iPod touch The Next iPod Touch

The current audio quality is acceptable, while its not as good as my laptop or a sony walkman, its still good.

Sony used to have their own system for encoding audio, it took up less space than MP3's and was of a higher quality, but for some reason it never caught on.

If that system had caught on it would be great.

Ive found however that by using a descent set of headphones, - sennhiesser or sony or bose. that the sound is good.

I currently have a Clix 2. Sound is way better than Ipod nano however I want to upgrade to Ipod touch.But if the audio is not comparable then it pointless upgrading to touch.I have sony mdr ex 500.

Does anyone have a Iriver Clix2 and a ipod touch? a comparison of audio quality would be much appreciated.

I assume you were refering to the ATRAC format. Thing is you must convert the mp3 to ATRAC and quality in the process.

Snap on the headphones.

Trust me, the sound quality is not massively different, you wont notice it really. the only time i really use my headphones to their full potential, is when im working a show (sound tech here) and even then,

Are there any rumours as to what the specs will be for the iphone 5 (ipod touch 5)?

If it is not a massive update then I will buy an ipod touch.Are there any ways to avoid the itunes ****? like on ubuntu or other OS

Based on previous generations, do you think the new ipod touch will sport metal and glas?

People will ALWAYS be disappointed. It is almost impossible for everyone to not be. The main idea is to be happy with what you get, but go into this knowing that not everything is a sure thing.

No Sony used a different file format. instead of tunes being in an mp3 format, it was something else, it retained more quality (wav quality), and yet was of a smaller size, take an average 4 minute song in mp3 format, and that's 4mb or so.

put it into Sonys format and it was about 1mb, it was a massive difference and the quality was huge. unfortunately it never caught on.

What are the chances of the new ipod touch having the FLAC codec? It is a codec with a "bright future like HTML5".

I may have misspoke. I meant to say that AAC is similar in concept to the format which you described. But geez... 4 mb down to 1 mb is quite a bit. We need more mathematicians who do encoding stuff!:D

Exactly, we need more quality in smaller file sizes!!
 
I totally can't wait any more... Why doesn't the ipod touch 4 come out yet... So hope it comes out sooner and by the way, approximately how long after the announcement they start selling it ?
 
I think that new rumor of September 15-16 for the iPod event is more acceptable, though I can also see it coming earlier than that. I think this is the most anticipated Apple iPod event yet.

Its like living in the UK

You get the price of an apple product in USD. then convert it to GBP, then add tax

even after that, apple have decided that that doesn't cost enough, and add another 8% or so onto products

Thats funny.Considering the fact that the next ipod 5G will run on 1.5 Ghz,you will be forced to purchase a new ipod touch to have iOS 5.
