I have messed around with hackintosh' before (about 3 years ago), but I've heard things in the OSx86 world have improved massively since then so may give it a go...
Some of the current DVD's already have Graphics Divers for "all" supported ATI and NVidia cards on board, if you did it 3 years before i do not think you will have difficulty's now,

I would say though, that this would only ever be as a temporary move until I get an iMac or Mac Pro (would only buy one just as they're updated so could be waiting til Jan 09)
If Apple brings out a "MidTower" that is more or less comparable to my own build machine with say about a +200€ Price tag i would consider buying an "original" too... but before this happens my Hack is not temporary.

True that. My hackintosh is my main machine. Even above my MacBook. Mostly because I wanted the flexability of a tower, and could not afford a Mac Pro (or need one).

My new toy :D

ok having the wierdest problem..

when i turn on my hacked computer, the screen is blue, as if its on the loading screen..

however, if i got onto my MBP and open remote desktop i can log into it and see the screen!!!! how bizarre!!!

yes i have changed res's and refresh rates right down to 640*480.

ive reinstalled with the same drivers as i normally use (8500GT so i use the nvidia 512mb thingo). im running aitkos v4 which is the latest one.. pretty confused
Take a look at NVKush for a graphics driver. Also, depending on your chipset, check out the opensource Realtek 1000 driver for ethernet.

Yeah, the entry level Quad Core Mac Pro.

2.4GHz Core 2 Quad Intel processor o/c'd to 3.0GHz
4GB 800MHz DDR2 RAM
SATA DVD Burner
3 500GB Sata Hard Drives
GeForce 8600GT 256MB

I have my 20" Apple Cinema Display hooked up to one DVI port and my Panasonic 1080P projector hooked up in the other for the living room. I have JBL Creature speakers hooked up to my analog sound port for desktop speakers and I have my home theater system connected to it via on board optical.

It is basically my bedroom computer as well as my home theater computer since it is now permanently connected to my devices.

Would I reccommend this computer to someone? Only if you can build one because if you can build one then you are smart enough to figure out all the problems that come with a Hackintosh. I wouldn't want to build one and then give it to my parents as a true Mac cause there are just too many small things to tinker with. I love my new toy but I would still rather have a Mac Pro under my desk.

^ "still rather have a Mac Pro" same man who wouldnt! theyre so sexy and 4/8 core Xeons would be awesome. but theyre just a bit too expensive for me.

what mobo do you have? because thats pretty much the deciding factor on how compatible your hack will be.

Is there such thing as an "flawless" Hackintosh (without any problems and is built like a real Mac)?

^ mmm probably not. one might think he/she has a perfect hackintosh thats as fast as and as stable a real Mac until a software or firmware update comes along and screws it up.

Actually it'd be a little faster, since it's using DDR2 instead of FB-DIMM RAM. Plus, you've got it OC'ed.

I've got a hackintosh built with a 2.66 Ghz Q9450, with 8GB DDR2-1066 of RAM, 2 TB HD space, 8800GTX, Gigabyte EP35-DS3L Motherboard, and Antec 300 case. Not OC'ed though...Although my temps are really low for me to OC, 25C idle and 35C load. Running super stable. It's become my After Effects rendering machine, while my Mac Pro for real work.

Yeah, and I think mine might be getting too hot  I need better air flow lol

Airflow isn't the only factor. If you use the stock Intel cooler, replacing the grey gooky wax on the bottom with some "real" thermal compound will do wonders. But then replacing the stock cooler with one that can provide more effective heat-transfer, is an even better solution.

My case won't allow me to use a non-stock fan on the CPU. It won't close if I do. It is a PowerMac G4 case after all ;)

Agree, that's a factor. But a full-height PCI card is about 4.25" inches in height, the G4 cooler about 2.5" in height, and the G4 cases I've seen provide at least that much clearance. That's about the same clearance as a mini-ATX provides. Third-party coolers come in different heights, and many aren't much taller than the stock Intel cooler/fan, and you can also buy low-profile coolers low enough to fit in a 1u rackmount case.

anyone have ever tried leopard on a p4p800-e deluxe?
with a p4 3.2e
3gb of dr 400
msi fx 5900 xtx 128mb
sound blaster audigy se or value not sure yet

I would say yes. I'm doing quite a few things with my machine that the average hackintosh user wouldn't do. So technically for my most people my machine is flawless. Now when a Mac OS X update comes out that is a different story.

I must wait and let other people analyze it. Some updates can be installed cause they don't replace the kernel. Other updates must be hacked and released to the community to prevent future problems.

Either way, if problems occur you can't solve them by the traditional ways. Many things will involve the terminal, playing with the messy part of Darwin, deleting extensions, modifying EFI strings and plist files. It's not fun but people have been making boot disks that take all the hard work out of it. Put the disk in, click a few buttons and let it install away.

Also, for anyone wondering, I used a Gigabyte GA-EP35C-DS3R motherboard. Gigabyte is the only motherboard company I purchase from and it happened to be in this case one of the most compatible manufacturers for the OSX86 project.

well that kinda sucks considering i have a beastly zalman 9700 fan :p right now i'm using a makeshift case from a 10-year-old HP! (it even has an authentic Intel Inside Pentium II sticker on it) i want a nice g5 case, but they're kinda expensive...

how is the 9700? how quiet would you say it is and can you take the blue LED out of it?

I have the 9700, and it's virtually silent. I'm using a Zalman fan controller on the lowest fan speed. :D If you use the Fan Mate controller that comes with it at the lowest fan speed, then it'll probably be just as "silent".

My temps are 30 idle and 40 load with my quad. BUT, I've got an Antec Three Hundred case, so there's a lot of airflow. I used to have an Antec Nine Hundred with it, but I decided to get the Three Hundred because it's got the air filters in the front. The Nine Hundred sucks because of the massive collection of dust; no fan filters in the front... :(

thanks. so get the Zalman fan controller but which one? can you control the fan speed in OSx86 or only by hardware?
