Hmm, a nice Friday night story:

http://www.appleinsider.com/article...l_to_avoid_trial_in_open_computer_tussle.html

I think Apple's really nervous about PsyStar's approach. They have a lot to lose if it becomes an antitrust issue.
Caveman, on the Project OSX86, most of the motherboards listed are old and hard to find. How does one check out the compatibility of the newer motherboards for the Hackintosh project?
My original Hackintosh is working great, but I want to build another one.

Pretty much anything with an Intel P35/45 chipset on it should work.

If I didn't have my iMac I'd love to build a quad core beast. I've found I can have a beautifully running machine for a grand that is twice as powerful in all regards as my iMac.

I think your best bet is to search the insanelymac web site for the boards you're interested in. I'm waiting for a micro-ATX 775 with the NVidia 9400 chipset and optical audio out. Then I'll be building a second one, too.

Is that mobo available as a desktop and at what cost?
What about a video driver?
Are there video drivers for the integrated 4500 video for Hackintosh yet?

It's here.

Anyone have a quick suggestion for a Gigabyte P45 board?

GA-P45-DS3R I have it works great pretty much everything but the sound works out of the box as they say and if wanting Time Machine to work you need a fixed IONetworkingFamily for that there are only cosmetic patches needed for everything else aside from video cards obviously.

I was hoping for the cheaper 'L' variants. I'll just wait for some discounts on them after i7 launch. NewEgg is running a mail-in rebate as well.

The same chipset aside from the audio is used on them so it will be the same idea just a different patch needed for it.

If the R is more compatible I'll just spare the extra cash for it then.

They are equally compatible you just need a different patch for the audio the main thing with the R model is you get working firewire ports and an extra nic which like me you will probably never use and the audio is supposed to be improved but with a Hack only getting 2.1 sound it really is no difference for us, I got mine because I needed the firewire for my Griffin FireWave to have 5.1 sound.

I do like my FireWire port but 2.1 audio is fine for me. Thanks for clearing that up.

I might just go with the L then since I'm looking for something cheap. My primary goal is just to replace my Gigabyte G31 board.

How does your Gigabyte G31 board work for you? I have been considering getting one like that. The integrated graphics are OK for me. What patches did you need?

What do you guys think of the psystar open pro? What is that machine comparable to for a mac? I noticed c-net compares it to an imac. What's up with that?

I'm not using it for a hackintosh. It works just fine as a cheap overclocking board though with my Q6600.

Is the 9300 effectively the same as the 9400 chipset?
The 9300 is just a slower clocked 9400.

FYI:

Looks like NewEgg has a 775 10.5.5 compatible mobo on sale for $100. This board checks out on the osx86 HCL and only needs the audio patch. Order code is EMCBBBEBJ.
I'll take a look at this deal.

The price is now $109. Must have gone up. I checked the OSX86 HCL, but there is very little about it. Sounds like a good mobo. If I knew more about the compatibility, I would probably get it. What GPU card would work best? I do not need more than 256MB, probably not that much.
