Yeah, I saw it on the HCL, but how do you edit the DeviceIDs into the kexts? I was just hoping someone had made a posting about how to do it :)

I'd think it should work without modification with Apple's Leopard graphics update, which I believe was part of the 10.5.3 update. I'll know more in 2-3 business days. ;)

Hi guys,

I'll start with my specs.
Desktop
Mobo: Gigabyte 965P-DS4
CPU: Intel Q6600 Quad
GPU: Gigabyte 8800GTS

Laptop
Sony VGN-C25

Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor T5500 (1.66GHz1)
1GB DDR2 Ram
80GB
Geforce Go 7400
80GB SATA HDD
13.3 WXGA display with XBRITE-ECO™ Technology
Wireless LAN: Intel® PRO/Wireless 3945ABG (802.11a/b/g4)
bluetooth
Vista Home Premium

From my research, i've come up with either iDeneb or Kalyway but which would be the better way to go, if i can go at all?

Many thanks,

Totti

Just caught wind of this board over at the Plex forums. If it can be hackintoshed, the Mini is dead in the water, AFAIC.

  • Micro-ATX form factor
  • Intel 775 cpus
  • NVidia 9400
  • PCI x16
  • 5x 3 gbps SATA
  • DDR2-800 mHz (up to 16 gb)
  • 1333 mHz bus
  • DVI/HDMI/VGA
  • Optical audio
  • Gigabit ethernet
  • FW400
  • USB2

Micro-ATX? That's a lot to fit in that little package, amazing!

Also, I've used both Kalyway and iDeneb now, and either one is a good distro. I just liked iDeneb because it starts you at 10.5.5 and I'm too lazy to upgrade through the various versions from the Kalyway distro.

why oh why are you not using the boot-132 method?

I just used the type 11 method which is a custom 123 install for the DELL MINI9 and it worked like a champ. Running updates was no different then on my imac. Loving it.:D Best of all I used a new retail copy of Leopard so I can keep my conscious clean.;)

baha awsome!

got any linnks so i can find out more on how to install it for desktops?? im thinking of re-installing using my legal copy instead of iAtkos..

Really the easiest way since you already have a Mac/iAtkos install is just getting an external SATA enclosure to hook up to the drive you will put into the machine you want to run it in then install to it. Once done the install delete/rename the few .kext that need to be removed/not loaded then copy over the required files for it to boot put it in the machine or boot from the external at first to you get everything as you like then put it in the machine once you have it working well. Knowing the hardware in the machine would enable us to give you more specific advice on which would .kext be needed.

aahh now that is a smart way of doing it.

so i will use my leopard (legit) install disc to install onto the external sata drive from the hackintosh? or from another mac??

i already have a few external sata cases/drives so i might be set already :p

my setup:
• Gigabyte GA-G31M-S2L
• E4600 2.4ghz
• 8500 GT 512mb (this is probably the most difficult part to fix)
• 2gb 800mhz RAM

thats about it really...cant thnk of what else to add

Yep.

You just need a working install that will allow you to start the installer from a mounted OS X install disk/image so either will do, when I do it I use a copy of my install disk image I have on my hard drive that I mount then start the installer from it. Once mounted you need to open terminal then as root.

Code:
cd /Volumes/Mac\ OS\ X\ Install\ DVD/System/Installation/Packages
open OSInstall.mpkg

Go through the installer making your selections as you like it once completed if not using up to date installer install the 10.5.5 combo or delta update you can download from Apple.

Now to install the required .kext to boot/delete/rename you need to take ownership of the disk back.

Code:
/usr/sbin/vsdbutil -a /Volumes/whatever_you_named_the_install_partition

i already have a few external sata cases/drives so i might be set already :p

Seems like you are good to go then.

That is about all that is needed to know the graphics once done install you should be able to use the EFIStudio package for that and probably the audio and networking too. I am thinking all you should need to get it booting is the Chameleon boot loader, dsmos.kext and an AppleSMBIOSEFI-28 mac pro while deleting/renaming the AppleEFIRuntime.kext, AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext and AppleThermal.kext. If you want I can send the files I mentioned plus a couple of others for the ACPIPlatform for reboot/possible shutdown fix the IONetworkingFamily for time machine just PM me an email address that can accept attachments.

Hi guys, i went through the install process for ideneb 10.5.5 with these specs
Code:
Desktop
Mobo: Gigabyte 965P-DS4
CPU: Intel Q6600 Quad
GPU: Gigabyte 8800GTS

I made a partition using this method on vista
Code:
DISKPART> list disk
" This will show you a list of selectable disks. "
DISKPART> select disk n
[where n = the disk number]
This will specify which disk to create a new partition on
DISKPART> create partition primary size=n id=af
[where n = the size in MB of the partition, For 20 gb space n will be 20000 ]
[where af = hfs+ compatible]
Will proceed to create a bootable primary partition for the Mac
DISKPART> list partition
" This command will show you the partitions on your selected disk "
DISKPART> select partition n
[where n = the newly created OSX partition]
This will specify the partition
DISKPART> active
" This will make your OS X partition the first-boot active partition "
DISKPART> Exit
Exit from DiskPart...........

And ran the install as follows

1. Go to Disk Utility
2. Clicked on the partition i'd created, renamed partition, clicked erase
3. Closed disk utility, went back to main and installed to that partition
3. Install succesfully, rebooted, but doesn't show up when i reboot with ideneb in the drive, only ideneb.
4. If i click the ideneb installer, i notice 10 gb of space is missing from my partition, but when i click install it just does it over again
Am i doing something wrong? I left the customisation as is and just did a vanilla install. I also read something about creating a master boot record but i couldnt find the option.

Any help appreciated,

Totti

*Oh, and i should add* I have 3 HDD's.

One is a 150gb, with Windows Vista Partition
One is a 500gb, with media on it
One is a 1tb, with backups, and the OSX partition i created.

i would try customising the install, use an older kernel or something along the lines of that. my computer didnt like the newer kernel so i had to downgrade.

i also have a bootloader installed that came with the disc, you should try installing that from the customise menu.

Ok thanks i'll try again first with a different kernel i'll just select the top of the list.

Also, am i supposed to create a master boot record? Theres no tab on the menu for 'Partition' like a guide i read says.

Which kernel do you recommend?

For that board you can use vanilla kernel I had a 965P-DS3 at one time it worked fine using that. For your present situation I would suggest another SATA hard drive in the machine partitioned GUID to install OS X onto it is much easier and leads to less complications with the boot loader among other things then you can just use F12 key to select the drive to boot from.

To use the vanilla kernel i just don't select anything from the customisation yeah? Also, when you say get another SATA drive...I've got three, it's just that the 1tb drive is split ~900 for the windows backups, ~100 for my OSX partition.

When you say partitioned GUID, does that mean the steps i followed in vista were wrong?
Am i doing something wrong somewhere?

it doesnt sound like it!

like Mac said, hold down F12 and see if that does anything..

If you select a partition in diskutil then you get no option to partition the drive you need to select the drive itself to have that option. Once you have selected the drive and see the partition tab then there is an option button beneath the graphic display of the partition scheme in use clickimg on this gives you the chance to choose GUID, Apple, or MBR for the partition table that will be written to the drive before it is actually partitioned then formatted with your choices that were selected. I should mention in case you do not know partitioning then formatting a drive with information on it will result in the loss of that data.

Never used vista but I image that it is the same as all MS OS's in that when you partition then format a drive you always are using a MBR partition scheme.

Edit: I would add as well when installing these distro there is usually an option to install the boot loader to a MBR partitioned drive the default on the ones I have used is GUID so you need to go out of your way to find and select this or your install will not boot.
