 Air is "it’s thinner and lighter". The difference is practically insignificant, and if anything it 'feels' thicker when you type on it because the front edge is now a lot higher.
You can't have it both ways Ric, saying that you wont notice it because the difference is insignificant contradicts your saying that you will notice it because the front is thicker.

The M2BA almost a pound lighter than the 14" Pro which is in no way an insignificant difference. As far as the thickness difference (the MBA is as thick as the 14" MBP without its display) I think you will notice it if your bag is packed with other stuff.

They are reviews. Just because they don't go in depth enough for you doesn't make them something else.
I think perhaps the point was missed. They are not just “reviews.” They are sponsored reviews in that if these “reviewers” say overly negative things about the product they will never be asked to “review” again.

MKBHD has said negative things a bunch of times about new Apple releases and yet he continues to do reviews. How do you explain that one?

Which is largely irrelevant since the people who buy computers to review just return them before 15 days has passed. All of them are getting free computers in one way or another.

What is there to be overly negative about with the M2Air or any of the Apple Silicon computers? Its only real flaws are its cost and the speed of the base SSD. Both of these things she mentioned, she didn't say too much about the 256 because she didn't have a 256 to review. She even said that the 14" Pro is good alternative to the 16/512 Air unless you want the Air's size benefits and aren't bothered by the single external display. Do you really think Apple isn't going to send her a computer to review if she posted and discussed someone else's SSD benchmark?

That's an Apple problem, not a reviewer problem, and still I didn't miss any point. They are reviewing product from a company that generally makes really high quality product with few misses. As the other dude just pointed out to you, I've seen all of them hit on negative points through different reviews, and yet they're still reviewing.

Rest assured that if anyone wants the most negative take one could possibly have on a newly released Apple product they can hit up the Macrumors forums and receive the lethal dose of sodium they're after.

MR land is definitely not a good place for a newbie to try and find balance after a release, unless one is a good swimmer above the frey. I agree with you. This place is usually tipped to the negative about the most mundane of points. Take this thread for instance. Instead of talking performance and real life application, people have spent needless hours talking about Justine.

I agree. But I think FaceID will need a notch. Apple might as well get us used to the notch right from the jump with the re-design.
What's funny is that now that I'm used to the new menubar height, the old-style menubar on my 2014 MBP looks cramped to me. I agree that Apple will get Face ID on the MBPs at some point, but even the current, physical webcam array required it.

Apple talking points I suspect ..

The front edge being higher has ruined it as a traditional "Air" to me.

The wedge form factor and front edge super low to the deck was a really key part of it being the "Air" (for me anyhow)

I just love M2 Macbook Air's flat square design. Very similar to those 2018 16" Macbook Pro. That tappered old design was ok but this new design is just right.

I wonder if iJustine (who, according to some forum members (fans of her), knows a LOT more about technology than any of us "haters") has already learnt the basics of camera technology... the "great" reviewer, who's better than any of us, ha...

My guess is, even if she is not able to rattle off a list of specs, she would still be capable of filming and editing a better quality video than many people here.

And that’s what really matters at the end of the day. Less focus on raw specs, and more emphasis on the end user experience.

Very easily. There are different levels/thresholds of criticism that can be levied at Apple products. MKBHD never crosses the line.

Because it literally is. No matter how it may feel to you, the dimensions and weight show it is thinner and lighter compared to the M1 Air.
I believe you missed what I said about the difference being insignificant, right? It would be like BMW boasting their new car was 1 WHOLE POUND LIGHTER. (But had a much chunkier front end so looked a lot bigger)

Yes, you are 100% correct. One pound is insignificant on something which weighs as much as a car.

I love how the same mindset** that argued that the 16" MBP was a massive boat anchor compared to the 14" now think that obvious weight savings don't matter when selecting a laptop.

**These are the people who chose the 14" over the 16" despite the price difference being the same as the M2Air to the 14" Pro. If you suspect this applies to you, it probably does.

I'd rather gouge my eyes out with a rusty nail than watch any recent video from iJustine. She is a marketing tool who plays an online character so superficial and dumb that it's hoped you won't possibly consider the possibility that she is a paid shill, and therefore you will just as innocently believe everything she says. EDIT: IRL I have no doubt she is a highly intelligent and skilled marketeer, just to make that clear. It's just a carefully-crafted online character.
