1. Burn the ISO file to any +r or -r (i prefer +r)
2. boot from that disc
3. partition as HFS+ (MUST be HFS)
4. install standard installtion
5. if standard installation doesnt work, play around with stuff.
6. enjoy :)

That was my plan but all I get is the grey apple logo and then a kernel panic (black writing over the grey screen asking me to send a photo to voodoo or something?) before I get a chance to go and format the partition in hfs+

Thanks for replying. I'd love to get this working.

ah ok i see, why don't you try taking out the GPU (if you have an onboard GPU slot on your mobo that is).

i dont really see any other problems causing it

I don't think I do have onboard graphics. nforce4m-a (ecs).

It says something about it being read only? I'll try again and write down what it says.

most of it is jargon...

please contact voodoo kernel dev-team with info beloww

panci (cpu 1 caller 0x001a8ffd) kernel trap... jargon

BSD process nae correspondent to current thread: coreRAIDserver

I've not done the -v thing yet but I will in a bit.

OK, this is what it says also...

local host kextd[47] can't add repository (not a directory)

local host kextd[47] root filesystem is read only; skipping kernel link data generator

SAM Mulimedia READ or WRITE failed
disk2s2:I/O error

Nope. I have two HDs but not in RAID.

Somebody had a problem with their DVD drive apparently. I iget the grey apple screen so surely that isn't the problem?

16x dvd-r

I'll give it another go, just incase something happened first. What about efi and all that stuff? Is that all taken care of with teh iPC?

OK, the initial problem was caused by the disk. The second one started up, I formatted the partition, selected the things that I think I need (256mb nvidiainject thingy, appleforce wassit for the mobo and the voodoo 9.5.0 kernel), it said it was a successful install. I started up, saw teh grey apple screen and the spinning loading icon. Then, just as I thought the welcome screen was about to appear the screen just stays black. Nothing.

Any ideas?

Problem solved, I had to change dvi ports on the card.

Problem is that there are quite a few artifacts? I guess that is from the video card not having good drivers or something?

It doesn't seem like 3d acceleration is working or something.

EDIT: For anybody that might find this through google - this is how I solved the problem.

1. Install 9f23installer from scottangel (it might mean that you can only use your display at 1024x768 for a few minutes before doing step 2).

2. Download nvkush from the post below this and install it. Restart and it was fine.

Try installing nvKush, Politickle. I used it on my 8600gt and it worked perfectly.

Also, sorry about not replying to your pm, it seems like you got it though :p

That worked brilliantly. I think there is only two problems (on first inspection). The first is that any times I try to download a DMG I get a KP. The second is that there is no 'about this mac' data at all.

Any ideas?

Everything bar the 'about this mac' is working perfectly as far as I can tell, you've all been a great help, thanks guys. It is running really quickly, too.

I can live without the about this mac screen - clicking it logs me out and then back in.

download the seatbelt.kext for the kp on opening a dmg issue

Just to clarify, the Seatbelt.kext is needed because you are using the Voodoo Kernel. This kernel is required because you are on an amd cpu. The is kernel is based off the 9.5 kernel from apple, which is from 10.5.5. If you have 10.5.6 installed then you have a seatbelt that doesnt match your kernel, causing a panic every time you try to mount a dmg.

This is the only thread i could find that dealt with that issue and Leopard. It was common in Tiger and has an easy patch, but it doesnt happen much is Leo from what i see.

To be honest, I feel I can live with the 'about this mac' problem. It is something I never use anyway.

Any idea on how to resize the mac partition and shrink the windows partition from inside OSX?

no sorry, im not aware of any applications that can do this. norton partition magic seems to be fairly reliable with it however.

Cheers, I'll give it a go. The main problem I had is that despite having 150gb free on my windows partition vista won't strink it any more than it already has. I found a guide on a site and I'm trying their steps.

If not I'll just give partition magic a shot.

In trying to resize the partition it has corrupted the drive. It won't boot into the windows partition and disk util won't mount it so I can pull some of the data off. Any way I can force mount it?

I've got one piece of work on there that I really need.

If your disk is formatted with a GUID partition table you can do it with Disc Utility. Its probably MBR if you had windows installed first (i always do MBR anyway, guid always screws up my mbr) so you will have to use one of the apps the other gentlemen suggested. I use Hiren's Boot CD for most of this stuff though, its an incredibly handy cd to keep with you.
