Ok, thanks for pointing me to the right direction, i did not find the Q8x00 parts on my own. In my opinion the Q8x00 do not have enough Cache for keeping 4 cores fed, but it depends on everybody's usage if you really need it.

I never found overclocking a CPU in general to make a noticeable difference. Your biggest speed jumps normally come from RAM and video cards if you watch HD video or play games.
Would I:
OC a CPU - Never
OC a GPU - Always :p

Yeah, they're just too compromised.

A thousand or more mhz, sometimes. It's a hell of a lot cheaper than buying a stock CPU with a higher speed.

and can lead to premature processor failure, which will double your costs.

you also have to consider the cost of the increased wattage on an oc, although that may be so low it's insignificant I don't know.

As long as you don't go too crazy with the vcore it's not too much of a problem.

That's also why I sell computers when they still work. ;)

In any case, I am still trying to figure out how to get full hardware acceleration on my 3870X2. I have EFIStudio but don't know what do do with it.

Depends on how you overclock it if you do like I do and only go as far as you can get with the stock voltage then it is not really a whole lot as you can still have the C1E power saving working. If your crazy with putting the voltage to it then it is going to be more plus the chip will be running flat out all the time because once you change the voltage or multiplier the power saving does not work anymore.

Have you tried Osx86Tools? It can scan your hardware and install the appropriate driver/efi string if one exists.

I never OC. I'd rather not take the chance of killing my processor early in its life just to squeeze out a few mhz.

im sorry but thats just an immature statement, its not a few MHz, its often a few hundred or few thousand!

if you do it correctly there is nothing wrong with it, hell you could even liquid cool and have it running at 20°C at 5GHz or something crazy like that!

*imagines nitrogen cooling*

haha fair enough, mines about 10feet away but i dont normally hear it - im either listening to music or the fan is going..
When you're asleep?

I'm really trying for silent computer next time around. My 4830 is passive but at load I can hear my CPU fan.

the fan as in like a pedestal fan, it gets quite hot where i live.

i have an 8500, its kinda loud i guess.

TBH i can hardly even hear my computer(s) when i go to sleep.

ill post pictures later haha

Guys, I used OSX86Tools to install my EFI strings for the graphics card, but I don't seem to have CI or QE supported!

I am attempting to put Tiger on my Stock eee pc 900A. Usb thumb drive install without a USB DVD. So far the EEE will not recognize the thumb drive at boot, still working on it.

How did you set up the usb drive? Iirc, you can just copy it via disk utility and it will work. Dont quote me on that though. Why Tiger? Leo works from what i hear.

Im considering buying a hac, but im not good at pricing used pcs.
Specs:

4GB Corsair ddr2 (800mhz)
EVGA 8800 GTS 320mb
