Tomorrow if you ordered one!
Apple turned me into a builder and hacker a few years back for desktops. I find it more affordable and gives me more options to configure but I am a fan of the Mini. I wanted a new Air but unsure about the those Y core processors. I probably get one to try out. I am happy that the people waiting for a new Mini finally got one.

Almost certainly in October 2019.
:)

Was just looking at the 2014 Mini prices at B&H. They really aren't offering any discount at all... the base 2014 Mini is $499 and in the past they always knocked a bit off that. Maybe they are banking on the idea that people will continue buying it because it's much cheaper than the base 2018 model? Their cheapest 2014 mini with a SSD is the 2.6ghz dual core i5 with 8gb/256gb... for $889! That's crazy!

Looking at the Apple refurb store, there aren't any 2014 Mini's at all. A couple days ago there were quite a few, although the prices were not at all attractive. Looks like some people are willing to pay a premium to get a 2014 Mini.

I hate to be a doomsayer but overall the expectations of the "general populous" are under siege in every aspect - lower your expectations - expect to pay more for less and be appreciative when said vendor attempts to shade you with features. This falls in-line with the evolution of middle-income in America. It has become impossible to sustain the same level of satisfaction acquired in the past.

In order for Apple to sustain it's advantages in the market and with the user base there will be compromises. I am by far impressed that Apple has delivered and within the latest specified time-frame - they are now building faith once again but it's always our due diligence to elevate our faith and turn away when necessary even if it means doing without (yeah right).

I will be all over this thing once the money is right and I will dwell in the house of Apple until the Mini is no longer supported or meets my needs.

Joke apart, what’s missing in a Mac mini 2018 that you’re already waiting for the next one?

Personally I wanted this:

Hello

I would love to see a new Mac mini as it was a perfect source for my hifi system (Rotel RA-12 & KEF Q700)
.
I would like to see:

- new processor & GPU & proper HDMI capable to play 4K files on 4K TV
- smaller form factor with the same space gray color than my 2018 MacBook Pro
- 512 GB SSD
- Microphone & T2 chip to say "Hey, Siri"
- USB type-A to connect a DAC

Wait & see...

I am delaying my purchase of speakers (probably KEF R300) because of the Mac mini.

Almost a BINGO!

Anybody seen bencmarks that compare mini2018 with dual channel ram (matched pair) vs. different dimms (single channel)?

I don't have recent info, but a study with DDR3 put it at about 5-8% slower under normal usage patterns for single channel. Note that 2 mis-matched dimms will run in dual channel mode until it accesses upper memory (eg: 4G + 8G means the first 8G runs in dual mode and the top 4G runs in single mode)

Interesting...I am looking at just pairing a 16+4 GB for 20GB in the new mini, and then later on, possibly 16+32 for 48GB.

5-8% slower for memory intensive task benchmarks? Or for overal system performance? I doubt the latter...

Which configuration did you go for?

Mac mini
With the following configuration:
3.2GHz 6‑core 8th‑generation Intel Core i7 (Turbo Boost up to 4.6GHz)
32GB 2666MHz DDR4
Intel UHD Graphics 630
2TB SSD storage
Gigabit Ethernet (10/100/1000BASE-T Gigabit Ethernet using RJ-45 connector)

Apple Care, Apple keyboard and Magic Mouse to go with.

Mine is scheduled to arrive between the 18th to 20th (was 19th to 21st but the delivery got bumped up for some reason). You’d think after waiting 4 years for the next Mini that waiting a few days for the delivery would be easy, but it can’t arrive soon enough (got my 2012 Mac Mini just before the 2014 model was released).

If you run a raw memory test, it will come out closer to a 50% slowdown. However that's a very artificial thing to do / not real world

For regular work, most memory accesses hit the cache and therefore doesn't access main memory until it needs to (which greatly reduces the hit that the slower memory would otherwise give you). Therefore you get the lower hit of 5-8% or so

That's a seriously maxed out machine - looking forward to the benchmarks :)

UK Refurb prices have not changed for 2014 Minis. As far as I know they aren't available brand new on 'clearance' but at the moment the UK store is empty. Perhaps Apple withdrew unsold 2014s from the channel in order to service the future 2014 Minis that turn into problems before the 5 years is up?

i was kinda wondering when @Cape Dave will return to the Mini ... and I guess @sublunar will build a Mini silo and crack the code to Dark Energy and remember "Appleleaker", gone like a ghost, I guess they're in the slammer for leaking the real deal on the Mini but what really concerns me is somewhere in 2020 and @Micky Do will have found a way to continue using his 2005 Mini, almost certainly, albeit slowly ... very slowly! (Stay-Tuned)

... and thanks to all the others I didn't mention (far too many) !!!

I'm currently weighing up my BTO options while waiting for i5 vs i7 heat and noise reviews. :)
