Yes, quality is often heavier than cheap junk. If you had ever held a Rolex (which I doubt), you would know that the quality is instantly obvious from the weight. The first time I picked up an iPhone 5, I instantly knew I didn't want such a junky-feeling phone. Then the 5c came out and I could finally upgrade my iPhone 4 to something that actually felt like a quality product. Again, you have no sense of "taste".

It's fancier plastic and drop tests have shown it's less durable than the 5s.

So are you ragging on so one because of what they want? Also what drop test are you referring to? Android authority? Did you see the way the 5c landed compared to the 5s? Also did you see the 5s screen after just one drop? I think the verdict is still out on that one ... Also have you seen the test where the guy takes the hammer to the 5c? Seems pretty durable to me I would say. The fact is an iPhone is an iPhone ... People getting the 5c is going to upgrade to an iphone 6 next year. Is the 5c a phone that will make it for a year? Yes and by this time next year you will still hardly see a difference in everyday performance between it and the 5s. It's there choice to get the phone they want not yours.
As of right now we don't know what the sales figures were for both phones because Apple has not told us, but Ming is a reliable analyst who says they were pretty even ... There's other analysts that says 3 to 1 for the 5s. Does it matter? No it don't
I dislike the design of the iPhone 5 and 5s, I like the simple plastic design of the 5c! I would have the opportunity to upgrade for free, but I just love my iPhone 4s and I might only sell the iPhone 5s and spend the money for a upcoming iPhone 6 or iPad.

You should buy whatever makes you happy, not buy phones to impress others.
If apple users did that to start with, the amount of hateful android users would be getting alot more wins.
However, that being said, personally I hate the iphone 5c's use in plastic.
They could of easily gone for composite wood, which is colourful, cheap, more ecofriendly and recyclable and classy, maybe even more so than a metal phone.
And finally, you can always wait to find a iphone 5c case, which will make it look identical to almost all other iphone 5's.

Obviously, different strokes, as they say ... but I am an adult male that works in a professional environment. I cannot imagine being taken seriously with a yellow, green or pink phone. Blue is borderline, but white is truly the only choice of 5c that I would even remotely consider. If the colors had been more subdued, maybe, but the colors just do not scream mature professional.
