Any news on the new Mac mini? Will it be coming?
If you’d actually like to know what the rumors are instead of the glass-completely-empty answer, here’s the latest. Ming Chi Kuo and Mark Gurman, both known to publish reliable rumors based on supply chain or other leaks, claim a new mini is coming before the end of the year. Make of that what you will :)

Ah.. Ming Chi Kuo, the Apple Soothsayer. So it IS most certainly coming.....

Let’s say a Mac mini is coming ... what will you guys be using for a monitor? Or what’s worth purchasing right now to complement it?
Have never owned a Mac mini but it has piqued my interest.

For most, the answer is whatever is already there. For some, the answer is whatever you want. For me, I currently have a workstation set up with 3 24-inch monitors on a horizontal arm. My mini has two of the monitors, and 2 other PCs share the third via the monitors input selection. An iMac, or any AIO really, does not fit into such a setup. A laptop could theoretically work, but that sucks. And if I can't open the thing to clean dust, then it's bound to fail sooner rather than later.

I'm in no particular hurry to upgrade honestly. I'm rocking a Late 2012 mini, w/ 16GB and 500GB SSD. Sooner or later though, hardware failure or software incompatibility (most likely) will become an issue.

Dell P2715Q or a BenQ SW2700PT would be my first choices. I do not care for Samsung monitors. Perhaps a flavor of LG, although I do not really care for them either, which does not mean they are bad. It really depends on how much and if you want 4K. For me, P2715Q is my go to...4K, sRGB, $350, I have several at work and they work well, no complaints. At home, I have a P2415Q and a BenQ SW271.

I'm currently using a 34" LG monitor... I do wonder if a new monitor will mean new Cinema Displays. I think there was new CD's launched with previous Mini's, no?

Probably will initially use my crappy old Samsung - however I will replace the monitor as soon as I can. I've not replaced it yet as my 2012 might not drive a 4/5k monitor very well so waiting to see what Apple come up with. If it's crap then 4/5k iMac it is then!

You don't want an iMac! The Mac Mini is only weeks away (maybe!).

Has to work with my 55" 4K Samsung through HDMI. I need 4K 60hz.

I also need a T2 chip in there so my File Vault encryption really works.

Don't even bother trying to use a 4K monitor on your 2012 Mac mini. It won't even work. Intel HD 4000 cannot drive any display with a resolution higher than 2560 by 1600.

Same goes for the 2014 Mac mini. It only supports a single 4K display over HDMI at a measly 30 Hz refresh rate. Just don't even try it. The Mac mini line is underpowered and has antiquated hardware.

How can they go to work each day knowing they are selling a Mac with 4 GB of SOLDERED memory combined with a SLOW 5400-rpm hard drive in 2018?

The Mac mini is a ****ing pile of crap because it has been abandoned for so long by Apple and quite frankly Tim Cook is single-handedly responsible for this. He is responsible for getting teams to do their ****ing job. How hard is it to update the internals in a Mac mini? They have tarnished what was once a wonderful product.

The Mini seemed to always get updated with the plastic Macbook, then the 13" non-retina MBP - now that's not around this mini has missed out.

I agree, it's utter crap that the mini has been in its current state for 4 years.

Well I got the 14 with i5. 2.6 and 8gb of ram. Not 4gb. Its pretty good. And even the 5400 rpm hd in my mini is not too slow. It is plenty fast for me. Not everybody need that fast.

Try the 1.4 GHz. Go on, I dare you.
Don’t worry, Apple won’t bother with low margin configurations anymore. $899-999 will be the minimum config on the updated mini.

Of course, doubling the cost to users will price-out some of the market, but the mini as a product line needs to be able to stand on its own two feet wrt ASP and profit margins. Otherwise, this update will almost certainly be the end of the line for the mini. It seems like almost everyone prefers notebooks or all-in-ones.

I would be only mildly surprised if the rumored Apple car turns out to be this exactly.

And naturally the horse will be soldered to the buggy. It will be the best selling car of all time. GM and Ford both declare bankruptcy within 1 year of its release.
Among the funniest of all posts in this thread! Good one! And please do not think for a second that those horse shoes will be user replaceable. Nope, into the shop for that :)
