Only had mine a few days but reception seems to be about the same as what I had with my Qualcomm iPhone X. I drive some rural back roads on my way to and from work with less than great signal and haven’t noticed any difference in reception so far.

why do you think our carriers keep raising our bill! They don’t take away cell towers they keep adding as the years go on!
In response to your post:
5G will make ur bad areas much better! It’s almost here
I do agree that carriers are raising prices for no justifiable reason. My service is very limited in my geographical location with LTE being sketchy at best. But I can tell you 5G is a cluster flop at this stage of the game. It's going to be a while before it's perfected and available to the masses.

I have significant building penetration issues, where I work. They have been largely the same with the X, XS MAX and Pro 11 Max. This has been a continuing issue for me. My X had the Qualcomm modem. Made no difference for my work location.

Same here with my office, it's a brick building, we do have a 4G repeater inside but it's still useless. Luckily I can WIFI's great inside.

how is the call quality of the iphone pro on both ends in low and good reception area's ?

I think users should also include their carriers, iOS version and models (Qualcomm & Intel) to make a better comparison

a lot of what people are mentioning in this thread relate to actual differences in network carrier equipment.

My wife and I got the Pro and regular 11, on Verizon, and call quality between us is phenomenal, even when signal is on the weaker side. I don't normally pay much attention, but the first time we talked I actually thought, "whoa, you're super clear". And yes, we had VoLTE on our previous phones, so it wasn't just the newness of that. :)

I find call quality improved in the 11 Pro Max. LTE speeds in my office are no better. Phones with Qualcomm modems performed as poorly as do those with Intel. I have Verizon. Colleagues with T-Mobile have marginally better performance in my office, but that might also be due to different phones. there are so many factors. If LTE is bad, 5G might well be much worse.

That's great to hear! Call quality would be my main reason to upgrade from the iphone 8, with it specific problems. Especially upgrading to the pro because improved 4x4 mimo.

Thought I’d add to those saying the XR must be better then the XS, no, in my experience the XR is by FAR the worst mobile phone I’ve ever owned for reception. I’ve tested it compared to my 6S and my 6S has far superior reception, thanks to the Qualcomm modem and antenna design. I cannot wait for next years model..

I think part of the problem is the whole designs of these phone. Qualcomm is better when it comes to edge reception. They have been doing this much longer than intel. I used to have an intel iPhone 7 Plus with T-Mobile , then I had to buy a Qualcomm 7 plus to try Verizon. I ended up going back to T-Mobile the difference wasn’t that big between the two models . The 7 plus intel was a respectful phone. I ended up going to AT&T with the Qualcomm 7 plus until May of this year. I needed a smaller phone , so I bought a sim free factory unlocked iPhone XS. I can tell you , reception wise, it’s great and the city. But whenever I go to a less than ideal signal place , I would have to toggle Air plane mode and hoping that I get some service. All the poor signal places where my 7 plus Qualcomm will have usable service the XS was a brick. I’m glad AT&T has band 14 now ( something my 7 didn’t have ) because that band is the only thing helping. WiFi is straight up disrespectful. Reading all you guys , I might as well wait and hope Qualcomm is really back with Apple next year. ( while Apple refine their acquired modem business)

Apple has much more at stake with the performance of wireless modems than Intel did. Now that Apple has acquired Intel’s modem division, we will hopefully see seem improvements in reception over the next year. To the extent that reception issues can be attributed to modems.

Next year we will have QC modems based on their agreement
So , Intel modem (apple intern chip) can be used until 2023 only with ipads or possible macs lte

Any iPhone 11 users having issues whilst making calls on Vodafone? I’m constantly having the other person saying they can’t here me on that the line is really distorted despite the phone showing at least 3 bars of 4G signal. I switched on WhatsApp audio earlier when my sister could barely here me and that was instantly better (I was still on 4G not WiFi for the WhatsApp call).

i never had these issues on the 8 plus, all the problems have been since I got the iphone 11 last Friday. I also ordered through very with 10% off for new customers & from what I gather there returns process is going to be far from straight forward.

Really frustrating as I like the phone otherwise & have sold my 8 plus already so don’t even know what I would do if I return it

Went from the Iphone 7+ to the Iphone 11 and i have to ask wtf???? seems like the phone is worse in the signal department. totally unbelievable that apple keeps doing things like this.

What model was your 7+? A1661 or A1784?

I don't, but I have a year's worth of anecdotal working-from-home dropped data connections over three different phones to prove it, which included working with Apple engineers. Also, as I said earlier, my 8+ never did this.

If you go back through previous threads, this happened to loads of people in the same situation: folks who upgraded from the 8+ to the XS in low signal areas.

I agree! I switched back to the 8+ last year because the XS was a POS for RF in the same places where the 8+ had no issues ( TMobile ) Since both have the Intel modem, I don't believe it's just because of a crappy modem ( although that's a huge contributing factor )

I recently acquired the XS again ( for the dual-sim convenience ) and it's the same story! I was hoping the 11 would have somewhat patched this, but doesn't appear to be the case! :(

My Note 9 trounces the 8+ and XS for RF every.damn.time!

I've had my Qualcomm 7 next to my 11 Pro (both on Verizon) for a few days now and honestly, I haven't been able to find a significant difference, even in weaker areas (short of the fact that the 11 Pro is a lot faster in good areas). Maybe I haven't hit a spot that's fringe enough yet, but I'm just updating from my earlier post...

don't remember, i already traded it in.

i can't say it's worse, but the 11 isn't that much better in my area and i thought it should be?

its insane that apple charges so much while always putting in inferior components. vital ones at that.

It had to be the Qualcomm version ,if it was on Verizon. Verizon only started whitelisting Intel iPhones with the Intel iPhone 8 , as a LTE only device.

Why did they whitelist the iPhone 8 with Intel modems? There is a Qualcomm version of the 8.

You can thank Apple poor antenna design with the 11 Pro and Pro Max. Has nothing to do with the intel model. The 11 gets better reception than the 11 Pro and Max, because it has a different antenna design, yet uses the same modem. This was the same with last year's models. Xr got better reception than the XS and XS Max, yet had the same intel modem.
