Since APFS is optimized for flash and SSDs it may be wise to stay with Sierra until all the facts are in on the effects on HDD and fusion.
APFS was built mainly to optimize IOS.
My hack main SSD drive will stay on Sierra until Nvidia drivers are available for my 1070s for High Sierra. I will set up a test SSD with the APFS after spoofing to verify it as Apple hardware and use the IGPU to run it with.
I've been mining Ether for the past few months in Windows 10 and have not been running my hack SSD much. I hope to take the money from mining and build a hack Mini with upcoming 8th generation Intel chip.

I bought a mid level 2014 Mac mini a few months back. I thought it would be good enough to meet my modest needs.
I'm still using mid 2011 mini ( with SSD + 8 GB RAM ) and it works quite good. The only problem is playback of 4K. But at the moment 4K video is not so widespread.

Anyway i hope they will release updated mini this fall.

Wow...I remember when this thread was started. It was, and continues to be, a thread of unwavering hope, criticism, and insanity...LOL

I bought my Mac Mini 2014 (dual core) almost 3 years ago and I got mine with a 512GB SSD and 16GB of RAM. It cost $1600, and my PC-loving coworker thought I was out of my mind...LOL

If Apple comes out with a new Mini, it would have to have a quad core option for me to upgrade, for sure. Not sure if Apple is willing to cannibalize iMac sales for that, though.

Anyway, it's always interesting to read everyone's speculation. :D

Quad core intel i3 nuc should arrive in the second half of 2018!

That suggests April-June 2018. Pretty much about right for an 'annual' MacBook Pro refresh. This assumes 28w includes the Iris Graphics GPU but I think Apple will stick with i5.

Quad core CPU is big news for the 13" MacBook Pros, and more so for the 6 core 45w CPUs that are surely coming too.

Yeah, the Macbook (Pro) gets a possible spring update. The Mac mini... well...

Well, I can't ever see a Mac Mini coming out with a 28w CPU any more. There's no correlation with MacBook Pro any more due to the touch bar.

I still look towards a 15w CPU with Iris Graphics across the board for any future Mini purely on the basis that they don't want to lampshade the uplift in price to get the same kit in a touch bar MacBook Pro.

dream on .. for sure kaby lake... unless they crazy jump to 8 gen.. i'm thinking they wait next year

Mac Mini on September 12?

It's probably the only option as I don't see Apple doing any follow-on events in 2017 (I expect the iMac Pro and HomePod to ship without an event).

But with considering how much we'll probably see (new iPhones, new AppleTV, new Watch and all four OS updates), I don't know where the Mac Mini would fit in unless it's either a "One More Thing" or just an announcement that it has a slightly faster Haswell CPU ala the MacBook Air (which would mean no TB3/USB-C). And if they do that, why not have just said so at WWDC?

I don't expect the Apple TV event to be that long unless they throw Jony Ive at it. It's mostly 4K support and maybe some updated Siri skills most likely.

siri on my phone keep saying bad word.. while macos understand whatever i said.. pretty weird..
so in the end 2011 mac mini is still the best edition of all

Could then buy a Thunderbolt to USB3.0 adapter or docking station.
That's true, I wasn't aware those exist. Cheapest one I could fine was $79 though, and that's pretty expensive for a simple dongle. Can even be more expensive than the drive itself depending on the one you get.

I fully expect Apple will have a television / movie industry executive on-hand to say how nice 4K HDR content looks. My bet is it will be Richard Pleper of HBO announcing "Westworld" (and "Game of Thrones"?) will be available in 4K HDR in iTunes.

This is from the August 31 MR Front Page, which I believe is their most recent prediction. Don't know about you, but I'm pretty excited about those new watch bands. :p

"As for other hardware, many iPads and Macs were refreshed in June, so we are not expecting any updates to the Mac and iPad lineups, but expect to see new Apple Watch bands and new iPhone cases."
