I think they also want to keep a line between the iPod and the iPad. I mean if they looked similar, the regular joe would just see the iPod as a more portable iPad, and just get the cheaper option.

Most people are not as tech-freak as we are in the forums, and if people don't care about specs, then they will get the cheaper option.
 
i dont think it will be strictly ipad or iphone look-alike. I think it will be ipod touch look alike. (but with no chrome back)

Yes i know. But a iPod Touch with the iPhone 4 design would be more difficult to distinguish over a iPod Touch with the iPad design. And i dont know about you but im going to see what an iPad is all about if i spend $500 plus on one.

What? dont buy an ipad? they are stupid, a waste of money! (atleast version 1 is, never buy a first time apple product)

I have. my friend has one and i test drove it. i thought, oh cool! but then though, wow. i would never waste 500+ on it. i mean, its just a big screen. spend less money, and you get 70% of the pixels (retina), two cameras, gyroscope, etc.

Its a larger screen... big whoop? ya, a large screen, so magical!
 
I gotta say, the iPad has zero appeal to me as well. Not saying it's worthless, because I'm sure for some people, it really hits the spot. But I like my computers (MacBook Pro and misc PCs), and I like my portable devices, but the iPod is in no-man's land in between somewhere. If I'm home, I'd always want to use my laptop. It can run real software. Like my music production software. Photoshop, etc. But it also does everything the iPad does, except, I can fold it up and keep the screen safe from harm.

Just not my thing.

My girlfriend's parents have one and I must say that it is better than an ipod touch, but it seems to be out of place if you are an owner of an ipod touch/iphone and a macbook pro. It is supposed to be halfway in between, but it fills no purpose when most of us have both.

Well said. That was my point, in that, for ME, it has no place. But for some it might be just what they need.

I can't do what I do on computers with an iPad. i.e. Music production, and photo and video editing. And the only thing about a laptop that's a downside is you can't carry it in your pocket. But an iPod touch or iPhone can be.

All needs fulfilled. I'd feel odd carrying around an iPad. There's also the constant paranoia, that I'm essentially carrying around a sheet of glass in some kind of shoulder bag, that could very well drop on something and still break. At least a laptop is close and can take a fall a little better.
 
Baaack to the topic guys!!! Can somebody actually tell me what he thinks the design will be? I mean like we talk "they want to keep a clear line between ip4 and ipod touch 4 and ipad...", just I don't know maybe someone share his/hers opinion. Will they stick to the dull design with these smooth edges chrome back etc. or will they do I don't know maybe something rougher? Personally I can say that the expectations are that there will be radical changes or am I wrong... :confused:

If they really liked the chrome, then it would be on the iPad... wouldnt it? I think theyve seen the error of their ways and now know that nobody likes chrome!

The ipad is not ment to replace a laptop!
 
I think we can expect to see the following for the new ipod touch:

Features

Retina Display - Yes! it may be expensive, but apple wants to make it the new standard. If some one sees how beautiful the screen is, that may alone, convincenthem of getting one.

Front Camera/Facetime - Yes! i know its been said around a google times, but apple wont sell 10 million iphones by december. Its just not gona happen, and unless some other apple product is being released in the upcoming conference, I think its about a 95% chance.

3G option - No! A 3G option on the ipod touch would COMPLETELY ruin the point of an iphone.

A4 chip - Yes! if that tiny thing isnt in the new ipod, then im a flying gorilla. most new apps are now geared towards the iphones's processor. I dont think theres any going back now for apple.

GPS - No! next to useless without 3G. Not gona happen

Colors - No! White is a mabey, but other than that, its just plain old black.

Compass - No! not beneficial to apple in any way, a compas is neither useful, nor even a minor marketing point

Rear camera - Yes! This is a MUST for facetime, im not gona go into megapixel predictions, but im convinced that there will be both cameras on the new ipod.

Gyroscope - Yes! Waaaay too cheap and useful to not be included.

Alumininum back - No! Chrome may be scratchable, but its a mark of theipod line. I think that the classic is gona end pretty soon here, and that only leaves the touch with chrome. If you take care of it, its actually pretty nice looking.

New design - Yes! the curved back on the 2g and 3g pisses me off and is part of the reason i still have myv1g after all thid time. The ipod touch is long overdue for a makeover

I hope apple makes a 16gb and makes it 4g because they've only left behind one generation and that was when there was barely any change. They have to upgrade all ipod touches to the newest features no matter the size of the ipod touch. If they do not they would be very stupid in my opinion.

No they don't HAVE to make them all the same. The iPhone got the 3GS as a baseline so they could do the same to the iPod Touch. I know I want them to put a 4g as the baseline, but I'm not sure. I'm hoping for a bring down in price, so that they could have the 4g as $249 and $349.

Agreed, it's time for a redesign. Retina would be great.
 
I think that we all have to agree that retina would be nice still is there someone who is like 90% sure that they'll put it because with apple you never know huh :D...

Some GPS apps use both GPS and 3G for data. One example is MotionX GPS Drive. Which also happens to be only $1, and is a kick-ass GPS app.
