It’s comparing Apples and oranges though.

For one thing, the Air back then was quite a revolutionary product. Then there is a lot to be said about the state of the laptop market then and now on a comparative basis against the competition.

Interesting, it sounds similar to the review where he keeps it very high setting too.

When I had my MBP I believe I had it around 40-50% indoors, but we may just have different preferences.

I do love my XPS 13 matte screen, I work on it comfortable at 20-30% brightness and it’s even readable at 0%. Who would have thought a matte screen made such a difference!

I think while nice to have the brightest screen possible...it probably is overkill 99% of the time. Unless you use it at the beach...but stop taking your MacBook to the beach!!!

No issues. Been using all day since 7am and I have more than half. Again just browsing email and calendar.

That’s good to know, Apple said up to 12 hours wireless web and 13 hours iTunes movie playback.
Which colour did you get? if I reorder I’m torn between the Space Grey and gold at this point.

I am at 47%, time on battery 6:14, time remaining 4:49. Mainly email, some spreadsheets, messaging and light web browsing. Some of that time was commuting, lunch and a couple of meetings but all in all, running great so far. Huge improvement over my MBP but this is a new battery compared to a 5 year old one so that's a factor too. On a good day I was able to get 7 hrs but normally closer to 6. This is about the time of day I'd normally be plugging in for a charge but it's still going strong for me. I will be very happy if this continues.

Is it a pink type of gold tho? Like the rose gold iPhone because I wasn’t a fan of that.

Is it the same gold as the 12” (not the rose gold), because that was nice.

I haven’t seen it in person though, might do later this week.

100% on this is probably about 60% on my previous nTB..... It's dim! I have it maxed out just sitting indoors where I'd usually have the nTB at 60 or 70%.....
Dim is a wrong word choice.

Space grey. What I really wanted was WHITE!!

I would say it's a mix between that gold and the rose gold. It looks a little different depending on the light and the angle you're looking at it from. It's hard to describe the actual color but if I had to, I would say it's something like a matte copper ( or at least what a matte copper color looks like in my head :p)

ETA: I have had a few people come up and say "wow that's really nice" or "that looks sharp" etc but in all honesty, I can't imagine anyone would come up and say "that's the ugliest thing that I've ever seen" so take that with a grain of salt :D

Mine finally came and I think I’m going to like it. Just migrated 250GB from the old Air to this in under 45 minutes. Not running hot like I’ve heard some say. Fan on the old one got loud but the 2018, not so much. Love the gold. Think we’re going to get along just fine.

I exchanged mine a little bit ago as I was having other issues as well. This one appears to be slightly brighter.. The down side was they didn't have the base available in silver any longer in stock so I got a 16GB / 512 SSD version in Silver...

Doing the update now so I'll see but so far this one is slightly brighter and feels snappier.....

Best Buy is now selling NTB Mac Pros 256Gb fro 1299! Maybe go that route...it is sure tempting me.

Gonna share my thoughts in the two main MBA threads in this forum to help prospective buyers.

I just went to the Apple store and compared the nTB MBP and new MBA side by side. The MBA is noticeably dim in person compared to the MBP (even at max brightness). I absolutely would recommend the MBP nTB over the Air. Not even a question. You would need to really value Touch ID or that extra hour of battery to get it over the nTB IMO.

This one is probably fine... The screen is brighter than my other and this one appear to be zippy fast... Still not as bright as the Pro and I do not need 16GB RAM nor the 512 SSD but eh, I'd rather not return and get something else as I am lazy and don't want to deal with it.....

Good to hear. I’m loving this thing. I think touch id may be worth an xtra 100. Zippy fast.

I haven't seen it in person, however from reviews and online pictures it looks more copper/pink which i'm not a big fan of. If i were to get the Air i think i would go with the space grey, however i'm leaning more towards just getting the Touch Bar 13" Macbook Pro, it has a better screen, P3 wide colour, 500 nits, quad core processor i5 or i7, the graphics are said to be a lot better as well, for an extra £328 it's really not that much in terms of money to upgrade to the Touch Bar, especially with me keeping machines for a long time (2011 Macbook pro i had before it died a couple months ago, i also have a 2012 iMac).

I'm loving this thing.
Keyboard is totally wonderful.
Wouldn't even consider a MBP instead of this.
I've had both before, and to write I much prefer the model of MBA.

The color looks like gold mixed with a tad of bronze to me.
I like it, not too shiny, and definitely not pink.

Screen is great, I'm glad I don't have a MBP beside so I won't be disappointed.
Quite the contrary. I don't use full light on it very often anyway.

It's a little heavier than I had expected, but I think I can manage it.
It's fitting into an old MBA 11" sleeve, almost. Same width, though.
But 2018 MBA is a bit deeper, so I'm planning to buy the new Twelve South Journal Case when it will be available.
In that way it will have a better protection than a sleeve. And I don't have to take it off to use and write on it.
It certainly deserve it.

I've found a new friend, for a quite some time :)

Found the two-finger hunt-and-peck typist.

Go use a mechanical keyboard (DAS, maybe a WASD Code). Then go type on a Lenovo Carbon 1, i.e. a portable with a real professional keyboard. Then come tell us how “totally wonderful” this garbage “butterfly” BS is, especially after it fails (like many of the MBPro Gen 3are).

Sorry to disappoint you, but I've been typing for quite some time, and I love it.
Deal with it. Not everyone agrees with you.

Totally agree, I love the butterfly keys. Never had a Macbook with Gen 1, but I love the tactile feedback and noise the Gen 2 & 3 make. I was probably the only one who was upset they tried to quiet the keys with Gen 3 heh. To each their own I guess... some love it, some hate it, but I hope the butterfly keyboard is here to stay a while.

One thing that would keep me away from a Gen 3 keyboard is that Apple hasn't added it to the extended repair program... and while I'm sure it may be more reliable then Gen 2 and especially Gen 1, it sounds like it's still prone to fail. So basically if you but a Mac with Gen 2 keys, you have 3 yrs from now even if you opt out of the Apple Care, where as if you get then new 2018 and don't get the Apple Care, in 2020 if your keys go bonkers, you're sol...

Please post something when you get the Twelve South Journal Case. I just saw that online and I'm intrigued. I just wonder how much weight it will add. Please let us know how you like it if you get one.

I don’t think I’ll buy it before spring season will come closer here. But who knows :p

I almost pushed the buy button when checking up how much shipping was to Sweden.
Not that much, but custom upon that. And I don’t think I will have much use of it yet.
I also wondered about the weight. It’s leather, so it’s not light. Would be good to know to consider.
When carry it around outdoors a lot it will add great protection though, as well as easy to use I can assume. We’ll see....

Jeez, what's with people trying to impose their opinions on others. If he likes the butterfly keyboard, why are you getting so riled up over it? Dont use it if you dont like it, you are not really contributing to the thread by complaining. It has a butterfly keyboard, either deal with it or dont buy it if you dont like it,i dont see the point of ******** on others for something they are okay with.

Hey!

I currently own a 15" MBP 2016 and I'll sell and get something smaller: either the MBA or 13" MBP 2018. Anyone here doing software development on the MBA that can share their feedback regarding performance?
