Those aren't the same design.

The basic outline is the same.

First gen: flat backing
Second gen: curved backing
Third gen: stays exactly the same
Fourth gen: both will most likely be flat with flat sides (boxy)

I hope the iPod touch gets an aluminum backing instead of that damn polished steel!

The first iPhone had volume buttons on the left side. It makes no sense for you to use that as evidence.

I'll concede that they both went flat back to curved back, but I'd hardly consider that the same design.

i think the next ipod touch is gonna have a flat back, most likely out of anodized aluminum a la ipad or if apple is feeling very generous, a glass back like the iphone but i think the aluminum will happen 95%.

Has anyone else seen that British event video? Where one of the companies head guys talks about the iPod touch 4g specs? He says it will get the 5mp camera and FaceTime, gyroscope and retina display, and the iPhone 4 design with aluminum backing. I don't think it's all that credible, considering how that would just make competition for the iPhone, but Apple might just pull something out unexpectedly. I can't find the video but you can find it in article form.

What about audio quality, I mean that is where it lags behind the competition like Cowon, Iriver, Sony?

Exactly, that's why I decided to abandon Apple and get a Cowon J3.Yeah I'll miss my WIFI for a while but I'll get used to it.To me that's worth it to get exceptionnal audio quality, paired with my JVC HANC-250 that'll be sweet.

Too bad Apple doesn't realise a music player should have great audio quality.

Ah, my apologies. The image on the top of page 24, which I was using for reference for the designs, shows the OG iPhone as having the volume buttons on the right side. Post has been edited! :D

copier :F
;)
I just looked at the tech specs of the Touch vs the 3GS on apple.com and noticed that the Touch doesn't come near the 3GS in terms of battery life. Only 6 hours of video compared to 10. I hope they can make the battery life on par with the iPhone 4 in the new iteration. :(
Some extra battery life would be nice.
;)
I found a new picture of the leaked iPod Touch 4G LCD screen/digitizer, I haven't seen this pic yet so I thought I would post it. It's from alibaba.com

http://www.alibaba.com/product-gs/323486140/for_ipod_MP4_touch_4th_gen.html

It's a different angle, so it may look the same as other pics.

Just get rid of the chrome, whatever.

;)

Sorry i havent posted lately.

I wish we could have multiple polls.

If anything, I think Apple will release a 3rd generation with camera (8 or 16GB) at the bottom bar for $199, then release the 4th gen redesigned ones with (32/64GB) for $299 and $399. It would make sense, right? They can't just leave us hanging with the same old iPod at the bottom bar for those of us who don't even need 32GB. I can do without the redesign, but camera(s) and retina display are musts.

I'm just going to lay this down: The new Touch is GOING to be redesigned.
Yep.
So is the Nano and Shuffle (maybe).
Hmmmmm.....

I will pay the extra $100 for all of the extras. Thats what i was thinking; have the $199 some of the extras, have the $299 have most if not all of the extras, and have the $399 have all of the extras.

So far, Apple has always made the current iPod Touch to mirror the iPhone design, albeit w/out a phone (and no camera w/ 3rd gen iPod Touch).

I see what you mean, but they haven't made such a design mistake before that was so detrimental to the reception. The iPod Touch has a wifi antenna, so the same mistake cannot be made again. They are actually lucky that they haven't released the two products simultaneously. So I expect the antenna issue fixed or at least tinkered with.

Most likely.

Things like sd card slots are tangential to the focus of the device. The focuses of the ipod touch are music, video, and games. Apple will not include features that are so disconnected from the device's purpose.

Disconnected??? Are you kidding? I'm on vacation, take pics/video with my camera, remove the card, place it in the touch, upload pics/video and send them to family/friends/Facebook/YouTube/etc.

That's just one of many valid justifications for it.

This wouldn't even be an issue if the phone companies didn't force smartphones into data plans. I don't need 24/7 internet and I certainly don't need to pay an additional $30 each month for the privilege of using a smartphone. These phones have WiFi and that's more than adequate for my needs.

Get rid of the forced data plans and there wouldn't be a need for the iPod touch.

Here's the thing: Apple won't add an SD card slot because there would be compatibility issues. That's a can of worms that they won't want to get in to. Plus, SD cards have never been elegant. Ever. Apple wants elegance, and SD cards won't do the trick.

The, however, do add SD card slots to their Macs to increase their 8% (?) market share. People don't see SD cards as a necessity on an MP3, but they see them as a necessity on a PC.

Plus, it's easy enough to sync photos to one's computer from the iPod, so it's almost a non-issue, anyway. I don't even have the slightest desire to have an SD card slot. I'd almost be angry if they did decide to include one.

You mean some people. Many people see it as a necessity. Additionally, the iPod touch is a computer; so does that make SD a necessity?

You missed the part where I'm on vacation and want to send pics from my camera home. Tell me, where's my computer?

hi guys! any new speculation?

Well, it is said that the ipod was the training wheels for the iphone, we may perhaps see something that iphone does not sport at the present moment.
