A Mini that I can't run my own compiled (via the GNU compiler set) programs on is a Mini I will never buy. I can certainly see Apple doing this, however.
This will certainly allow Ive's dream of a Mini with no ports to be realized.
So Bloomberge reporting convergence of IOS and macOS is on the way.
https://www.bloomberg.com/news/arti...have-plan-to-combine-iphone-ipad-and-mac-apps
Probably means Arm Macs in near future as well.
Microsoft now emulating X86 code on Snapdragon mobile processors.
Will Apple go there? Chief Executive Officer Tim Cook has resisted doing so, arguing that merging iOS and macOS would degrade the experience. “You can converge a toaster and a refrigerator, but those things are probably not going to be pleasing to the user,” Cook said in 2012. Apple software chief Craig Federighi has called the blending of iOS and macOS “a compromise.”
Maybe so. But Apple has a long history of insisting it would never do something -- make a small iPad, say, or a big iPhone -- and then doing it anyway.
It's hilarious how even though Tim Cook and his staff say the two won't merge, how the two require different OS, many people continue this myth, including the morons at bloomberg. At least they actually mention at the end of the article and I quote
Basically they (Bloomberg) are acting like those clickbait youtube videos "IS THE END OF THE WORLD NEAR?!!!!"
"DID HE REALLY SAY THAT????LOL" and other such BS.
Even in the video (in the link provided) from 01:15 onwards, the journalist (or "journalist" I have no idea) clearly says that Apple DENIES any such plan and that Apple wants two separate devices, and right at the end of that sentence at 01:32 the same person says that this denial is a strong indicator to the OPPOSITE. So much stupidity in just a few seconds.
I guess this is what one would say Fake News, although I just call it stupid news for whoever is willing to swallow the whole thing in one go.
*sigh*
Probably because they think a laptop is for playing movies on a screen bigger than an iPhone.Meanwhile, Wired Magazine just named the iPad Pro the "best laptop of the year". https://www.wired.com/story/gear-of-the-year-2017/
I replaced my 2011 MacBook Pro with an iPad Pro this year, and I’m very happy I did. Now for that new Mac mini (almost certainly coming) to replace my 2012.Meanwhile, Wired Magazine just named the iPad Pro the "best laptop of the year". https://www.wired.com/story/gear-of-the-year-2017/
My wife chose it over all the laptops we tried out for the past 2 months. She picked the 12.9.I replaced my 2011 MacBook Pro with an iPad Pro this year, and I’m very happy I did. Now for that new Mac mini (almost certainly coming) to replace my 2012.
Yep, as a main device it wouldn't work for me neither. Makes a nice complement to my hack tho and my wife mostly needs word processing and whatever. The 12.9 is damn nice. But it could never replace a laptop/desktop for me.
Lol. I think I buy about that many every year!600% increase from last year's sales!
Yes, but Apple doesn’t want to lose the sale of a single iMac, MBP, MacBook/air.I see there’s an iMac mini for $899. It has a 2.6/3.1GHz i-5 dual core CPU, 8GB of RAM and a 256GB SSD drive.
If that $899 mini were refreshed today with a newer processor that could support 4K, is that a good machine you’d recommend for the average home user?
I don’t follow you; that machine already exists, except for 4K capability.Yes, but Apple doesn’t want to lose the sale of a single iMac, MBP, MacBook/air.
Perhaps I’m confused, you said imac Mini. And the Mac mini hasn’t been “updated” since 2014. Apple is more concerned about Macs with higher margins, and that ain’t the Mac mini - thus, no updates.I don’t follow you; that machine already exists, except for 4K capability.
Sorry to confuse you, I wrote iMac mini, there is no such Mac. I meant Mac mini. Edited to correct.Perhaps I’m confused, you said imac Mini. And the Mac mini hasn’t been “updated” since 2014. Apple is more concerned about Macs with higher margins, and that ain’t the Mac mini - thus, no updates.
NP. But I still stand by my stance. Apple doesn’t want this low-margin Mac to take sales away for other Macs. That’s why they don’t update it, and why they downgraded in 2014 by removing the quad core option.Sorry to confuse you, I wrote iMac mini, there is no such Mac. I meant Mac mini. Edited to correct.
Sorry, I wrote iMac mini, edited my post to correct. I meant Mac mini, there is no iMac mini.Where are you seeing this? I don't see a system like this at this price point, or with these components, in Apple's current line.
Ok but my question was assuming a refresh; unless you take Cook’s statement to imply the mini won’t ever be refreshed, it apparently will get updated at some point.NP. But I still stand by my stance.
