The Mini has often shared chips with the laptops, so there is much already done if Apple do release laptops first as rumoured. Many developers will just want a small box that will fit on their desk, something the other Mac ranges do not suit. The need to work on Mac software will not end with the return of the dev kits. Having an AS Mini would be a major positive step for the potential success of Apple Silicon, so I hope we see it.

It should be much cheaper than a ‘full pro’, considering there will be no intel markup also.
You would think Apple should be able to drastically reduce the cpu cost keeping it in-house, as Xeons are not cheap.

I hope Apple will start manufacturing memory on its own very soon.
All these devices and computers with soldered storage will be dirt cheap!

Either way, I don't hold my breath that #9 in my .sig will come true next tuesday...

Oh it'll obviously be cheaper than the full Mac Pro. The question is how much.

How much of the current Mac Pro's price is actually due to the Intel CPU?

The Intel Xeon W-3223 in the base-model Mac Pro is only worth around $800 MSRP.

Yet Apple charges $6,000 for that machine. So I wouldn't blame it on the "Intel Markup" in that case. :p

The box for the current Mac Pro probably cost £250. Very robust.

It will be cheaper to manufacture. Whether Apple decides to pass that savings on to the consumer remains to be seen (and they don't often cut prices on anything).

We may not get a new Mac Mini today but we will definitely get insight into the future of the Mac platform and what the new Mini will be like when it does get released.

Will the new Macbook Pro support eGPU?
Will it support Boot Camp?
Will it really perform as fast as they will claim it will in today's presentation (I am sure they will say it is million times faster!). We will have to wait on that one. Hope it does but there have been plenty of times the presentation doesn't match real world.
What does backward compatibility look like for software that was built on Intel. Is there a performance decreased from whatever emulator they are using?
How will the iOS apps work? One of the things I love is the way the TV platform on my phone and Apple TV integrates everything together, while I still have to go out to web sites like Hulu and Amazon. Would love the same experience on my Mac.

Very excited to see the future of the Mac platform.

Where did all the USB-C ports go? You're left with one after said 6K Monitor, out of the price range of the target customer. Always the weirdest choices on new Mini releases, even ones as important as this.

Real specs please. Store is obviously down.

For anyone freaking out over the ports and lack of memory - my prediction is they’re going to announce a space gray Mac mini with the M1X chip and 64gb memory later next year.

I think them going back to the traditional silver aluminum, and the fact that the Intel i5 and i7 minis are still available on the store, shows they don’t view this mini as a “pro” mini.

This mini feels like it’s replacing the core i3 mini.

Just wait.

Lord knows why max ram is quarter of previous model....... 🤔
At least you can buy both on the store.

I hope you're right. Everything looks very impressive, but I'm extremely disappointed by the meager 16 GB of ram and then two USB-C ports. I consider 32 GB the very minimum in any computer today and I'd most likely want 64 GB in my next computer.

Yea in a way it seems like a step backwards. But I wonder with the M1 chip and 16GB memory it will effectively perform similar to the previous gen i5/i7 w/ 32gb? Kind of like a "less is more" type thing? Or maybe Apple decided they wanted to "De-Pro" the Mini by removing 2 ports and downing the memory to 16GB by making it more entry level again.
