The price is now $109. Must have gone up. I checked the OSX86 HCL, but there is very little about it. Sounds like a good mobo. If I knew more about the compatibility, I would probably get it. What GPU card would work best? I do not need more than 256MB, probably not that much.

8600gt !!! :) (not 8500 though, its too hard to initially setup)

It looks good except I found a lot of complaints about heat.

I guess I would prefer integrated graphics to keep the heat down. The board that Cave Man likes might be just the ticket, but there might be a problem getting it to work as a Hackintosh this early.

Like anything it is all about the chipsets on the motherboard them being pretty much identical to the ones on mine right now I can tell you it should be able run without problems, for a video card if your looking for a cheap one then try a Nvidia 7300.

FYI:

Looks like NewEgg has a 775 10.5.5 compatible mobo on sale for $100. This board checks out on the osx86 HCL and only needs the audio patch. Order code is EMCBBBEBJ.
After reading about the ASUS P5N7A-VM LGA 775 NVIDIA GeForce 9300/nForce 730i HDMI Micro ATX Intel Motherboard, I like it.
If we can find the graphics drivers, it would make my ideal Hackintosh.

I really prefer integrated graphics. See my post to Cave Man. I wonder how long it will be before someone gets that mobo working as a Hackintosh?

Heat problems? From a 8600gt? I'm running a 8600gt in a micro-ATX case with an 2.53 Ghz C2D overclocked to 3.3 Ghz and with just one under-volted 90 mm case fan my case temperatures stay in the 24 to 28 degrees Celsius range.

keep in mind that the x3100 doesnt run on a hackintosh, i have checked and checked but couldnt find anything. i dont know about the x1300's or the newer x4500s (i think its called this) though.

Any card will run hot if it has a crappy cooling fan. Here's the idle, average, and peak system power consumption for various graphic cards. The 8600gt only draws 177 watts (peak). Several manufacturers made "silent" versions of the 8600gt that ran cool even without a fan, but they were usually underclocked a bit.

NewEgg has recertified EVGA GeForce 8800 GS 384MB cards for $63 -- really great bang per buck for a Hackintosh compatible card.

I used the iDeneb 1.3 distro last night to reinstall OSx86 on my machine and it worked beautifully! Even easier than Kalyway the first time around :)

Hey I really want to buy that card, but I don't see anywhere that it has been CONFIRMED to work 100%. Do you have experience with this one?

Why did you reinstall OSX86 if you had already done it with Kalyway?

What makes iDeneb better/easier? I have not heard much about it.

Well I was looking at how hard it would be to upgrade to 10.5.5 from 10.5.4 and it looked like a lot of work, so I backed up all my stuff and decided to be brave with a new distro. A lot of the most recent patches were included and it starts at 10.5.5 right off the bat

It was even easier than Kalyway was the first time around. Feels a little more stable for some reason too.

Maybe the whole thing where when you wash your car it seems to run better lol

Which distro is the one for 10.5.5?
Did you download with a Windows, a Mac or a Hackintosh? What software did you use to burn the DVD?

iDeneb v1.3

I downloaded with my mac, but it makes no difference, it's an ISO file

I used Disk utility to burn, but you can use anything. Try imgburn for Windows, just be sure to burn it at like 2x (real slow)

Well I ordered that 8800GS, so we'll see how it goes :D

Almost 1000 replies to this thread! I'd say this makes a very solid case for creating a MR subforum for non-Apple Macs. This would include all the hackintosh stuff, the psystar, and anything else like that.

why oh why are you not using the boot-132 method?

I asked them to a long time ago, but I got a no due to the potential illegality of it or something lol

Haven't looked into it, what's the difference? How complicated is it?

<EDIT: I would have used multi-quotes if duke's post had existed before I started writing my first post :)>

well here's what i used for reference. maybe it will help you out

for boot-132 (method i recommend as you use a retail dvd and get a clean install)

pretty much it lets you install osx from the retail dvd and allows you to do updates hassle free

alot like efix but free

wow that is very cool (as in sweet). now if they only brought the price down to a level where i could buy it ($10 hahahaha).

i have a question.

what is the recommended hackintosh install method/iso image??

i used iAtkos v4 to install, ive heard a lot about the kalway and iDeneb v1.3. i had a little bit of trouble with the graphics card but sorted it out eventually using the iatkos method. what makes iDeneb v1.3 so good??
