can someone please tell me what the retna display is? also i know that it was stated about the gyroscope and what it is, but im still confused. can someone please help me. im looking at getting an ipod touch, but i dont know what to do. im thinking about waiting to see about the 4th gen. and i would like to see it be the same general look as the new i phone. i think that it would be a huge step in the right direction. i have never used skype or facetime before but i think that it would be a huge help to sales and revenue. i know some of my bosses has them and i got to see what its all about. also we get a guy who works for at&t who comes into my work and he sometimes gets good info. i think that a gps feature would also be a big hit with a younger crowd. just from experiance it is a hassle to have multiple devices and its an even greater hassle to have to spend multiple hundreds of dollars to have both. especially of the budget of a high school student. also i had heard of a rumor that instead of having the double camera that there was going to be one on the inside and some sort of small projector on the outside to compete with some other smart phone devices. any ideas? Views of a differing perspective
ok. i am a high school student, and also i am working on my training to become an audio engeneer. personaly i think that the old look has to go. The new touch needs to model the new iphone or i know a decent portion of their sales (my generation and younger) will decide its not worth it. i think that thickness could be sacrificed if the itouch can preform more duties, such as facetime, gps, whatever you want. From what i heard the whole gyroscope thing should be a great addition if they make it work to the full benefit of the machine. if they can make a gps function i would jump for joy! i have experianced many points where one could come in handy and using google maps and having to stop just doesn`t cut it for me. next i think that while a speaker is great unless it is a more quality one, its not worth sacrificeing the space where other things could be added. also if a decent microphone could be installed ( one that can distinguish my voice from backround noise, i know it sounds crazy but we have been trying for how long now? we have the technology i know we do, ive done it) it would be a big booster in sales. while i have never used skype or facetime i think there is room to grow in this new direction. and guess what, itouch is the place to start. i have heard rumors of apple instead of useing two cameras, putting one on the inside, and changeing the outside one to a video projector to battle the smart phones that have the capabilities. the retina display if that is what you mean is a feature on only iphone 4's it just means there are 4x the amount of pixels then other non i4's
gyrscope is another feature that is only availible in iphone 4 and it is just used to know your location to gravity.

ok, i am a high school student. i also am training to do audio recordings as a studio engeneer. i think that i might be able to shed a new perspective here. ok first as we all stated, go with the new look. if it doesnt change i know that i will be disapointed plus a LOT of other people. im tired of seeing the same old look. I could be wrong but the new style seems like it could fit more functionality and features in. plus i hate having to wory about the chrome on the back and scratching it. even if you put the 1st -3rd gens into a case it will get a scratchif you put it on the table wrong. BAD. Next i think that if your going to put a speaker into a high profile killer peice of tech like this you better make it good quaility. i have 3 audio systems in my house and i can tell you first hand that size insnt always everything. or if you just took out the speaker and put in a decent mic ( one that can distinguish my voice from the outside noise( we have been working on it now for how long, i know its possible, i have done it many times)) then you WAY boost the usefullnes of this machine. My nest issue is the GPS functionality, why not? if you put in the gyroscope( if i understand it correctly) then you can make it work to its full potential. i hate it that i have to spend one two three hundred on a gps and then however much more on an ipod. in my view and much the view of my generation if you put forward such a magnificent machine, then whynot make it do everything you can. if i am going to put up that much money on a high schoolers salary well then i guess i just expect more. It has the same sensitivity, but it has 4x the pixels as the previous generation iPod touches and iPhones. The Retina Display has a resolution of 960x640 (614,400 total pixels) whereas previous iPod touches/iPhones had a display with a resolution of 480x320 (153,600 total pixels). The Retina Display displays MUCH clearer text, images and video in comparison to the previous display. It is called the Retina Display because it is so dense with pixels that the human retina can not perceive the difference between each individual pixel. It's awesome.
OOOOOOOOOOH, ok. that makes sense. sorry im a sound guy and not very up to date yet with image. i dont own a touch yet, still the 3rd gen nano. but i have tried them often. would this update alter the touch sensitive calibrations at all?

It'll probably stay just as sensitive as always, which is extremely sensitive.

its a matter of personal choice and life style. do you stay at home more or are you out doing whatever? are you willing to spend 30 and up $ on a game or just 1 or less$. are you willing to wait till september to find out if it is right for you? and have you done research on both items and compared the pro's and con's. personally im not home enough and dont like to spend all my money if i can. but i think if you can answer those questions it will become obvious to you.
Everyone I know purchased a Nintendo Wii. No one I know uses their Nintendo Wii, including myself. As for my 2nd gen iPod touch? I used it many hours each day until it was stolen, and am anxiously waiting for the 4th gen to come out so I can replace it.

I stood in line for the Wii when it first came out. Played with it for maybe a month before the novelty wore off. Now it just sits there. Waste of money.
On the other hand, I still use my iPod classic which I purchased 4 years ago, and that was before there were apps. Can't wait to get the new Touch, or iPhone. Still haven't decided which yet.
i really hope so. the square part is a much more modern twist, more defined version of the ipod. I think it really needs to get rid of the rounded back as well, we've seen too much of it. Turn the whole thing modern and make it a good buy.
the camera is way overdue but you're going to need to come up with something even better to catch the eye of the public, what with all the smart phones coming out, no one's going to need an ipod touch in another few years. I hope we'll all be pleasantly surprised by something new.
i reckon the touch - you will use it heaps more and it can do heaps more than the nintendo wii can. but the wii is also fun, and you can play it with your friends. The only problem is that you need a tv and controllers and nunchucks and games and it all adds up. With the ipod touch you just plug it into your ears and go. THe ipod is also cheaper to buy and run.
my choice is the ipod, but it's up to you.

I think they should make it so with smartphones you can have a big discount with a data plan and a lesser discount without.
I like the square back, the rounded back is kind of old.
