I believe you missed what I said about the difference being insignificant, right? It would be like BMW boasting their new car was 1 WHOLE POUND LIGHTER. (But had a much chunkier front end so looked a lot bigger)
Well the weight difference is slightly more significant relative to the total weight of the laptop. A BMW weighs a lot more than one pound so of course one pound there isn’t noticeable. You also don’t lift and carry a BMW. I’m not sure if i would notice the weight difference of the Air or not since i haven’t held the new one yet.

Whether you like it or not or notice the weight difference, it is just a fact that it is thinner and lighter compared to the M1 version. It doesn’t need to be significant to be a fact.

Did Apple say "Significantly thinner and lighter". I missed it if so. You seem to have added "significance" into it on your own to try and prove a point.

Sells products to people who think she's so dumb she can't possibly be a biased shill. It's clever and I expect it works very well.
I think it's sad that the people here are so overwhelming negative towards Apple that they cannot seem to accept the notion of anyone liking their products and genuinely being excited over them.

She's genuinely exited about seeing the Welcome screen which she's seen at least 300 times. She's a marketing tool there just to sell products to the gullible. That doesn't mean I dislike Apple. I just dislike her character.

I met iJustine a few years ago at MacWorld, when it was still a thing. Super nice person and took the time to chat. I've got nothing but good things to say about her, even if the influencery persona isn't everyone's thing.

So many people here keep chanting "most people would not even notice" as if that should be the new motto.

Before: Think Different. It Just Works!

Now: Shhh. Most people would never notice.
Apple could take a dump in a bag, stamp the Apple logo on it, and these people defending the crippled M2 machines would still go out and buy it and find ways to rationalize their purchase.

In any standard annual update, one would expect the price to remain the same while several aspects of the machine to receive improvements. Extreme improvements might justify an increased price.

Here the base M2 receives several incremental improvements, but one essential aspect actually got worse compared to the M1. The difference is significant, noticeable, measurable, and permanent.

So I'd expect the price to be at least $100 less than the base M1, but they actually increased the price.

I'm not buying it, not because it is "crippled" but because I don't need a new laptop at this time. But guess what, you don't have to buy it either. I really don't get the people getting fired up about a product they aren't forced to buy in the first place.

Is it even a full 0.1 of a pound difference do we know? With some rounding down and rounding up it might be only perhaps 0.01 of a pound. If it's a weight difference so minor the majority of humans couldn't discern it, I'd say it isn't worth mentioning, wouldn't you?

I'd say it is basic good marketing to mention it. Any reputable company would say "thinner and lighter" when the facts back it up, regardless of how minute the difference is.

Some people have so little going on in their lives, and desperately crave the feeling of being influential, despite having little to offer in that department. So they develop contrarian views with no basis in reality to feel like they figured out the real truth - the one that's purposefully hidden from everyone - and they want to be the first to tell you.

Agreed. I see why Apple mention it. I was talking about the posters on here (excluding sycophantic fans- I see why they would).

Yes and no.

I was watching this hour-long video by this YouTube called Ali Abdaal, who was explaining how he succeeded as a YouTuber, and one of his points was to not be afraid to lean into their (unfair) advantages. In other words, make full use of some "privilege" you enjoy which the rest of the competition may not to get ahead, and don't apologise for it.

A pretty face always helps at the start when you are trying to stand out in what is a very saturated field (tech reviews). But I don't think people are going to stick around and continue to support you by watching your content if they weren't any good.

Every YouTube is going to need a gimmick to draw in the audience. In iJustine's case, she's a (fairly attractive) female in a heavily male-dominated field, and I like that she brings something different to the equation. She doesn't go about tech videos in the same staid manner that other male YouTubers do. She dresses and acts pretty conservatively (you can't really accuse her of relying overtly on sex appeal - it's not like she poses seductively next to a Mac Studio in a bikini or something). She may not be an expert in hardware specs the same way someone like Linus may be (and I will argue that past a certain point, it doesn't matter because I can get that content from another tech YouTuber), and she probably won't last 5 seconds in a debate with Louis Rossman, but she still uses her tech to get work done, and I don't feel like she's faking her enthusiasm when it comes to Apple products.

So I watch her videos in addition to other YouTubers like MKBHD, Dave2D and Everyday Dad, and I am glad they each have their own style, and none try to imitate one another.

So yes, her attractiveness may have contributed to her success, and I see so reason for her to be defensive or apologetic about it, and I don't see anything "unfair" about this.
That's a great. You will need some talent to keep it going, but the looks will get you in the door easier. Same thing with dating. A good looking person thats an ***** won't keep partners for long. But the good people with the mediocre to bad looks will have almost zero opportunities.

Yeah this thread has been good for that. Apparently if you mention new Apple gear and a woman in the same post, there's a perfect storm of toxicity in the comments.
That’s easily the most ridiculous thing I’ve read today. Probably all week. So congratulations for that at least.

How dare this woman have the audacity to review things her way and build an audience based on that! Doesn't she know that the denizens of the Macrumors forums have expectations of her?
