for me (like most things), it all takes getting used to. i LIKE the new side dock; in fact, i wish i could get that on the bottom dock. do-able? anyone??...

On my night sky desktop background I very much dislike the new dock.

I don't see why Apple wont give us the choice of color/transparentness. I mean windows has lot of options when it comes to their interface.

Looks stupid IMO, folders are dark and the dock is light :-

Over a white background, like this page you're looking at, icons look bad and the running indicator is hard to see.

I hope there'll be a hack soon, or an option to tweak the colour.

yeah, i've been exploring this too (the side dock on the bottom). need someone, uh...smarter than me to figure it out.

guess...patience. we'll hopefully see some cool free-and-shareware apps for 10.9...

I don't mind it and you can't change almost anything in OS X anyway - so why worry about it!

Looks fine to me. Or auto hide the dock. But left tis not bad either. This way I can have my browser full screen and no cutoff on the bottom.

Hiding is an option, but they still force space between app window and screen border.
And gosh, that shadow on app windows is terrible.

I don't like this new one at all. It is almost impossible to see the indicator lights. All the icons are also less distinct as they blend in with the white background compared to the old black one.

Also as someone noted already, the dock is inconsistent as the popup menus still have black background.

A transparency option on the dock makes sense to me. Then we can either go with Apple's background or rely on the aesthetics of our wallpaper.

For those who like the new dock.

When I first saw it with the Mavericks BG looked awesome, I said WOW.

But then I switched to my dark night sky background which gives contrast with my icons and open windows. Now is just a punch in the eyes, it doesn't stop annoying every second.

With the older darker logo I used to keep control of open apps or notifications with peripheral vision.

This is just wrong, I'll have to hide it until someone hack it or apple gives us the power to turn the &%$& down opacity or change color. FFS

For the first time ever (well, since my first Mac in 1998) I am auto-hiding the dock 'cos I have such a pwetty wallpaper :)

I dont understand why they still do the old 3D bottom dock. It didnt look very nice when it first came and especially now it looks outdated. It feels "heavy" and pretty ugly.

They should do a 2D dock with io7 style transparency to give it a fresh crisp look.

Let me know if anyone figures out how to get the 2D bottom dock working again with Mavericks..
