iPod touch The Next iPod Touch

Guys, the front facing camera CAN take pictures (idk about video). There is SO much STRONG evidence that there will be a front camera. And there most likely will be a back camera. I am thinking Steve pulled the camera at the last sec was for this update. He knew 2.0mp would not be enough, and he wanted this touch to be more groundbreaking, after all it may have it's own event. I think iOS4.1 will be released mid august, along with the next touch. Why? Because they announce the whole facetime with email thing. And they then say, on that note, you can do that on THIS iPod Touch!
The next iPod Touch will NOT be released before the end of the back-to-school promotion. If it is, I'll give you my iPad for free.

Actually, I don't think it's gonna happen either. Endgaget and Gizmodo haven't said anything about it, and they usually get invites two weeks before the event actually happens.
There's no way Apple would get this out before September. With the problems they're already having with the iPhone 4, I think they'd wanna stay on schedule.
Yeah they have to clean out their stock before they get the new one. Not really sure who'd buy one now with the new one coming out in a few weeks.
Well, most people don't realize that Apple updates their iPods, and assume that there all the same. Plus, its free when you buy a mac.
So true. I think we forget sometimes how hyper-aware we are of what Apple is up to, which generations are out, when refreshes come, etc. Jane and Joe Average have no clue about this stuff. Apple is still selling iPod touches as we speak. Not as many I'm sure, as a lot of people are really up on things, but plenty aren't.
I will take you on on that. And why would it not be? The back to school promotion DOES exclude new models.
With the problems they're having with iPhone 4... THAT DOESNT EVEN MAKE SENSE! Just because they're having a problem all smartphones have deal with, that does not mean that they can't sell iPod Touches not on schedule. They have different departments for the iPhone and iPod. So that argument you made just did not even make sense...
They're stock is probably all cleared out as it can be. Moving day is soon, and college kids have bought their laptops. And I don't really think the promotion really appeals to college kids, becauuse they wouldn't even buy a mac anyway. HP and Dell laptops are wayyy less expensive than macs. I know that's what turned my family off buying a mac laptop. (I guess the promotion does work for some people, but they probably have higher income.

Would Gizmodo even be invited? Or is apple the sort to forgive and forget?
No idea. I'm thinking since no new information has sprung up about something that was rumored to be less than a week away, that it's not going to happen.

I pretty much am just waiting to pull the trigger on a pair of new iPod touches as soon as they are released.
There seems to be a lack of logic in a lot of this speculation on the new Touch.
Look at Apple's history, they leave an older version of models every time they upgrade. For the Touch last time it was an 8GB model so I would suggest they'll create a 16gig 3rd gen to put with the 4th gen, which will have 32 and 64gig.
There were strong rumours of a camera in the last gen so I would strongly suggest they put a rear camera in, it would be little extra to put a front facer with support for facetime over wifi using email as the source instead of phone numbers. I just hope they put a great camera in this like the 4 and not the 3gs version, there is no logical reason not to, it would help take business away from camera manufacturers and could increase sales quite a margin. It isn't quite a deal breaker but would mean I could purchase a Touch and not need any other camera with me as well while travelling (unless I wanted an SLR).
As it is strongly linked as a games device expect the retina display and A4 chip clocked at the same as iPhone 4. Gyroscope is a definite as it is for gaming anyway, shown by the jenga that Jobs played when announcing the iPhone 4.
This will probably be out in September along with new styling to the rest of the ipod range, to freshen them up. I wonder if they'll do something with the classic as it will severely struggle to sell with a next gen Touch, there is no logical reason to purchase one at the moment. If they bring a 128gig Touch then they may as well scrap it completely, could they turn it into a form of external hard drive with ipod capabilities?

I didn't say rumors, I said information (news). As in... if there really was going to be an Apple announcement on Aug 16th, only 6 days from today, surely someone would have gotten word of it, an invite, something. I mean, leaks happen. I'm not saying it's impossible. I just think if a rumored event is only 6 days away, and there still isn't any further info on it other than the original rumor, then it's probably not going to happen.
But again, I hope I'm wrong. I WANT to hear about these new touches pretty badly. lol.
I think there will be a preview, maybe just not the 16th. Why not? It just gives people more reason to prepare to buy. And Apple probably has them made, they just need to make some more and package em and such.
I also bet Apple is itching to get their next latest and greatest thing out there to kind of push the iPhone stuff into the background, although that has died off quite a bit and isn't quite the firestorm is appeared to be a few weeks ago.
I agree. It has died down A LOT. And it seems like it started to once the free cases were announced. And I think after the point that Apple made about all smart phones having the "death grip" problem.

Yeah. A new batch of products, and a major new release in the iPod touch will be just thing thing to kick that final layer of dirt over Antennagate. lol
