Major props to the OP. Nicely done.

One thing I didn't see, that I would like to add to the list is scheduled on/off. I love this feature on my BB. It would also be very nice if your phone was off, it would wake with an alarm. Another BB feature that is a no brainer.

Cheers.

Thank you. I don't understand the request though. You can already turn off the phone's screen so that it eats up very little battery life. Did you mean a scheduled mute/unmute function?

64GB and the option to use iPhone as a mass storage device in a pinch

Maybe, if Apple can make it so it's not messy.

4" inch Super AMOLED 960x640 screen with full RGB subpixels

Please, don't mention Super AMOLED. 4" is a little big, but I wouldn't mind it getting a little larger.

4G Antenna

LTE? Yes, please. Hopefully in the iPhone 5.

Proximity Sensor and Antenna Fix

The Verizon iPhone antenna is fine. I haven't heard of any recent problems with the proximity sensor either.

Bigger Battery

Won't this always be on the list?

IR remote functionality to integrate it with other devices, such as Apple TV and Google TV, use it as a universal remote controller, play games on your TV and use you iPod/iPhone as a controller, as a trackpad mouse or a 10/Gui Keyboard and such

This can already be done. Try Mobile Mouse PRO (Remote/ Trackpad). Having said that, you can remove this from the list.

Dual speakers with the ability to emulate 3D surround sound as well as a higher volume and vibrate (the current max volume and max vibrate are way too low)

On the phone?!?!

3D Screen akin to the Nintendo 3DS for 3D gaming and 3D movie viewing.

No. There is no reason to have 3D on a phone.

Multiple Phone Colors,

Can already be done with cases...

A filesystem is my biggest want for the next iOS. Not like on a Mac where you see system files and other stuff, but just a users home folder. A place that all apps can access and load and save files from/to. That way if I have a document it doesn't have to exist inside of each app in order to access it. (1 copy in DropBox, 1 in Pages, 1 in DocsToGo, etc.) Also it means that Apples apps would be able to share files with DropBox or any other file syncing service. Then get rid of the file sharing in iTunes and instead just have the disk show up as an external drive. And please let us drag and drop videos and photos from any PC directly into the iPhone's video/photos folder without having to go through iTunes and syncing everything. It sucks that we can't just simply drag and drop a photo from a friend's computer into the Phone. When plugged in, allow Windows/OSX to recognize and use the iPhone as a 32GB/64GB Mass/USB Storage Device with access to the file system.

Again, if it's done in a user-friendly way and isn't messy, then I'd say yes.

Wireless Hotspots without Jailbreaking

Um, this feature is coming in iOS 4.3. There's no need to wait to remove it because we know it's coming.

The ability to download themes from the app store. Users who are tired of the stale look of iOS and who want to customize the device with a theme that has been tested for functionality will be happy as will theme makers, and Apple makes some money from the sales.

No. Just no. This will NEVER happen, so might as well remove it now. That's what jailbreaking is for. Sorry to burst your bubble...

Ability to use it like a Magic Trackpad or 10/GUI device with other apple devices

As I stated earlier, this can already be done.

Allow us to connect our iPhone to a PC/TV to function as an external hard drive to store and move content

I disagree with this one.

Letting us rename apps, remove app names entirely

Just plain 'no'. Sorry, this won't happen either. Jailbreak if you must.

Let us delete/hide the built in stocks and youtube (and other) apps, so that we can replace youtube app with m.youtube.com web app (looks and works a lot better).

Store them in a folder. Apple won't allow this anyway.

GPS comparable to Andriod phones at least

You mean, like Navigon or TomTom?

The current home button is starting to look a little stale, let's hope the recent rumor that Apple is doing away with the home button completely in favor of multitouch gestures, pans out.

I strongly disagree with this one too (and so does John Gruber).
My comments are in the grayish color. I only replied to certain parts of your post - the rest I either agree with or didn't have anything to say.

Thanks. I'm waiting for the iPhone 5 or 6 to catch up to the PSP2.

The PSP2 is really damn impressive.

Quad core A9 cpu, and each A9 core is about 30-50% more powerful than the single core A8 cpu that powers the current iPhone 4.

Quad core SGX543 gpu, and each SGX543 core is almost twice as powerful as the single core SGX535 gpu that powers the current iPhone 4.

LPDDR2 ram, which runs at about six times the clock speed of the LPDDR1 ram being used in the current iPhone 4.

Anyway you look at it, the PSP2 is roughly six times more powerful than the iPhone 4, and yet the iPhone 4 can run games that look as amazing as Epic Citadel. So just imagine how good PSP2 games could look.

1. The PSP is strictly a gaming device. That means it's not a phone. Therefore, don't compare the two. We're pretty fortunate for the iPhone to be able to play such games in the first place.
It's like comparing an Xbox 360 to the Apple TV. Don't compare apples to oranges.
Can the iPod Touch try to rival the PSP? Yes, i like the sound of that.

2. I like almost everything in the OP. Except we have Magic Mouse, TomTom, cases for multiple colors, and 3D on a phone will never happen.
Apple already has patented hologram technology, so if anything we might see holograms instead.
You can also forget about themes and the ability to change application names. And a few more.

More than anything for iOS 5 and iPhone 5, i'd like to see a bigger screen, with a superior notification system than the Android phones, and only after that will i think about widgets.

I really doubt Apple will make the iPhone screen larger anytime soon. Also, you have to take into consideration the cost to manufacture a phone with all your wants and wishes and whether or not it would be profitable for Apple to create said fantasy device.

Thank you. I don't understand the request though. You can already turn off the phone's screen so that it eats up very little battery life. Did you mean a scheduled mute/unmute function?

Of course, let me clarify. With a BB you can set an auto on/off time. So you preset a time for the phone to turn off and turn back on during the weekdays and then the same for the weekends. For me it is a great feature, because I don't have to worry about turning my phone off - so I don't get woken up by incoming texts, emails, etc.

Then the BB alarm functions whether the phone is on or off. Say you turn off your phone and go to sleep. The BB will turn on and the alarm will go off. With the iPhone if the phone was off, the alarm will not be sounded.

Thanks!

Gaming on the iPhone is huge though. I think the least apple could do is release a sleek gaming case for it that adds dual analog nubs and buttons so that FPSs and other games become fun to play.

I agree with you on almost everything else. Some of the stuff on the list, I only added because other people requested them. 3D on a phone could happen someday, once the tech improves and if the 3DS makes 3D gaming and 3D movies a huge hit. But probably not for a few years.

I already have navigon so I don't need a built in app, however, it sucks that navigon doesn't work with google maps, safari or the rest of your phone. You can't just click on an address in google maps, or in your notes, or an address in safari and have it open up in navigon for example

i love how you say "your customers have spoken, and this is what they want".

you mean "I have spoken, and this is what I want".

i don't give a **** about most of the things there and neither do most other people.

it's a phone! if you want a gaming device, buy one. or all the people who want a smartphone end up with an overpriced overpowered ugly as hell monstrosity with analogue sticks but not enough room around the phone itself to actually use it.

jesus.

All you Verizon people, welcome. Be sure to give me input on what's missing from the Verizon iPhone too, unless they're completely identical (I'm not sure).QUOTE]

not a verizon customer, sweet thread though, although its got a bitter aftertaste as the only improvements we will see in the iphone5 are:

faster cpu
more ram
better camera (maybe!)
Near-Field Communication (possibly!)

cuz thats how apple roll

This thread was made in September 2010...

Amazing how much life this thread has isn't it. Well see this June how many of our wishes we get :)

I'm late into this thread, but when I got to the line saying the Samsung Galaxy S and the iPhone 4 were "almost the same size", I had to change my underwear due to laughing too much.

The Samsung Galaxy S, aside from being a morbid iPhone 3GS rip off in terms of design (original design there Samsung, kudos ), is noticeably larger than the iPhone 4, not "almost the same size".

Its slightly larger, not noticeably so. Plus it has a much bigger bezels than phones like the evo 4g which could be pared down in the 4 inch iPhone

Not noticeably bigger? Seriously? Compared to the iPhone 4 you can easily tell it's quite a bit bigger.

I want to pay for apps through my phone bill, have trials of apps (It would be much better. The developer can maybe choose the amount of time or if at all, but I think it would make people happier), and upgrades (if you've bought the previous version, it costs less)
Also, simple stuff in the app store would be to queue downloading and updates. currently, if I'm the app store trying a bunch of apps or something, I download one, it takes me to my last page of apps, and i scroll back to app store and start again. can't it just download in the background? same thing with updates. Also, when updating, if I lose internet for whatever reason, the app is useless, stuck in it's current partially downloaded state. Can't it just replace the current app when it's done downloading?
these are all pretty simple and just make things nicer

No. Most apps already have a lite version to demo. It would be too easy for someone to complete a game before the trail period is over.

I think that it should be optionional for devs. But I know I would buy more apps if I didn't go in blindly. Plus they would get better reviews. I mean they have total control of if there's a trial and trial time and stuff. I don't see any downside. Everyone's happy
