Having said that the iPhone 3G is only 99 USD now that the iPhone 4 is out...
That's because the price is subsidized by AT&T. The component costs for it is somewhere between 170-180

Here is something that should be found interesting and used. please read (i posted this before, and it wasnt even used...
took the liberty of researching the component costs of iPhone 4 for you.
Post includes - Total price, Features we might see in the next iPod Touch, the cellular/unnecessary-for-the-touch items, flash memory/possibilities, the link to the teardown, and an outro.
In total - $187.50
Design (enclosure, hardware, metals, plastics, etc., not screen/glass) - $10.80
Glass - $10.00 (back? I don't know)
512mb of RAM - not listed
Display - $28.50
A4 chip - $10.70
5mp back camera - $9.75
VGA front camera - $1.00
Gyroscope - $2.60
3GS 3.2mp camera - $9.55 (note: technology has improved, so the cost is probably less now, taken from the 3GS teardown)
Total - $73.35
(what I beleive to be) all things phone and cellular
double data rate - $2.70
GSM/Edge transceiver - $2.33
GPS Chip - $1.75
Compass - $.70
Miscellaneous Connectivity components - $.80
Radio Frequency baseband - $11.72

In total - $28.25 (25 cents off from the display.)
Now on to flash memory. Using math I derived what the possible costs of different increments would be, using the 16gb price from the teardown.
8gb - $13.50
16gb - $27.00
32gb - $54.00
64gb - $108.00
128gb - $216.00

Please use these facts in your arguments and try to stay away from building on what you want/believe, and build on these facts.
I think it would be dumb of apple not to add in the 16gb again. if they add the camera people are going to need more space for their pics/vids. and these days apps are starting to get bigger compared to what they used to be. Who knows how big they'll end up gettin. I think they should replace the 8gb with the 16gb or like others have said lower the 8gb to $149 and put the 16gb at $199. I can see apple losing some sales because people wouldnt want to upgrade from an 8gb 1g/2g/3g ipod touch because they wont have enough space do to pictures, videos, and big apps.
And for those of you who say no mic on new ipod touch that would be dumb in my opinion because if there is a rear camera (very probable) they'd need a mic for video, or should have a mic for video. And if there is a front facing camera for facetime (could happen if there is a rear camera) there has to be a mic.

Because Apple has a tendency to leave the lower model as the last-gen iPod touch/iPhone. It happened when the 3GS came out, it happened when the iP4 came out, and it happened when the iPod touch G3 came out. It's probably gonna happen this year too.

Hey guys I'm one of the few people here who don't own any of the i-products and I'm looking forward to buy an Ipod touch 4g!!! I read somewhere that Apple would make this annual announcement not in September but on 14th- 16th August. So my question is has somebody got the same information or this is just another one of that fake rumors.. And another one - will the itouch 4 feature retina display ?

I heard this too and I'd be curious to see what other people think. Maybe it's an August announcement with a Sept release?

If they don't give it a retina display, it's going to be a little heartbreaking. After working on that iPhone 4 screen, everything else seriously looks like crap in comparison. Even working on my MacBook Pro, I find myself wishing things were as crisp as that iPhone 4 screen.

They cant get away with it this time. They only got away with it last year was because the upgrade from 2G to 3G was barely an upgrade at all.
They already got away with it. What about the 3GS and the iP4? They're both drastic changes...
Not as big? The 3GS was thick, had a sub-par camera, regular 320 x 480 screen, a standard contrast ratio, curved design, one microphone, crap battery, standard video recording, and an already fast processor, and the list can go on. And the iPhone 4 improved on all of these, and yet Apple still sells the 3GS along side the iP4. The iPod touch G3 has basically the same specs as the iPhone 3GS.
If anything, the iPod touch is the little brother that will follow in the same footsteps as the big brother has done.

Yah. Alot of people have. I guess its possible but i dont think they will especially because of the iPhone 4 only having a 3.5" screen.

Personally, i would much rather have a rear facing camera that i could take pictures with and maybe record video.

Well, because of what happened last year, I don't think they would pass up having a back-facing camera, because of all the complaints about it.
However, because of the leaked digitizers, I think a front-facing camera is also possible.
We might as well have the best of both worlds. xD
My opinion- apple puts only one camera let's say rear facing which will be 3.2 mp or 5 I'm not sure maybe shooting hd video (unlikely) and that's the end of the story with cameras! Just think about it 2 cameras, the iPhone 3gs hasn't got two cameras, the first apple device to have two is the Ip4 and putting 2 cams in itouch 4 will lead it just a little too close to the Iphone 4! Having in mind what Jobs said that they'll ship millions, billions or whatever it is, devices supporting facetime yes maybe they'll be just a front facing camera which will make the itouch 4 a "social device" or smthing like that.
In the end if you ask me I don't really care for none of the cameras! If it has a new design with the glassy thing or just smthing shiny and different and stuff like retina display, gyro and a4 processor maybe better wireless radio- it's fine, it's worth upgrading from itouch 3g to itouch 4- that's how apple are working- putting just enough for you to say- well it's new
