Ugh, looks like it's going to be same ****, different year for the Cardinals' bullpen. If it wasn't because of Yadi's grand slam in the 9th, we might have lost this one
F the Yankees, F the Red Sox, F the Cubs, and Go Cardinals!![]()
The way Beckett pitched last night I would say the Red Sox over paid. Lester is probably the only true ace they have.Beckett signed a 4 year 68 million extension.
Sox now have a top 3 of Beckett, Lester, Lackey signed through 2014.![]()

I watched the phillies today, they really looked good, Halladay had a great game, and their batting lineup is stellar. Even Halladay had 2 hits and an RBI single.
The Phils lineup is freak'n dirtyWill see what Cole "whiny little bitch" Hamels brings to the table on Wednesday
Baseballs back in Philly...
Peace
Honestly, the 2009 playoffs was some of the worst umping I have ever seen in my entire life... They have no room for comment. I have seen little league umps do better. Inconsistent strike zone, plays that were totally obvious that weren't called (the two guys off third base and both of them get tagged play but one of them was safe, Joe Mauer's hit where it was atleast 10 feet inside the foul line called foul), were just a couple big examples I remember.
If the Umps want the game sped up then don't allow the pitcher or batter to step out 10 times an at bat.
Yankees Red Sox games take on a life of their own, they go so long because both teams hit a ton and there is a lot of strategy. I love a good 6 hour Yankee Red Sox game. The thing is, do the fans who watch the Red Sox and Yankees play care that their games last ~4 hours? I don't care.
Frankly, why do they expect two of the best teams of baseball would make the game go faster? Two good teams would make it go slower because the game would go back and forth.
Rule 6.02(b) Comment: The batter leaves the batter’s box at the risk of having a strike delivered
and called, unless he requests the umpire to call “Time.” The batter is not at liberty to step in and out of
the batter’s box at will.
Once a batter has taken his position in the batter’s box, he shall not be permitted to step out of the
batter’s box in order to use the resin or the pine tar rag, unless there is a delay in the game action or, in the
judgment of the umpires, weather conditions warrant an exception.
Umpires will not call “Time” at the request of the batter or any member of his team once the pitcher
has started his windup or has come to a set position even though the batter claims “dust in his eyes,”
“steamed glasses,” “didn’t get the sign” or for any other cause.
Umpires may grant a hitter’s request for “Time” once he is in the batter’s box, but the umpire
should eliminate hitters walking out of the batter’s box without reason. If umpires are not lenient, batters
will understand that they are in the batter’s box and they must remain there until the ball is pitched. See
Rule 6.02(d).
The following two paragraphs are additional material for Rule 6.02(b) Comment, for Major League
play only:
If pitcher delays once the batter is in his box and the umpire feels that the delay is not justified he
may allow the batter to step out of the box momentarily.
If after the pitcher starts his windup or comes to a “set position” with a runner on, he does not go
through with his pitch because the batter has stepped out of the box, it shall not be called a balk. Both the
pitcher and batter have violated a rule and the umpire shall call time and both the batter and pitcher start
over from “scratch.”
If the batter intentionally leaves the batter’s box and delays play, and none
of the exceptions listed in Rule 6.02(d)(1)(i) through (viii) applies, the
umpire shall award a strike without the pitcher having to deliver the pitch.
The ball is dead, and no runners may advance. The umpire shall award additional strikes, without the pitcher having to deliver the pitch, if the batter remains outside the batter’s box and further delays play.

Sabathia came 4 outs from a no hitter.
