Check that out guys http://techpinger.com/2010/08/upcom...oasts-to-have-dual-camera-and-retina-display/ I'm not talking about the pic it's 100% fake, but look what the second paragraph says....
"He also mentioned that next generation iPod Touch will be available in few weeks for purchasing. It has been reported earlier that Apple is Scheduling an event in Mid- August to for iPod Touch 4 announcements."

I started a thread on this, and it seems like the date is september. Also, how is there a curved back and a camera? It will be a tight squeeze if its true.

I wanted to buy an iPod Touch, maybe I should wait a month or two to avoid disappointment for a little while longer.. =D

Chrome sells to the mass population

Joe average - "oooh shiny and :apple: logo = want!"

Me and you and other forum dwellers - "not chrome again! aah well :apple: Logo, = want"

Apple products sell
Its funny because its true! ;)
I hope apple makes a 16gb and makes it 4g because they've only left behind one generation and that was when there was barely any change. They have to upgrade all ipod touches to the newest features no matter the size of the ipod touch. If they do not they would be very stupid in my opinion.
They cant make it a full 4G, the components are too expensive. Heres what i think will happen with the baseline: 3G, with a redisign, 16GB, (a) camera(s). They cant leave us with a 3G for the baseline. (I know, i know, the 3GS for the iPhone 4 baseline.) If they want to keep the 3G as the baseline and have the 4G's be up at $299+, then they'll lose alot of customers.... Including me. :gasp!:

Apple needs to realize that a ton of their customers are kids and teens (like me), and they need to market a 3G touch with some of the new features of what a 4G at the same $199 price.

I think they can do that. But not ALL of the features, it gets too expensive.

I think as long as they implement a front camera to facilitate FaceTime, I'll be satisfied. Then my wife can get the base model and we'll still be able to FaceTime.

Unfortunately, I think you're right. And it does hurt. :(
Maaaybe I have to admit :D sept is the month the problem is that it'll be shipped here in Bulgaria like month after the official release in USA!! Well that hurts I so hopped i could get it around my b-day :S

I'm as hurt as the next person. My wild mind occasionally asks myself "what if you just bought the 3rd gen now, kept it for just under 30 days, until the announcement, then returned it, and got the new one". Now that's desperate and crazy thinking. Gotta hunker down. It's gonna be a long 4 weeks.

No they don't HAVE to make them all the same. The iPhone got the 3GS as a baseline so they could do the same to the iPod Touch. I know I want them to put a 4g as the baseline, but I'm not sure. I'm hoping for a bring down in price, so that they could have the 4g as $249 and $349.

I think they should do that and i see how they can't make a 4g the baseline even though it a great idea.

16gb 3g-$199
32gb 4g-$249
64gb 4g-$349

That works in my opinion because a 16gb jump is $50 and a 32gb jump is
$100. But i think they may have to make the 32gb a little more expensive so it may come out in between $249 and $299. and they have to keep the 64gb and 32gb at least $100 dollars apart so whatever they do to the pricing of the 32gb they cannot have the 64gb within $100 of it. so i think

16gb 3g-$199
32gb 4g-$269
64gb 4g-$399

I think your right. they can make a 16gb 3g and leave it as is because from a buisness standpoint that ok but from a logical standpoint they at least need to give it a camera or two. they should've given one last time but there was a defect so. now would be the best time.

Assuming the (new) 3G gets an updated look, what about all of their old non updated 3G's? Or do they just dismantle them and reuse the parts?

On a side note, I personally think it would be hilarious if Jobs says the ipod doesn't need cameras again this year. :D

Okey, guys, I know I'm dumb much but I don't get it so they leave ipod 3g as 16 gb and so if you want to buy the chepest ipod touch 4g it will be 32 gb which is 269$, right ?!

What I got out of the discussion is that Apple may give out the 3G ipod at the lowest price. If you want an actual 4G, then you must pay the extra and it will have a higher GB too.

Yeah, or they could lower the price of the base model. So...

8gb/16gb 3g-$149
32gb 4g- $249
64gb 4g- $349

It doesn't have to be August 16 or 17. It could be later this month, like August 23 or so. I dunno, I'm just being hopeful because I want it as early as possible.

I would love an ipod touch with GPS, but why would it be useless without 3g?
Wouldn't it have regular GPS features? (not useless)

it wouldnt be entirely useless... the problem is, most gps apps use 3g to fetch data as well as a satelite signal. I just dont see it happening unless ipod touch gets a 3g version

Also, i think that
3g 8gb 149.99
4g 16/32gb 249.99
ect.

is probably whats gona happen. Apple seems to ask less money each year for the base (previous gen) model and i think that 16gb 3g is unlikely since it was never put up for sale. 249.99 seems the perfect price for a 16gb model.

I don't see GPS happening either; it's just too unlikely because of the 3G issue.

I don't agree with your pricing. My lineup vote:
3G 16GB $199
4G 32GB $299
4G 64GB $399

I don't think it would be very hard to exchange a 32GB chip for a 16GB one, as far as the 3G goes; thus, I don't think the fact that the 16GB never went on sale will stop Apple.

Yep, I hope it'll be the end of this month or so... maybe next week :D

Yes they do.
How so? Your list, when taking in plausible items like the 3GS camera and 32 GB comes only to about $140 or so. That still leaves plenty of room for profit.
Yes it does, but they still have to account for the workers, and the shipping, and so on. However ridiculous it is, they will probably want to maintain a higher profit than that. But i dont think they should need to, especially since they make like $300+ per iPhone 4.
