Apple News needs tiered pricing. In order to get high quality content, they need to charge closer to $50/month. The Wall Street Journal, for example, charges $50/month for full access to its online content.

And no advertisements. The amount of advertising in Apple News+ is too much for even me. I pay for Economist and WSJ - reading their content with an adblocker.

Gave an honest one-month-long trial to Apple News Plus. I quickly realized that I don't need it. I don't care for most magazines. As for those that I do and newspapers, most participating in this scheme had limited content available. Apple either needs to rethink and adjust the strategy or to let go.

If you haven't seen why an independent free press is worthy of compensation in the last four years I don't know what to tell you.

I liked the idea of Apple News in theory, but chose to directly subscribe to The NYT directly (along with The Washington Post) and continue my physical subscriptions to my handful of magazines. Maybe I am just too Old School.
maybe a little old school, but I am 33 and feel like I am techie enough, but there is nothing better than a physical newspaper. I tried to read the news in the morning on my iPad in order to be a little more environmentally friendly, but I LOVE getting the newspaper in person.

And unlike Apple News anyone can access The New York Times from nearly anywhere in the world whereas Apple's service is available only the the usual anglophone countries USA, Canada, Australia and UK. Apple needs to stop being so anglocentric.

Apple News is the first app I delete from every new iPhone. Gah. Well I just happen to think everything in the news is lies. I know not everyone thinks that / has woken up to that yet ... ;)

From a business perspective NYT move makes perfect sense, why would they want to be a dumb provider with much competition packaged into this app.

The news media overall would be completely irrelevant by now if not for the fact that huge amounts of profits can be made by shaping the perceptions of the people. But I guess everyone knows this by now.

I read mine backwards. Last page of section 4 is the funnies, and they get me through the cooling of my cup. Section 4 is sports and it eases me into my second. Then I balance more coffee with sections 2 and 3. The front page gets left for the end or the afternoon.

It's a good ritual, and it never translated to glass.
